Learn how to make miniature kitchen pots, pans, bowls & dishes made from plastic trash. Plastic from CR2032 battery packages are particularly useful. I made a cast iron skillet, a "glass" dish, and a pie pan from that type of plastic alone. Those button batteries also happen to be the most common type of battery for LED string lights we often use in miniatures.
My fave things :)
2 oz bottle of Diamond Glaze

8 oz bottle of Diamond Glaze

Heat gun- I use mine to quickly dry paint, soften the glue to dismantle furniture and quickly cure polymer clay without an oven. Gets a lot hotter than a hair dryer.

Craft heat gun that doesn't get as hot as mine

I have lots of projects planned ranging from abandoned miniatures, furniture makeovers, accessories, kits and Dollhouse Miniatures in multiple scales. I also have a large Harry Potter build planned for 1" scale.

The covered casserole dish is my favorite. The green nail polish looks spectacular. Giving me vintage Pyrex vibes. I’m seriously impressed with the how the diamond glaze stayed crystal clear. I’m madly in love with that cast iron look you achieved. You jammed so much into that 5 minutes.
Diamond Glaze is brilliant, I bought a decanted small bottle but have since bought a big one because you can use it on so many things for so many reasons!
It's my favourite too because I have a cast iron 'Dutch oven' that colour!
Thank you! I wish I had some nail decals to add some design to the "Pyrex" casserole dish.
Diamond Glaze is my fave 😍
I bought a huge one right away bc I needed to get the best value. Lucky for me that I love it! It works just like Dimensional Magic, but it comes in much bigger sizes so it's cheaper.
That sounds very heavy but cool
I love the fact you admitted to hoarding your plastic for two years. Such a kindred spirit.🙋
Oh yes. I stored that piece of plastic like it was a treasured heirloom.
@@queencityminis l got a chuckle out of that. Treasured heirloom, l'll have to remember that. 😆
You’re unbelievably creative. Watch in awe as you transform trash into art. You now have me looking at trash in a whole different way. I look at everything now before tossing to see if I can see something in the shape. Lol. Thanks so much. You’re an inspiration
Thank you so much 😊 I always scrutinize items before throwing them away.
Oooh I absolutely love the idea of using white glue, paint and baking soda to make "flimsy" plastic feel sturdier! That's going to be such a useful trick 🤩
Yes! Also, a coat of wood glue works to make plastic sturdy, but leaves a smooth finish.
I think it takes a special kind of brain. to see a casserole dish in a battery blister pack! I'm so impressed with all of these, but the "cast iron" pan is a stand out.
Thank you! I see miniatures in everything now 😆
So cute! I love showing my husband videos like this because he thinks I'm crazy when i keep packaging and "trash" lolol! :)
Tell him it could've been worse. You could've been into hobby taxidermy. He should thank his lucky star that you don't collect roadkill for future projects. 😁
That's a great tactic 😆 I'm happy to help.
True!
Love these. When my daughter was little I made her lots of dolls house bits using packages etc. It became a bit of an obsession and I found myself looking at packaging with new eyes. I especially loved those little bowls.
That is awesome! What a lucky little girl.
I've said it before and I'll say it again you have such a creative eye to see what others would consider as trash and make it into everyday items in miniature. Thank you for sharing :o)
Thank you 😊 I appreciate that
Rusty tray, my fav. Can't wait to see comparison vid on rust. Kind word for our obsession: "Miniaturist" - alternate word "hoarder".😮
I'm excited to compare them. The Rustall costs $5/oz. Rust Effects costs $30/oz.
@@queencityminisooo hurry let's see comparison & bring on the rust
My partner always wonders why I take up so much space, when the end result is tiny 😁😁
Its hard to believe that everything was made from cheap throwaway plastic! I like all of the items but the cookie sheet is my favorite. It's amazing how realistic it looks. I've had (in the past) some pans that looked like that. Those old pans were so difficult to clean. EDIT: I just looked & the teal is the same color as the Pyrex bowls that I have.
I like the rusty sheet pan too. Reminds me of all of mine lol
Nice! I'm glad my Pyrex color is authentic.
Life hates me right now and your videos are an enormous escape. They just tick all the boxes and I can’t wait for a big exhale so I can get back to my craft room and try all the things!!!
That's great! I've gone through many hard times. I'm glad to help someone else through one of theirs.
Super! Love the turquoise Pyrex! Kathleen
Thank you 😊
I really love your use of handy items to make things. I keep telling myself I am going to make some things for my little project but just end up watching others do their thing. I am just so impressed with the outcomes!
I too have got lots of 'could come in handy' stuff. And after hoarding it for umpteen years, you know that the week after you've thrown it away, it could've been useful.
Tell me about it! I hate that
Thank you :) make something for your little project. It'll be a good time
I'm I ever glad to find this video. Someone gifted me a Mini Verse Make It Mini set. I just couldn't bring myself to throw away all the plastic thinking there was a way to make more mini's out of the plastic holding the tiny bowls, etc. Now I'm going to be saving the plastic from other items as well. :)
Glad I could help! Have fun
I love love love these tutorials!! Being able to "see" what else something can be is an awesome gift! It also gives the maker miniature pieces that no one else has. I have a whole container full of cool shaped plastic stuff that I need to get busy working on! Thank you for the motivation to get going!! 😹
Have fun! I had a blast.
LOVE the Fryin' Pan!
Thank you 😊
Shyra, I love your trash mini makeovers. I’ve been eyeing every piece of trash I see wondering if I can turn in it to something for my Miniature 1980s house. It’s 1/24 scale so everything is homemade. I’m loving it! 🥰 Lesley
That sounds like such a fun project. Enjoy 😊
That's awesome! I have been kind of wanting to create a late 80's/early 90's dollhouse using mostly the Memphis style (it's my favorite!).
Absolutely in love with the turquoise casserole dish. 🥰
Same here! The color is great
I enjoy watching you make miniatures. These kitchen items are genius. I loved seeing the difference of painting the inside and outside of the bowls.
Glad you like them! I was hoping the difference would come across on camera.
Everything looks so realistic. I made an ashtray with cigarettes and cigarette butts for my sisters livingroom diorama, she just absolutely loves it. It made everything look so real. Thanks for that video and all the rest you do. Oh, the covered casserole dish and cast iron pan are amazing.
Hi Agnes, that sounds brilliant! If you don't mind me asking, what did you use to make the mini cig butts? I LOVE the sound of this! x
@@appleoneill5135 queen city minis had a video on cigarettes and ash tray, it's very cool watching. You'll get a better explanation and tutorial from her.

They're so simple! Ara used this tutorial to make the cigarettes and ashes for her Beetlejuice waiting room ash trays.
Hoarding weird plastics from all kinds of things as well as any amount of cardboard etc in order to design and build furniture, housing and household goods for my Barbies has become my new favorite pastime. I have to hide it though or my husband starts throwing it away. ...😅
I can understand the mistake 😆
I’ve been collecting and I don’t even know why. 🤷🏻♀️ I just feel that one day I’m going to make something.
I've loved making minis all my life, but now in my 60s its not so easy, even with my glasses on 😂
Maybe you need to switch to Barbie scale 😉
Love, love, love!! I keep saving bits of packaging and trash, especially when they have unusual shapes and colors, and I think of you every time for this exact reason!! Love your imagination, practicality, resourcefulness!
Thank you 😊 I hope you have fun making some things.
Oooo, that green covered casserole! Brilliant!
Thank you! I wish I had some nail decor for the sides and top to really make it look like vintage Pyrex.
These came out so nice. I do like what you did with the cast iron pan. And using the nail polish sure gives you more color options. Thanks for the practical ideas.
You're welcome 😁
I think you should! I bet I’m not the only one who would buy them 😊
Thank you! Looks like that's something I'll think of doing when I settle down after moving. Haven't found a house yet, so who knows when that will be?
Oh my gosh ... those little teeny pieces of salmon at the very end ❤
I got them from a woman from Etsy but I can't find any record of the sale, so idk who it was
I now have several bags of saved blister pack packaging plastic. 🤪 Some I threw out, only to grab it back right away. "What if I need it??"😮It's super fun to grab some out and let the imagination run wild. Thank You for Another Great Video! 👍
Same here. I have a couple pieces of plastic I did throw out and regretted it. Now I hoard too much.
Yes! I've used them for paint palettes, reinforcing the hanging hole in wall calendars, and mending cracked mini blinds. @@queencityminis
For mini cookie sheets, my mom used to use the little eyeshadow pans in old eyeshadows or cream products too!
I love that! That would be great for half scale as well
That casserole dish with the teal nail polish looks amazing! I also love the cast iron frying pan. I’m going to look at plastic packaging differently now!
There are miniatures everywhere if you know where to look 👀
These are awesome! The cast iron skillet looks 100% realest to me. They are all real looking, but that one blows the rest away. I really like the bowls and covered casserole dish. It’s just incredible how you look at something and “see” ways to use it in your art. That’s the best part about creating anything I believe. Looking forward to more videos and thanks for sharing! ♥️🖌️🎨
Thanks so much 😊
This is so funny, I've just finished a video (which I haven't uploaded yet) using plastic to make miniature kitchen dishes 🤣 although I made them in a more complicated way. I have now try to use your technique! Love them! Thank you for sharing!!😊💕
That sounds great! Can you share the link?
I will upload the video next Friday the 12th and can share the link then 😊💕@@queencityminis
Black skillet is my favorite. Just love the way you can turn ordinary objects into a creative item.
Thank you 😊 it's so rewarding
You amaze me. All of your finished products are incredible and your narration and explanation of what you’re doing is priceless. Thank you so much
Thanks so much 😊 the voiceover is the worst part to me, but it's worth it.
@@queencityminis I don’t know why it’s the worst part for you because you do it so well….!!!!!!
I really love the blue-ish oval casserole dish!!!!
Thank you 😊
I agree - the covered casserole dish is also my favorite. It looks so real! You've got me hoarding discarded plastic and other items, so thanks for the ideas for transforming them!
Haha. That's great! Hoard away
I am absolutely engrossed in your channel! These dishes and pans are stunning! I'm visiting my daughter's family and grandkids. I can't wait to get home to my craftroom😂
Hope you enjoy! I had a blast
What a clever idea, making that plastic into cooking pots, thanks for sharing
You are so welcome! I'll make another video like this with different ideas for sure. This was fun.
They are all really great, but I like the covered green dish the best. It turned out so smooth and realistic! ❤
Thanks so much! 😊 It turned out so smooth! I'm impressed
I can’t pick a favourite because I like them all, they turned out beautifully, tfs x Julie 🇬🇧
Same here!
Thank you 😊
I love all of your ideas. When I see ANY packaging, I immediately try to think of something I can make with it. Great suggestions on your painting techniques. Thank you very much.
Same here. I have quite the collection of garbage
Great use on recycling to make free props, hope you show more ideas
I have more plastic so I'll do another video like this for sure.
I love cast iron and Pyrex.. both are so expensive now. With these techniques I might actually be able to have a collection 🤣 seriously though, loved the cast iron frying pan and the light green nail polish dish!
Thank you 😊
Love the cast iron skillet; it's so realistic!
It looks even better than I expected. I want to make more "cast iron" things.
The cast iron skillet is my favorite and the bowls ❤
Thank you :)
My fave is the turquoise casserole dish!
Same! I wish I had nail decals or little stickers. Then it would look like vintage Pyrex.
I love all of these...that cast iron pan looks so real ❤
I love how it turned out!
I bet you see amazing things in every day objects and even trash! I do too but not yet on your level. I’m loving these videos. ❤
Oh thank you! Great minds think alike
Wow that is impressive the detail you got just from plastic shapes, paint, and mod podge!
Thank you very much! I have more plastic, of course. I'll be doing another plastic transformation video for sure. This was fun.
I love your imagination - it sparks mine. Thank you
Wow, thank you!
Whole new eyes now on plastic packaging. Amazing doesn't cover your ability to see a new way to recycle plastic. Thank you for sharing. Wishing you a happy, healthy, creative and prosperous New Year.
Thank you! I see miniatures in everything now
So creative! And your voice is a pleasure to listen to.
Thank you!
These are adorable, very creative designs out of scrape plastic. ❤
Thank you! 😊
I don’t know anyone with the imagination to do something like this cheers!
Aww, thank you so much
The pan is my favorite, it looks so realistic! Can't wait to try this texturing technique!
It's so good! Had a lot of fun doing this. I've collected more plastic to transform in a new video someday.
If sanding the little plastic pieces feels awkward or slow, a light misting spray of acrylic or enamel “krylon” or other sealer in satin or matte, etches the surface as well as “priming” it to accept craft paints. These are all great and exactly what I needed to inspire me for a current project! Thank you!
That's a great tip! Thank you
They turned out wonderful...and to think it would otherwise end up in a landfill!
Absolutely. Saving the world one miniature at a time.
The covered casserole dish is my favorite. Though I like all your creation. have a great day
Thank you! It would look so good with a turkey and veggies in it.
I love the cast iron pan! Thanks so much for these great ideas
You are so welcome! The cast iron is my fave
I love them all. I like the worn look on the baking sheets. Also the bowls where you painted the inside only to keep the outside shiny.
Yes! Thank you!
thank you for another great video, you don't know it, but you've just given me the ideas i needed to make a popcorn machine inner workings!
th-cam.com/video/HcFj6oaCxcs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=U81P9WUGf3KX9T9A
Check out this video from Whitney LaBrie. She made a corn dog machine, but I think it has a lot of qualities of a popcorn machine. Maybe it would help.
loved the casserole dish
Thank you!
Bravo! Love all of them…but the cast iron pan is my favorite. Cool tip mixing baking soda into the paint for added realistic texture. ❤
Thanks so much! 😊
I was cutting up blister packs that some of my meds come in when this popped up in my notifications lol.
That's so funny 😆
I've always had trouble with nail polish in the long term, though it does look fabulous on that casserole dish. I'd be really interested to see you come back to these in six months or so for an update on their wear and tear.
That's a good idea. I would never remember, so I set a reminder in my Calendar.
Love the cast iron fry pan!
Thank you 😊
I'm working on a book nook and this video has given me some really great ideas on how to finish some of the items for the shelves. I loved all the effects you were able to create and have so much admiration for artists like yourself who can look at a random shape in waste plastic and see something completely different. Kudos on a very informative video.
I'm so glad! I hope you have a lot of fun finishing your project.
They look perfect.
Thank you 😊
I really love them all, but my favorite is the “glass”.
So simple, but it's really cool and realistic
Which is my fav? Man, that's a tough 1. They're all so cute, and the realism is spot on. You're really good @ this stuff!
I really appreciate the cake pan. It was so easy and looks very convincing.
Brilliant! Now there's something ELSE for me to hoard! 😂😂😂
I know, I know. I'm spreading my disease 😆
Nice to meet you (and your channel). Absolutely love the fact you share triumphs as well as the successes.
I have autism and thinking outside the box is sometimes hard to do. So thank you for the inspiration and a new look on things. Love it!
You're so welcome! I'm happy to help
Oh my goodness!! These are adorable. I try not to be a hoarder of stuff I think I’ll eventually use, but resistance is futile!! Oh well I’m happy to have found you!! Thank you!!❤
Hoard away! It's fun turning trash into minis.
Awesome ❣️ My favorite is the casserole dish 😊
Good choice!
I am absolutely amazed at what you created out of trash plastic! The cast-iron looked perfect! And that ratty looking cooking sheet, it’s pretty much a twin for one that I have.😂
Thanks so much! We can all relate to stained cookie sheets 😆
outstanding job on the cast iron skillet! thanks for sharing how much potential these disposable materials have. and also for sharing your experiments and not just perfect results every time.
My pleasure! I hid my mistakes early on in my channel but then stopped doing that.
I love them. I especially love the cast iron. You're amazing❤
Thank you so much!
I got the make it mini all you can eat for Christmas. I spend quite a bit of time today cutting up the plastic packaging. There are a bunch of cool shapes. I can’t wait to see what I can do with them.
That sounds so cool! I've never heard of that
Wow these all came out so amazing!🤩 And I am really looking forward to your rust review ;)
Thank you! I am too. The thickness of the products is so different. I'm intrigued.
I Love your method for creating these! They all turned out so nice!!Great tip about painting with the Diamond Glaze to strengthen the plastic. Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks so much 😊 I would have tried clear nail polish, but mine is really thick and should probably be tossed. It's super old.
@@queencityminis Oh yeah, I forgot all about clear nail polish. I bet that would work.
I love the cast iron skillet 🍳. You gave me so many ideas with all the different shape plastics. Thank you and have a wonderful Saturday 💐
You are so welcome!
It's crazy how much junk we keep around for crafts and mini things that we have a vision for but to others it just looks like we are insane hoarders 😂 i keep a lot of my scraps bc i can usually find a reason for them. Now I'm gonna start keeping my plastic... awesome 😅
Absolutely!! I'm packing to move. I've packed quite a bit of trash to take with me 😆
How cool!! You are so full of knowledge!!!! Thank you so much❤❤❤❤!!!!
You are so welcome!
👍🏻I liked the casserole dish/lid
Thank you! How cute would it be with a nail decal or mini sticker? Vintage Pyrex had little patterns on them.
The cast iron pan looks real and ready for some cornbread.😃 The blue/green casserole is my favorite. Very pretty.
Cornbread! What a quaint idea. Thank you 😊
@@queencityminis Girl, I've lived in Atlanta for decades.🍑 haha
All are awesome. I love the cast iron pan.
Thank you 😊
I love these!! The casserole dish is my favorite. What a great idea, I think I'm going to start hoarding plastic now too 😂 oh dear!!
Making minis really is an addiction 😆 I'm packing to move and have packed a lot of trash in my boxes.
You can make your own emory boards by using a popcycle stick and the sand paper of your choice. This will give you options for smoothing down areas with ease, as a piece of sanding paper breaks down too quickly.
That's a cool idea! Thank you
These are so cute!
Thank you 😊
I love the casserole dish and lid. The cast iron pan was amazing. Years ago, I made a diorama of a British military campsite from the Revolutionary War (my husband and I are historical reenactors) and I could add some cast iron pieces to the diorama. It's in half scale, so this would be a fun challenge.
That sounds amazing! Maybe you could try baking powder or baby powder to add texture to the paint since the scale is smaller.
That's a great suggestion!@@queencityminis
What a great idea. I love the covered casserole dish. Awesome job!
Thanks so much! 😊
😳😳😳😳😳LOVE THEM ALL!
Thank you 😊
Love them all ❤
Thank you 😊
These are brilliant. I have to start paying more attention to my rubbish
There are miniatures everywhere, hiding in our trash pile
I love this. I do the same thing with my leftover "trash" ❤ you can make so many things using recycled items. ❤❤
Love that! ♻️
Oh good I’m glad I’m not the only one hoarding that special piece of plastic, lol.
I just found a new piece today 😉
So clever - love the turquoise casserole dish!
Omg i was saving recyling and didnt know why. Now i do.
Yes! Time to make minis.
'I immediately thought it looked like a casserole dish.'. I just loved that. 🙂
Making minis changes your perception for sure 😊
These are all so neat! I have saved tiny/trash before thinking (I know I can use this to make something else), but didn't figure it out and felt like "others" might think because I did that I might be odd 🥺So glad I found your page, and now I can use some of the things I have and make things like you do. Thanks for sharing them!
You are so welcome! When there are so many of us doing the same weird stuff, are we really that odd? 😆
