- The Lotus Eletre that you’re looking at here has, on the face of it, as much in common with a Lotus Seven or Elise as a speed-boat has with a cross-channel ferry. It’s a pure-electric SUV, weighs north of 2.2 tonnes, and, can you believe, also happens to be the first Lotus in the company’s 74-year history to have four doors. It’s powered by a 105kWh battery good for 600bhp-plus, promises a WLTP range of 373 miles, and is AI future-proofed in all sorts of ways, including the world’s first deployable LIDAR for level four autonomy. This isn’t a car, it’s a quantum leap. So here’s Top Gear Magazine’s Jack Rix to talk you around it.

Emira comes from former while Eletre from latter but what combine them is the Lotus DNA!
You can argue Evija is 500KG heavier than Exige but it's also 500KG lighter than competition, you can argue Eletre one ton heavier than Exige but Eletre is on par with petrol SUVs and much lighter than electric SUVs!
Find me an SUV does more downforce than Eletre.... There's non.... And that's Lotus DNA (Lightness + Aerodynamics), and all Lotus cars including Eletre deliver that compared to competition

"Light weight" needs to be compared to other vehicles of its type. Is it light compared to a bicycle? No. Is it light compared to an off-road haul truck? Yes. Do either of those stats matter? No.
Is it light compared to other Electric SUV/CUVs? Yes, very much so!

Look's really cool for an SUV, with a ton of promising features. Whether Lotus can meet any of it's claims, I guess we'll wait and see.

It's electric car it doesn't have to chippin too much on the weight, it can be heavy and fast like model x, people forget why lotus trying to be as light as possible in the first place

Stunning car. I'm surprised they went from tiny to very large that quickly, though. Working their way up would've made more sense but I suppose SUVs sell best.
I like it! I have an electric Lotus actually (Tesla roadster) and look forward to seeing this at a dealership or something. Would be nice to check it out in person.
I think the smaller EV will sell better just like the Macan has for Porsche.

Targeting 2000 kgs. If they manage, that will be decent. Won't be the most roomy EV at that weight, of course. Similarly large EVs externally can weigh over 2600 kg and not get very far on a charge.

This is simply Lotus' Cayenne: the survival model. They will make this and another SUV so that they can keep true lightweight* sportscars alive and hopefully there is a bright electric future competition between Porsche, Lotus, and Polestar awaiting us all!

The design is an amalgamation of the Lamborghini Urus, a hint of Ferrari (headlights) and Porsche (brakelights)

The Chinese factually have the largest market share in many huge nations in smartphones. DJI is the biggest drone company i know of and that is Chinese.
One doesn't have to like the Chinese but they are world leaders in electronics (obviously not all subsectors). I'm Indian and we've had soldiers die in border skirmishes with the Chinese so obviously I don't like them too

You can't correlate quality with sales, especially when China's main market is China itself followed by less developed nations like India. Chinese companies are heavily subsidized, not to mention price dumping, rampant IP theft and many other unfair trade practices. Add to that sell-out western companies that outsource to China is basically gifting them IP.
If they were any good they wouldn't need teams in the hundreds of hackers to steal plans from US and EU companies. which they then copy poorly

Pair reviews, nobody talks about cost of owning a car like this after warranty runs out.
So many electrics there, the industry as very well showed us that electrics in cars do fail and fail bad.
Nobody talks about how reliable their are ? If we care about environment for real, we need cars that can last last 20 + years with a decent price of maintaining cost.
Otherwise people will just replace them with new ones every 5 years. Is this the plan for a better world ?
Buy a new model y, you won't need to change it for 10+ years ... maybe a battery change at year 10 but at that point you might get a rebate on your next battery pack

When something sounds too good to be true, it is too good to be true. And this car, everything sounds to good to be true. Under 3 sec acceleration for this sized car, 18 mins charging to full. I will take it with more than a pinch of salt, more like a bowl of salt
the R+ version get 905hp，0-100km/h is 2.95sec. And with its 800V structure，if it use lotus‘s own supercharger，it would do 10%-80% charge in 19minutes.
Title is incorrect. It was designed at the "Lotus Tech Creative Centre" in Coventry and will be made in 2019's favourite, Wuhan.
Wuhan is trying to rescue its reputation
Look 60 or 70% of all porsche cars sold in the US in 1 year were porsche macan (timy corssover suv). A performance car brand full of 911 & other top cars. So that should tell you The world wants suvs now. And companies need to make cash. So its the future.
But of course I prefer to own both. A luxury sports sedan for fun, and a luxury suv for bumpy roads on a day I want to relax and not feel anything. Too bad the rolls Royse and Bently suvs are oversized and boring heavy & not good off roaders compared to the market.
I am interested in a future hybrid-Lamborghini Urus the best high end SUV in my opinion. Until rolls makes a slimmer prettier macan like SUV then that will be my pick, luxury, comfort, and some performance.
I also can't wait for a black badge ghost hybrid electric. They said they will do a full electric but that's too boring honestly, at least offer both as options

I'm not saying it's bad but this is clearly a rebadged Hyundai Ioniq 6. I'm not sure people want to buy a Hyundai badged as a Lotus. Now that said I've had lots of trouble with my 05 Elise and I am having trouble now with my Ioniq 5. Getting repairs done at either dealership is a very long drive. I might add that I really like my Ioniq 5. There are a lot of things they did really well. Something's even better than my model Y. So I'm not saying it's bad. It's just odd that a Hyundai will be a Lotus.
