    I'm more of a computers kinda guy now, but I'll be damned if watching your videos doesn't make me long for those teenage weekends when my spare time was filled with axle stands, engine blocks, and the sound of power tools. Much love from this old English man to you and yours. Hope you're also having a great day.

      I hear you. IT job pays my bills to include maintenance and repair on my cars. However when I was younger and poorer I use to do my own repairs and maintenance. However, during the pandemic that force full time telework, the extra 4 hours a day I got back from commutes gave me time to start doing my own repairs maintenance again. Fluid exchange, radiator replacement, spark plug replacement, brake pads and rotors, etc. Slowly going back to the office so some of the more extensive repairs will need to go to the shop. TH-camrs like Rainman, The Car Care Nut, Chris Fix, and others are great motivators.

    There is a very good life lesson in every Ray Unit and Lauren Unit video. Before any action is taken... step back, determine a course of action, start with the easiest solution to the problem, analyse, correct course of action if needed, analyse again THEN begin the solution. Ray has a very logical approach and uses his 'talk it out' skills to the max. Brain time is high but actual repair time is low. He, and Lauren, have a very refreshing approach to business and auto repair. Let's wish they are profitable and successful. Thanks Ray and Lauren.

    • @Steve211Ucdhihifvshi
      @Steve211Ucdhihifvshi ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ok so by that logic do you also not have power assisted brakes, power steering or electric headlights, as one could argue the same logic. candles in the headlights were by far less hassle than canbus wired electric HId lights.

    • @TEDodd
      @TEDodd ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Steve211Ucdhihifvshi brakes still work if vacuum boost stops. Steering still functions if hydraulic assist stops.
      There's a big gap between candles and CAN bus controlled headlights. A simple switch to apply power works great and did for decades, you could even have a relay too to keep the switch current lower.

    To extend the vent hose is a good idea. I like to cut off about a half inch off the hose for a tight fit on the connector as the hose will usually fall off otherwise. Good idea to blow through the hose to make sure that it is open on the other end. Sometimes they are not.

    I like it that you also take the damage equipment apart to see its failure. Also, let’s the viewer know what was the cause of the problem and how to fix it to prevent future failure. And yes, we think it was the vent tube due to the lift. It was an extender resulting in damage of electrical equipment always happens with brake lines, and such so very true, a point, that’s always overlooked when installing a lift or doing any type of modification gotta think about the small stuff. You’re doing a great job. Wish you the very best on your entrepreneurship. Take care.

    Funny with 4WD: from 1988 to 1994 we had a 1994 Jeep Cherokee with 4WD and 5-speed transmission, and I was NEVER able to figure out if one had to be stopped to engage or disengage the 4WD. We hardly ever had need to use the 4WD, but I did pull over and stop to engage or disengage that. Owner's manual, calls to Jeep dealer never made such stuff clear, and that was before Google....

I’ll put access panel screws and cargo bay floor screws in a paint cup and give ‘em a quick shot before I reinstall things. Nothing worse than drilling out 30 or 40 screws to pull a panel for a 15 minute fix. Those lift kit diff bracket bolts could have used some going back together. It’ll make future you lots happier because corrosion never takes a day off…

    Hey Ray something that you should look into is at either an auction or at some online craigslist for whatever. What I'm suggesting is you buy one of those floor scrubbers that are used in restaurants or whatnot to clean the floors with and then you could put you know whatever kind of concrete clean or whatever down on your concrete and buff it scrub the whole floor up really good get the oil and all the crap off of there and then you'd have a nice you know work area and then just use that you know whenever you want I'm maybe a weekly thing or monthly or whatever and then you'd always have a clean floor. Plus the wife unit could use it at home yay she'll love me for that. Peace

    29:30 Bugatti made their own fasteners 90 years ago: square-headed bolts for holding and octagonal nuts for tightening. It’s a concept of assembly.

    So impressed how you deduce electrical problems and trouble shoot mechanical obstacles.

    great job troubleshooting and repairing the 4 wheel drive system. plus you have the evidence
    of what was the issue, how did you attach the 2 hoses together?

    I admire the way you can look at the whole situation and can see what can be removed/manipulated/rearranged to get the job done. You can be a master chess player.

    That red FIPG is what Toyota/Lexus uses on the transmission/differential assemblies. It’s an excellent sealant for these applications.

    Excellent job. Thorough, competent, experienced, and complete. How 'bout a t-shirt saying, "I use wobbly bits" or something like that. Wish you weren't 1,500 miles away. Don't know what you charge, but probably not enough.

    I think I mentioned before, when dealing with time sensitive install loctite 518 is the best sealant, also silicone sealants have a detrimental effect on aluminum.

    In this case due to the lift the diff breather disconnected, and you did the right move by extending the hose. The other issue being sometimes due to lift the a/c drain manages to get routed on the chassis where the moisture constantly soaks the engager unit constantly with water leading to the unit dying.

      I had to replace the subframe on my car because the a/c drain kept it water filled and corrosion. It is a shame that the lack of a nickle's worth of drain hose could have kept it from happening.

      @@charlessmarr7107 my friend had to change the actuator unit few times to find out the real cause. If you lift your vehicle, this is the first thing you take care of but is sadly overlooked often.

    when the standard transaxle actuator engaged the front driveshaft that meant you wanted 4x4. why would you want a additional actuator in the diff to let that front driveshaft spin free? just seems like a weak link added into a already good chain...

    I'll bet this issue is common on FJ forum discussions. What a laborious repair.
