      I see. So you prefer the boxer engine. I do not do off-road riding. So, would you recommend a BMW R nine T ? I am looking for an upright seating position. I am considering the Yamaha XSR 900. For some reason, this bike does not look so good.

    Good looking bike. BMW has to make the best TFT display in the business. Wondering. Would adding height to the saddle, to get a bit more leg room, affect the sweet spot in the feeling of it being balanced.
    I asked about your riding jeans. You responded thank you. Now how about this gear you’re wearing here
    Looks great. Brand and model. Boots and gloves too. Maybe a video of your favorite gear. Comfort and safety. Thank you. Always great content NTP! Ride safe and ride often.

    Great review and video. Thank you! I do understand the practicality of needing more pressure to downshift. I accidentally downshifted at high speed on my r1200r lc. Did jolt and scare me a bit. Perhaps an alternative to my current bike for those weekend jaunts outside of Berlin. Keep up the great work!

    Thanks for showing us this new bike from BMW. I have to say that the harmony between the white dominant color and the adjacent colors on the other parts of the bike it really impressed me. Usually, I don’t prefer the white color on bikes but in this case I think, I could open an exception. The TFT dashboard with all that info is an improvement which is very nice to have, and way better than the display that Yamaha installed in the tracer GT, By far. For a normal day to day utilization this torque empowered engines make every sense.
    From this video, we can also feel, that the bike is very well balanced, and in terms of security and longevity it matters a lot. Just can’t say, if in the price range, it is competitive as well comparing with the Yamaha Tracer 9 GT, but at the same time BMW has that premium quality touch, and when you get one, you can confirm it, like the heated grips that are offered from scratch in most majority of this bikes. I don’t understand why Yamaha and other brands don’t catch up with that - just to give an exemple. Also the manual adjustment of the wind shield is superior when compared with the one we can see on the tracer 9 GT. Little important things that gives you the sensation of the built construction quality of the machine.

    Nice, I didn't know they were going for low down torque with this one. And even though I'm more into classic styling the insectoid / termite look of this motorcycle really gets me. All in all it's good to have another review from you - especially since my drive to ride (traditionally) re-awakens in February. And as always: Tanks for your great content!

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Tsugumo,
      The low down torque is the main reason I directly compared it to the 900 Tracer, so show that this bike you can be at half the RPM as the Tracer and have the same amount of torque, now that is real world usable torque. Because let's be honest, how many of us actually rev a motor to more than 8k on the street, I mean it does happen but rarely...at least for me.

    Hey Scott! Another great review, Sir. I like the notion of this bike in that it's a nice option for those that don't want to contend with the full-on XR from either a size or cost perspective. I think this bike will compete well with the Yamaha Tracer GT. I have to say though that I am not the biggest fan of parallel twins. There is nothing wrong with them, I just like the triple more. It would be a fun shootout anyway!

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Dennis.
      Yea, I've never really been a fan of parallel twins either, and still would prefer a V-Twin over them any day. But they have come a long way in the last few years. The first parallel twin I'd consider buying is the Speed Twin (1200) but now I'd have to add this bike to the list of parallel twins that I'd actually own. It is that good. I was surprised. I just love the low down torque.

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      "QS smooth in low RPM", well it feels like the traditional Boxer QS, when you shift, you know it and it takes quite a bit of input to shift. At low RPM's and under normal "city traffic" acceleration I preferred to use the clutch, I could do it smoother than the QS. BUT I attribute this to the fact that this bike had 0 km on it when I took it out, so a little break in period will probably help the QS. I'll put a few miles on it for the "long term review" next week and see if the "cluncky-ness" improves over time.

I'm currently riding a 2018 Street Triple R and I haven't found much I don't love about the bike except.....I'm getting to be an older gent these days. A couple hours of spirited rides on the Triple provides a bit of a challenge at this stage. Not a lot but certainly noticable. I've been entertaining something that might split the difference between fairly aggressive and a tad more forgiving. Since you've reviewed both the Street and this bike could you see someone, who loves his Triple, migrate to the F900XR (for a slightly more forgiving ride) and not wind up disappointed? Thanks.

    • @NothingToProve

      Well, the RT is for experienced riders, it will slow your progress of learning riding skills if you are still in the process, simply because of it's weight and size. The RT would be a great 3 or 4th bike imho. For me, it was actually my 8th bike and I love it, after 1 year on of owning the RT, I still say "I'll never sell this bike". I mean sure, I'll get a second or third bike and they will come and go but the RT I will keep. It does everything and everything very, very well.

      Thank you Ivan,
      I'm 178cm tall and I have no problems with flat footing it and I have the 20mm higher comfort seat on the bike, making it 840mm high instead of the standard 820mm. And no, it does not feel heavy for a middleweight sport touring bike, it actually feels light to me and that is why I bought it. And regarding the "starting problems", I have been on 3 different 900XR bikes and have just pressed the start button and they start, each time, every time, btw, one should never twist the throttle on a fuel injected bike to get it started, that was kind of "normal" for a carbureted bike many, many years ago.
      Now I have over 10,000 km on my 900XR and have never had any of the problems you mention above. I think what you are seeing is that this is youtube and anyone can post a comment without us knowing their qualifications/experience level on a subject matter, also if the bike has been maintained properly according to the OEM. I won't go into my experience, because one can see how many different bikes I ride per year and my experience speaks for me, I don't have to 👍😁

I like this bike a lot,however, same as the fj09, the footpeeg position is a little too back,more like a sport touring position, me think the Yamaha is even more compact and back, and I got used to the bmw gs, so for me the f850 gsa is perfect ergonomically speaking.

    hi just subbed to the channel after watching for weeks mainly because I like the relaxed manner in which you present. I took one of theses for a test ride today. It was enjoyable I had to get used to the mid mounted controls and the blinkers not auto cancelling and both on the left side. It was enjoyable and is most likely to be the next bike. Currently ride a Harley Sport Glide.The engineerings of this were impressive. Have you tried it on dirt roads? If so how does it perform?

      No, I have not taken this off pavement as of yet, simply because I've been limited in my riding (Corona) and the tires are Sport touring tires, which are terrible off pavement. But with the 170mm of travel it should be ok on some lite trail riding.

    It's a very nice looking bike. I'm sure it's comfortable and relaxing and makes for great touring. It's just that, from what I've seen, it lacks excitement. I mean, so what if you can pull out of bends at 2000 rpm, if you can't get that little pulse of adrenalin when you want it? So far, I'm still in favour of the Tracer 900 over this.

    Always a really good review. What is your take on wind management off the windscreen settings? Thanks!!

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi David, thank you.
      First of all BMW worked on wind mgt. for this bike and I didn't know this till I took it back to the dealership that day and I said to the BMW guys "wow I was really impressed with how protected I was from the wind" and they said "good that was one focal point to the faring and wind screen", minimal size but maximize wind protection. This is why in the review footage I was riding in near freezing temps but the wind screen was in the low position. I didn't feel the need to put it in the up position. Next week, I'll take it out on the autobahn and do 200 kph and see what it's really like at high speeds. So wait for me to do the "long term review" and then you'll really get my verdict on the wind mgt.
      Take care,

    Would you/could you take off-road with different tires? I like the sound do they offer Akropovic? I like the white with the soft pannier option. Last question: I’m 6’3” 235 do I need to stick with the larger GS?

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      As with any bike (except cruisers/tours) you can change the tires and go off-road. But the question becomes how good will the bike be in off-road conditions. I don't think I'd take this off-road.
      6'3" is pretty tall for any middleweight bike. But I think you can do it with the optional high seat, @ 870mm / 34.25".

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      105 = ps (pferdestärke)
      99 = hp (horse power)
      They are the same thing, just a different way to measure power. PS is from the German language using the metric system. So whenever you see 105 it's PS and anything less will be in HP.
      Metric vs. Imperial system...that is all.

      LOL! Yea, white vans...I usually cut them totally out of my videos but this one actually served a purpose, make me go slow, so I went over slow speed manners of the bike...lemons....Limonade.
      Quickshifter: well, I was not impressed with this quickshifter at all. But I attribute that to me being the first one to literally ride this bike. So I will hold my normal criticism for the quickshifter for the long term review. But going up from 1st to 2nd and 3rd was normal for a BMW q-shifter, just going down was where I'm holding back...a lot (I got a few false neutrals & I only showed one in the video - because it really screwed up my corner entrance & apex) so I'll save that for the long term review if it doesn't get any better.

      Hello. Yes, I still love my 900XR! 9,000km on the clock and no problems as of yet and I really beat it hard on my 3,600km Alps trip. I was actually trying to break something on it so that I could make a video about it but nope, it just took what I threw at it and laughed and said "is that all you got?"
      I have not ridden the 950S as of yet, and I've tried on several occasions to do so but the Ducati dealer has his nose too high in the air to let me make a video about it. So I purchased the 900XR and I've never looked back...actually smirking at the 950S...in that the cost & maintenance is so much more. So far the only cost is the first service 150 and the cost of new tires. That's it. Love it. I would buy it again today.

    I look to this model whith some interest, viewing the low rev torque, the relative low weight , a sound looking like Ducati, and a style not too much looking to "transformer from space" . How do you score BMW F750 GS and F850 GS facing to this machine in terms of riding pleasure at normal pace at tarmac roads?

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I would take the XR over them. More power, more comfort and better on the street, whereas the GS's are made to do both on and off-road and this is their down fall for only road riding and that is why the XR is better on the road than the 750/850 GS. (and it looks better too! :)

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea, you have to remember that a 360 camera splits the resolution between two lenses, so the Insta360 One X that I have records in 5.7k @ 30fps but then you have to split that to a little less than half that resolution when viewing in a normal one lens mode. I believe to get true 4k out of a 360 camera, it'd have to record in well over 8k. And that tech is just not there yet for us consumers. If I shot all my reviews in 1080p you probably not notice a difference but since I do shoot my GoPros in 4k then it is noticeable in the video when I switch to the 360 camera and it drops below 4k. :(
      This was my first video using 360 footage. Now I have a question for you, do you think it adds to the video or does it take away from it?

    Scott keith hereIsn’t the 900 XR the one you were going to buy i’m looking at the R model I’m still concerned about the weight and also I heard in the states the horse power was reduced to 99. It sounds like BMWIs trying to compete with the street triple in the 790 duke however the 890 Duke I hear it’s going to blow them all away but I haven’t seen any real first rides on that yet patiently waiting do you think it’s worth the wait

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, this is the bike I ordered and will get a red one in April. I don't think BMW is trying to compete with the 790/765 high performance middleweight naked machines with the F900R, they are going more for the middle performance customer that wants more quality/fit & finish/refinement and relaxed riding position than those two I named above and I think they've hit the mark with the 900R.
      If you want more power & performance then wait for the 890, it will deliver, at least according to the specs but before I say anything else, I need to ride it 😁
