    Working under the dash can be really challenging. I've been upside down with fanny on the car seat, feet up over the seatback and my head and shoulders on the floor under the steering column. Lots of fun, particularly with bifocal glasses. You're amazingly upbeat doing this. 🙃

      I had to replace the brake booster in a 1996 Corvette. You have to take the seat out, lay in the floor, and put your feet up into the hatch. Once you do that, you're wedged into the basically shoulder width floorboard, because you have the transmission tunnel against your left shoulder and the frame rail against the right. Then you have to lean your head back to see the nuts you need to get to, and reach backwards over your head to get to them. That's not even including the steering column and all various other things that are in your way, or the plastic keeper clip for the floor mat digging into your back. Then when you're done, you have to figure out how to throw your legs out the door while twisting your rear end up and over the frame rail/door sill so you can climb out. It was not a lot of fun, lol.

    Brake pedal pivot pin. I vaguely remember it from my soft trim days. It had a torque setting because of that miserable plastic bushing. Too cheap to use a bronze bushing and a grease joint. GM engineering, save .0001 cents a job on each part, and you've saved .35 cents per job! Thanks GM for saving .50 cents on my head gasket. It cost thousands later. Love ya Ray! Great videos! Enjoy your videos, Ray. Way better than what's on the boob-tub. That being said, you should have read the instructions for the K&N filter cleaning. Compressed air can blow holes through the cotton media, compromising the filtration effectiveness. After cleaning, that filter should be allowed to air only dry before the re-lube process.

    Great video - I have a 2003 Suburban. For safety measures make sure to check the brake lines under the car. They are notorious for rusting out. I was towing a boat from FL to NJ and got home late in the night. Next morning on the driveway under the drivers seat was a large puddle of fluid. Both lines where they enter the balancing value where rust through and leaked - the truck lost all of it's brake fluid. To this day I thank goodness the lines didn't blow out while towing at 75mph.

While I had the front of the accessory off I am doing knock sensors too. Negligible performance gain but cheaper than dry OEM filters if you ran 100k+ miles on them. Excluding the MAF faults I had to deal with I only saw them as a plus with my carbureted Harleys. I stick with dry filters now as everything is injected.

    Pro tip: Find some spare bolt lying around...all shops collect them. One approximately the same diameter as the shaft bolt. Insert it into the opposite side of where the shaft bolt inserts. In the case of this truck, on the left. Then insert the shaft bolt, and let it push the spare bolt out as you reinstall it.

      I live in the rust belt and haven't seen a brake pedal rust like that. The rust seems to only be on some components like they came from a different vehicle.

      They may be moisture in area around pedals. Windshield could be leaking.

      You guys are driving me nuts when you literally think the rust belt has anything to do with rust. It's a metaphor for industrial decline and industries that go out of date. Use the term salt belt as that is not a metaphor.

      Just leave your car windows open one rainy day and not quickly dry the floor pans (including mats/carpet/sound dreading fabric) and "Voila!" you have surface rust up under your dash in no time. And to help quicken the pace throw in (or track in on your shoes or boots) some road salt. driveway salt melt, or fine ocean spray mist. Entropy is a bitch.

    Unfortunately as a mechanic you have to do what the customer wants then list everything else you fond wrong on the work order and hope for the best! Nice video, with the price of the K&N filter and the cleaning kit i could buy enough air filters on Amazon to go the life of the truck. Customer rules.

    • @williameldridge9382
      @williameldridge9382 ปีที่แล้ว

      K&N are pricey, but they aren't THAT pricey. You're supposed to replace your air filter every time you change the engine oil. However the K&N offers increased engine performance. It can give up to 25 more horsepower, depending on the engine.

    Idk why but every time you say “heeuur” idk how it would be spelled…..but I giggle every time… but great video again!!! You have skills with videoing and working on a vehicle! He taught us how with our big bobble heads getting in the way to see… also I want to know if PEETAH will ever make a guest appearance!! It always cracked me up hearing that… the dealership I worked at all I heard was BLUE!!! being yelled across the showroom or the service area… I worked in sales and service and sometimes in the shop if someone didn’t show up or called in… I did a lot in sales, service writing , and cashing out customers that were upset because of the price or the others they worked with… then the basics and certification for oil changes and inspections… so I was always getting called in different places, I was training in parts until I had quite a few health problems and had to leave… I miss working there and everyone also… even the owner still texts me to check on how I’m doing and that they are praying for my recovery… your videos bring me joy every time I get a notification because I can get lost in watching them… much love Rainman Ray!!!!!!💙💙

    Lube with PTFE SuperLube, and the same dried grease gunk you found on the pushrod pin is found inside the multifunction switches on the steering column. The dried gunk will often kill a multifunction switch. Cleaning the MF switch is often simpler than waiting for a new one to arrive.

    Those oiled filters suck for a modern, non modded out car. They do nothing for you, that a racing hat and a couple fun stickers would. But if someone insists on using one, a wise investment is a "place keeper" traditional filter to allow a couple days for complete drying of cleaner and oil to set. At least minimize the chance of MAF contamination issues.

    I did this to my 04 suburban. The difference was night and day. That fabulous GM plastic sucks. But I will say, it lasted 18 years. Would be nice if these were metal ball bearings though. I have another suburban, an 01, if I have to do this to that one, I’ll just take out the driver seat so I can lay on my back. I was in so much pain, crouched over the driver seat, smooshed in the foot well.

    Working under the dash on your back - that's a perfect time to have helper/wife unit grab tools for you. We had a 1994 Suburban and a 2005 Yukon with double that mileage, and never had such issue with brake pedal. Need lube on the steel peg/rod on the pedal where it goes through the booster hole. I've used Simple Green to clean the K&N type air filters, then used correct oil after it has dried. My 2005 had Torx head screws for the air filter housing.
