I literally played Novgorod into Russia this weekend. Only formed Russia after getting their complete mission tree done and thereby getting the achievements Frozen Assets and Grand duchy. So, you formed Russia like 60 years earlier then me. Good job!

My best Russia campaing was achievement run for "Tripple the Rome". Started as Oirat, expanded way faster than as Nogrod or muscovy. I recommend to try such campaing. When you form russia, you get superrich country, thanks to trade from China and many expantion routes. Also long asia border allowes to colonise siberia superquick.

I usually pick early serfdom, and remove it when modernization is important. You can actually remove it by selecting a gorvernment reform that gives you parliament, and if you have veche republic then you can remove it by changing your republic type (and then changing it back if you want to of course)

if anyone is unsure about picking it, i'd say definitely try it out since you can remove it this way, yes there will be a few rebels to put down a bit after granting the privilage but they're really nice bonuses, especially if you want to play really aggressive

Early serfdom: Good early game, pain to modernize and get institutions. If you upgrade it with a mission it gives more manpower but more tech cost. You can roleplay what russia did IRL (big outdated army). Recommend to revoke with the event after you form russia.
Peasant freedom: Bad early game, easy to modernize and get institutions. This is the way to go. After taking it you fight boyars and get 1 stab (so useful). After you form russia you will get rise of the middle class for more benefits.
Both are okay to take, I prefer freedom because you can proclaim russian empire faster and get the new russian abilities (ccr, dev cost, free manpower) and you usually take quantity as russia so -10% manpower isnt as bad as it seems

Riga needs to be on Stability 3 for it to go giga-Riga, so usually to trigger it you gotta annex-and-release as vassal for it to trigger. Never seen it happen naturally

If you help them by devving and building the buildings, they'll usually luck upon Stability 3 eventually but you have to wait.

Definitely had it happen without releasing them maybe i was lucky back then. Dont know how rare it is for them to stab up.

@@GolemEnt It is easier to release though, because it's guaranteed to work.
When you release a nation they inherit your stability (and a bunch of other values), so if you're on 3 they'll be on 3 too and can click the mission straight away.
It also lets you do the dev pushing necessary to get the building slots with the state edict turned on.
