GIBBS oil is what I've used on my vintage magnesium wheels for years. It's the only oil that doesn't leave a sticky, oily residue behind. Even better, you can totally paint over metal that's had Gibbs oil on it. it is paintable!! I was blown away when I learned this. I love me some bare metal and I love good patina. I have a '40 Willys coupe with its original finish (combination of its original paint, red oxide prime, bare metal). It needs a little bit of metal work in some areas but after that's done, my plan is to simply apply Gibbs oil to the entire car. Truly amazing stuff! And if down the road I ever decide to paint the car, its NOT a problem!
The 40 is one of My favorite body styles of all time fore Me. Look's great stock & modded. Car would be perfect IMO only with a blown Flathead. The 327 is cool though. Not one of those Guy's who is going to tell someone else how to have there ride. Flathead's Forever. 🤟😎
watching from Katy Tx. My 92 year old grandfather was a street rod guy and passed away last year. He left me a 41 Merc and a 48 Fleetline. They both have Mustang II with 350 and Ford 9 bolts. Would love to have you slam the Merc like your 40.
no, the curves of the body are too nice to be hidden behind paint . just polish up the bare metal and clear coat it. it would be STUNNING.@@Theoldironworkshop
327 are great engine's I'm surprised yours is breaking down every time you drive yours. I put a 327 engine in my 1972 GMC SUBURBAN and it puuurs like a cat I drove that ride on a daily never left me stranded.
This car might have a curse on it. Rumor has it the car was in storage for about 25 years. Previous owner had passed away and then it was sold at and estate sale. Then that owner had it and passed away and it sat for about 20 years. And then again sold at an estate sale. Now I have the car so it might have a little bit of bad mojo on it.
@@Theoldironworkshop ooo yup it may have, you'll get it figured out. Car is killer looking though for a daily driver I'm shire your always getting people asking about it. 👍🏽
Hi loving ur channel need to get some louvres punched on a 1937 Chevy 2dr sedan hood would u be willing to do something like that there is no one that does it in my neck of the woods any assistance would be greatly appreciated thanks and keep the great videos coming. Ps loved the Nash chop.
I’m working on the rest of the yellow. Planning on pinstripes and clearing it. And that’s how it will stay for at least a while. I would like to pull the motor and rebuild it. But I need to get my 46 back on the road first.
Thanks for the oil tip. No offence , but what about just hitting it with rattle can metal primer ? I Do like the idea of keeping leaners off the car..he he. Yep.. Growing up in the 50s and 60s I saw a lot of hot rods with louvers. As I've aged I've always wondered why it was so popular and common . I wonder if many High School metal shops had louver punchers and that was an influence. ? Stupid question... do you have body protection points to rest the body/frame on when you let the suspension down ? Nice 40... I've always thought the 40/39 coupe as one of the best body styles ever made .
Oh. Pumps are pretty standard. I have one pump and a 3 gallon tank with sleeved bags in the rear and small bags in the front. Contact Jimenez brothers in Riverside California. They specialize in this stuff they’ll set you right
@@Theoldironworkshop awesome man, thank you, i paint cars, been doing it for 23 years, never learned suspension work... Wouldnt have even known where to start until i saw your car, its exactly what i was going for. Appreciate you man!
When the next thing you see after the car is a homemade louvre punch… I was thinking YIKES! Poor car… usually car guys know better than to give in to fads and alterations that are permanent. In 10 yrs, when ppl not only don’t want louvres, but actually dislike them, this guy will learn an expensive lesson. But that’s my opinion, if he enjoys, drives the wheels off it, and sells it in two years, he probably gets more enjoyment out of it than someone who would buy it and struggle to preserve it. Que up the ole’ hot rodders vs street rodders debate! That being said, well done. Louvres are not my thing, but the guy certainly seems to do quality work.

Love the paint job, those yellow lines in the engine compartment are perfect
Yeah, I’ve been slowly getting rid of the yellow. I think I’m gonna paint it this winter.

Yeah Bellos does some nice chops pretty good metal shaper. Fun to watch.
Some people use boiled linseed with paint thinner as a sealer for bare metal
I’m using Gibbs oil.
Had one back in the sixties , small block Chevy .fun car . should have kept it of course .😏
Like all of them.
Beautiful car

It has a Mustang ii and a ride
hot hod estilo de vida , ótimo!
Loved the 40 Ford but sure you were brow beaten by the purist re the 327, LOL
Meh. This thing had a small block Chevy in it longer than I’ve been alive.
Why would you want to pull out Bucket Seats and put in a Bench ?
I would put a Ford motor in it maybe a 351 w..
thanks!
