Welcome back to ProGuitarShop.com, where Andy shows you how to get Fat Fuzz settings with the DOD Carcosa. The fatness of the Carcosa's low end is immense, yet musical at the same time. The Carcosa contains more transistors than the average fuzz pedal, so its gain structure is quite refined when cranking the Carcosa's Before control. The Hi-Cut knob helps dial in the fatter tones by skimming off any excess treble content generated by the gain stages. Liberal use of the Before and Hi-Cut controls turns the Carcosa a full-frequency fuzz monster on either Demhe or Hali modes. The more you crank both knobs, the more the Carcosa delivers a singing, musical fuzz tone that sustains indefinitely. This super-fat tone is great for rhythm players who need tightness when playing chords, as well as those using drop-tunings or baritone guitars. Bass players can also take heed, as the Carcosa leaves your low-end intact with no need for a mix control. Lead players can also use the Carcosa with these settings, taking advantage of the viscous sustain and using it as the base tone for solos when a lesser fuzz just won't do.

Absolutely, the "before" and "after" along with the toggle switch give a big variety of sounds. Lots of headroom too.

This sounds great, you should get it if you want it. However…
If you want a different option and want to NAIL the Dopethrone sound, the Behringer SF300 is an excellent option. Setting 2 IS that sound. I’d be seriously surprised if Jus wasn’t using this circuit.
I know they’re ridiculously cheap and that turns some people off, but it’s a hidden gem.
I have one on my board while literally thousands of dollars of more expensive pedals sit in a box next to my recording rig.

He WAS in fact using that exact circuit... a Boss Hyper Fuzz. And the Behringer Super Fuzz is a clone of the Hyper Fuzz, of course. Good ear bro 👍 Check out the Pepers Pedals Humongous Fuzz if you haven't already...Hyper Fuzz with the "secret setting" as an actual setting, clean blend, and a HM2 blend...it's brutal af
This is one of those "if I was stuck on and island and could have only one pedal" contenders. The before and after puts it on the spectrum with a distortion and a velcro fuzz and any combo of the 2. The output knob makes it into a very powerful, translucent overdrive. The hicut control makes it play well with everything, unlike many pedals that have a very narrow tone control that doesn't play well with everything. The hicut also helps me take a strat and put it into a territory where it fills a mix like a humbucker while still sounding like a strat. I mean, most pieces of gear only have a couple good sounds, even if they have a lot of knobs, or the parameters are very small so it's a similar sound no matter what you try to do with it. This pedal can do so many things that are record quality, I mean you can set the knobs randomly, plug it in, and you get a sound that would be excellent for something.

The first sold me on the pedal and it's exactly as it's portrayed here. Have your amp set with some dirt and kick the pedal on and you have dopethrone, sleep, etc.

The DOD Carcosa is based on the circuit from the '70s version of the old Maestro FZ-1S Fuzz-Tone. The DOD is more versatile as it offers much more control over the sound.

It’s cheap but it has a spot on my board while MXR, Electro Harmonix, and many other pedals languish in a box under my desk. Thousands of dollars worth of pedals.

been looking at this as a cheaper alternative to the blackhawk amps valhalla, basilisk or balrog. all the other carcosa vids i watched didnt really make me wanna buy it, but then I heard those electrix wizard tones, and my decision just got a lot trickier. would love to hear you cover high on fire - carcosa with this pedal.

Jim Slade Lol yeah...Confession: I ended up buying it because of that. Should be arriving today I think. I got the coupon in their e-mail. I think if you sign up for their e-mail newsletter you can get regular updates on things like that.
Yeah that Pharaoh sounds pretty hardcore too and has a lot of options. For me this is my first fuzz pedal actually even though I've been playing for decades. Have a ton of od's and dist. I figured this would be a good option to get my foot wet in the fuzz.

The Baritone double cut is an Eastwood Sidejack. The black single cut/LP is a Hagstrom Super Swede.
