Today we're digging deeper into the Carcosa, this time looking at the splattier side. The Carcosa has two controls for biasing its transistors, and together they can yield some extremely textural results. The Before and After knobs bias the transistors in different parts of the circuit, with the Before knob focusing on the front of the pedal and the After knob in the back. By turning these knobs, you stack the transistor biases. Keeping both knobs past noon biases the circuit twice, making for some supremely splatty fuzz tones. Ultimately, the After control has the most control over the raspiness. Everything from slight compression to vice-crushed square wave fuzz is possible and the Demhe and Hali modes allow you to match this versatile fuzz to your rig.
this has to be one of the most multi dimensional fuzzes you guys have reviewed. im gonna pick this up when i get my cr120
Loved hearing Think For Yourself! Great song, great pedal, great demo.
Mr Andy has given us the overall functionality of this little unit. He never over plays anything so that we hear exactly which tonality we're hearing and how to achieve that tone. He's the perfect restraint player for demos of all kind. Thanks for this 3 part demo. It’s taught me how to actually use the Carcosa without becoming frustrated.👍👍
Thanks so much, I'm so glad the videos were helpful! Just a note, Tom from Spiral Electric FX who designed this pedal has a newer version based on the Demhe mode. You might enjoy that one too!
Andy
That Beatles cover was killer.
Been really impressed with this fuzz so far. Seems about as nice as anything for a great price.
That tone at 4:25 is SO GOOD! Holy sh*t!
4:26 - IMO this tone is actually closer to Electric Wizard's Dopethrone tone than the EW cover Andy did in part 2. It's raunchy and nasty sounding like an FZ-2 here whereas the other tone was just down-tuned fuzz. Don't get me wrong, Andy's EW cover was spot-on enough and certainly sounded good.
Thumbs UP for this video just for the awesome intro.
Think For Yourself! Rubber Soul! YES!!
Strato Fever I'm sorry, but what song is that in the intro?
Think for yourself... from the Beatles album rubber soul.
Strato Fever Oh haha oops someone in the comments said 'revolver' and I got confused. Thanks!
Greatly enjoying the Beatles love at the moment!!
Sick Beatles intro,
Paul McCartney was such a brilliant composer on bass.
You just realised that ?
no one else will ever hear with my ears but the beatles tune at the beginning kinda reminded me of some GhostAD
What is the song at 4:25? It’s killer.
Crazy - was listening to Revolver on the plane 2nite flying home.
But the track is from rubber soul
Crazy - was listening to Queens of The Stone Age on the pavement walking home ! :-p
Did you make it?
Would love to hear someone do a guitar or bass cover of Big Data's "Dangerous" with this pedal...I'm hearing that song in my head with this pedal's tone.....
Man, has any other pedal ever gotten 3 videos from you guys before? You really like this pedal, huh?
Yeah, kinda weird. I've never been impressed by it..
I was thinking the same thing. Loved the "Funeralopolis" cover in the 2nd vid.
At the moment this pedal's sold exclusively by Pro Guitar Shop. I'd assume they've got some form of sponsorship DOD/Digitech to continuously promote their product. Doesn't hurt that their products are killer either.
The Earthquaker Palisades got 3 videos. That's the only other one I can think of, though this is definitely a waaayyy simpler pedal than the Palisades.
I think it's mainly to show how to get the maximum number of tones out of it... I have one, and I've been coming back to these three videos for almost a year to dial in different sounds when I need to. These are hands down the best demos of the pedal on the internet
the filth is stong in this one
Wow this pedal... Made from unobtainium. Giving me bad gas. What is the song at 4:30?
Anyone else having a hard time finding this pedal online? No one sells it on ebay, apparently. Seems only PGS sells it.
It's a PGS exclusive, that's why they've done 3 videos on it.
That explains it. Thank you.
think it's better than a big muff?
Way better. I have the Big Muff and I always get lost in the mix when I use it. This won't happen with the Carcosa.
Try a boost after the fuzz. Might help with the muffs not cutting through?
FUZZ! Grrrrrrrrrrr
Anyone know how this pedal interacts with the guitar's volume knob? Is it possible to clean up the sound by lowering the guitar's volume?
Yes, when you have the After control set fairly low you can get great clean-up.
Thank you for the answer!
Ok it's took 4 years but I'm now ready for splatty fuzz😁 so I bought one. Cheaper than the Wampler velvet fuzz
Yesh... is this really a DOD pedal? My DODs never were super great
west price It's impressive mine neither but somehow the new digitech pedals are really something else. I'm stocked everytime if try something like the polara or the robo... something. Try them if you can.
They made a load of amazing cult pedals as well as some total shit. The main great pedals are in the new range such as the Gonkulator, OD and Envelope Filter. DOD have really become amazing over the last few years with some great new pedals and remakes. This is perhaps the pick of them all though. So nice
Andy > Paul
Are you talking about Paul from Guitar world? If so, I don't think there is anybody world that disagrees with you. haha
Paul McCartney, maybe? Cuz he played a Beatles song.
True, but this is George Harrison's song.
Think For Yourself.
For a slothier demo of this pedal, you can watch Slothy McSlothlin demo it here: th-cam.com/video/U4xZZyNPe28/w-d-xo.html
George Harrison was the best Beatle.
the germanium od/distortion big muff is awesomeer
I have both. I would disagree. The Carcoza is much more versatile.
Love your work Andy . But that tone got old real fast .
love your vids but your amazing playing outshines the product your reviewing so I generally don't want to trust my opinion as a buyer based on them...... jus sayin
