    I just want to say I've watched several videos on why a fuel pump goes bad and you're the only one who explain it.Bravo continue what you do buddy you're good

    This is very helpful. I will order two pumps and precut the fuel line and have it on the pump so if a fuel line fails I will have that covered as well. Thank You!

    Wow thanks... I was stuck at night time in a bay while netting my motor was cutting out like that and I managed to pump it manually like you're doing now which managed to get me home I thought it was going to wreck something if I was pumping it manually...thanks this good information

    Please help??
    Hey team
    We have a 1977 Johnson 9.9. We loose power/engine speed under load. When running via the ear muffs we get high revs, but when in the water we get no decent boat speed and less revs.
    We have brand new fuel lines, fuel pump replacement kit installed, strong spark, new spark plugs, holds pressure at 105 in each spark plug, carby has been been repaired, float looks good and all clean.
    Previous owner has added an extra rubber ‘ring’ to the roller on the cam follower - which make the throttle open before it gets to the marker on the throttle control cam. Could this interrupt the ignition timing enough to cause loss of power under load?
    We are using premium (98) gasoline with 50:1 ratio to oil TCW3. Should we use something lower like 91? Also the tank we are running has a small amount of 2stroke engine cleaner, could that be it? (Going to try fresh petrol this weekend with out cleaner).
    Could we have missed anything with the carb? Should we remove and replace the top plug and air bleed nozzle - even if they look fine? What other air tests can we perform on the carbie to make sure it’s 100%
    Thanks in advance for any advice!!
    Cheers

    I have 1992 9.9 Evinrude that will not run, I cleaned carb, and fuel lines flow good to the carb. However it only runs if I add a little fuel directly to the carb for few seconds! Can someone please help me with this issue!

    • @BoatMotors
      @BoatMotors  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It could be many things...Start with a compression test and tell me the numbers. Do the test correctly leave the choke in the OFF/OPEN position, switch to forward gear and turn the throttle handle to fast. Both spark plugs must be removed during the test.

  • @Enjoyinqtheoutdoors

    I replaced the fuel pump, replaced spark plugs, made sure it had new fuel, cleaned carb.. still can’t get it to start. The flywheel key is in place, there is spark and compression is good. I feel like the spark plugs are fairly clean though and not getting soaked with gasoline. If I remove the hose from the pump to the carb on the carb end and I pull to start no gas comes out. If I press the bulb the gas shoots out. Did I get a bad fuel pump or maybe it needs to go a different direction? I’m going to get some starter fluid in a can tomorrow and shoot it down the carb while I try starting it to see if it starts.

    I have a 2011 E-Tec 150
    I ran out of fuel while out boating a few months back
    Since then having issues with fuel not being sent over to fuel pump unless I manually pump the primer bulb to keep the engine from dying. Had to pump it all the way back to the ramp to keep it from stalling
    Replaced all fuel line to outboard, new primer bulb, new pickup tube, new water separator kit, has a 3 month old fuel lift pump and a 4 month old OEM VST and fuel pump, I can hear the fuel pump running when I turn key… made sure all lines are air tight secured, lift pump is priming fuel pump.. runs on idle for 30 mins then dies.. I give it gas then will shut off after 30 seconds. Put a clear line coming out of the tank to see if picking up fuel.
    At random it will start working and can see the fuel being sent to the outboard but once I shut off and try again it will go back to not sending fuel at all out of the tank to outboard. Plz help
    Thinking of opening fuel pump and make sure VST might not be clogged up or something
    It did have some really old fuel line (grey line)
    Heard lots of issues with those
    Thanks for reading!

      This sounds like a big mystery. The E-Tec 150 is a very capricious outboard motor...Is the tank you are using removable or stationary build in the boat?

    • @SkiffFishing
      @SkiffFishing หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      it’s removable.. forgot to mention.. hooked up an external 3 gallon tank and still not pickup up fuel… yeah tell me , I’ve heard the stories of E-Tecs… I do want to mention my injectors are dirty if I leave on idle for 15 mins it will foul 4 injectors .. but it was working perfectly fine with this issues as long as I’m throttling it won’t foul
      Haven’t gotten time to send them to be cleaned out professionally yet
      Had it running still that way for a good 2 months with no troubles

      @@SkiffFishing Can you attach a fuel vacuum gauge to the fuel line to see for any suction?

    • @SkiffFishing
      @SkiffFishing หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@BoatMotors I’m sure I can, do I attach it after fuel pump?

    • @BoatMotors
      @BoatMotors  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@SkiffFishing The gauge should work in two modes: vacuum and pressure. First, do a test before the pump and then after the pump.

    Hi What caused the fuel pump to fail? Because in the span of 6 months, he changed three times, and I don't know why

    • @BoatMotors
      @BoatMotors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      First reason is a low quality material (the flexible diaphragm). Second reason is dirt can get stuck in the fuel pump valves. If you add fuel filter this is going to eliminate one of the reasons.

  • @larrywoodward2898

    I had classic symptom of a bad fuel pump, carburator bowl was not filling after a minute or two of running. I replaced with a new pump. Now cannot get fuel to flow through the pump. When I prime the system with the squeeze bulb at the tank, fuel is blocked at the new pump. Pulling the starter cord does not help. This is a johnson 35 hp 1984.

    • @BoatMotors
      @BoatMotors  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I believe the new pump is defective.

      LOL, I got the fuel hoses reversed when I installed the new pump . I was trying to supply fuel to the outflow side. Lesson learned: take a photo before you disassemble.
