3 Months On Mars: Perseverance

- In just 3 short months, the Perseverance rover has captured over 70,000 images, multiple audio recordings and more than 4 videos of the Mars helicopter in flight.
Strange noises, undisclosed family portraits and relics brought from Earth are just some of the things revealed over the first leg of this incredible mission.
This, is 3 Months on Mars.
18th February, 2021. The Perseverance rover makes history by recording it’s descent and landing.
A coded message is hidden in the colouring of the parachute, which reads the phrase: ‘Dare Mighty Things’.
The heat shield is released, giving us a clear view of the surface.
The landing is fully automated; the craft is now checking for the best spot to land.
The sky-crane manoeuvre is initiated.
The video footage you are watching is currently being transmitted to the rover through a cable, before the cable is cut and the descent stage flies away to crash land.

I just find this so fascinating... I mean, we've existed on our planet for millions of years, and we're alive at this EXACT moment to be able to experience this. Just think, lots of those rocks etc. have been sat up there the entire time. Amazing.
Or…you know…it’s on Greenland or the Mojave desert somewhere (for example) and NASA is making a sh*t tonne of money from it from folks who can’t see past their own noses 👍🏼

People have often speculated over the idea of "terraforming" the planet, though I think it is impossible given the fact that it would take millions of years to achieve.

the piece of the wright brothers plane being put on the heli is so cool. like imagine going back in time to tell them that part of their invention is on a different planet attached to something that was directly inspired by them
I am astonished that the museum that has the Wright brothers plane would allow NASA to take a piece of it! NASA could have done something else! Totally unnecessary desecration!
I honestly don't see the connection. Sikorsky and a piece of the first helicopter which is what the little thing is or von Braun with the first rocket, building the moonrocket and having the lifelong dream of visiting Mars would have been the more fitting piece of history in my opinion.

These high-definition photos are so unreal. It feels like you're just looking at some desert on Earth, it would never cross my mind that it is on Mars unless you told me! So beautiful.

The fact that we can actually record sounds on Mars is mindblowing. I know it has an atmosphere, but it's so bizarre. Things literally could sound different on Mars.
Giving that weight as a big part when it comes to making sounds
It isn’t a could, but is a fact that almost everything will sound different.
Things will even feel different as our atoms would have such a hard time with getting use to gravity so weird like.
You should listen to the audio recordings of Venus made by a Soviet probe in the 70s or 80s. It's pretty crazy!

I don't know what it is about these rovers, but it brings me so much joy. They are direct representations of us! Of human kind. The tremendous effort and stress that went into a great project like this. And to see your creation live on, sustaining itself, I feel like a proud father and I have nothing to even do with this.

What a beautiful touch to take some of the fabric from the Wright Brothers' plane. Not only has it now flown on two planets, it's done it in two different types of atmospheres... it's also travelled through space... Those two brilliant men could never have imagined how far the fruit of their endeavours would travel, and where...!

Perseverance is such a down to mars robot.
I am loving this series. Had to start over so I could binge watch the past 2 1/2 years all at once!
This will inspire a new generation of scientists, engineers and explorers. Getting such detailed images, and a drone flying on Mars is just amazing.

@@itstimetomakelol6650 Not just delay. It's incredibly far, so transfer speeds will be atrocious. A livestream wouldn't be possible. Best we can do maybe is set cameras to automatically record and send when the videos are done.
Having some of the fabric from the Wright Bros plane on the rover was very cool. Looking at both images made me think how far we've come in such a short time. Mankind does have the intelligence to overcome many obstacles if they put their mind to it. Awesome. Amazing video.

Just imagine Perserverance says: I’ve found a weird robot with wheels and it says “Spirit”
Funnily enough, one of Percy's finalist landing sites was Colombia Hills in Gusev Crater, which was previously explored by the Spirit rover, and located only a few Km away from Spirit's final resting spot at Home Plate. Would have been interesting to have a meetup on another planet in a way similar to Apollo 12 visiting Surveyor 3.

The U.S does comply with international copyrights as does Canada but I somehow doubt China is apart of that as they've been violating our patents and trademarks left and right for ages.

The piece of the first place to fly on earth flying on Mars made me tear up. So amazing that was able to happen and an incredibly symbol of how far humans have come, and how far we can go. Amazing

i wonder how cool it'd be in the future when future astronauts finally manage to get on to mars and set sight on these rovers scattered throughout the red planet. ones that are still functional and ones that aren't anymore will all be there on display for them to see. it'll be like a museum of feats humans have accomplished as a space-faring species.
