    The mud brick situation does not surprise me. Also the lack of a foundation. Back in the old days, most stables etc didn’t have any flooring as to absorb liquid animal waste directly into the ground.
    👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    What you did was very much needed. No explanation necessary, you know your land and buildings and it was definitely unstable. You owe no one any explanation.
    Do what you need to do for you and your family. We admire you and what you are doing. Also many do not take budget into account and any work is not cheap.

      Thank you for understanding. There's so much discussion that happens away from the camera but it's nice to give our viewers a small insight into why we do what we do. We literally do only have what is left at each month from our wages for the build so we just do the best we can with what we have. 😊

    You gotta do you, you have to make things safe and reliable for your family. You will always get the naysayers especially on here. You know what you want and you should go for it. I don't think you should have to explain that you want a safe building so you had to knock down a proper dodgy wall... we are lucky enough to go along with your journey. I have still to finish mine but its too late for me to start TH-cam so I'm following you guys.

    Please, don't be sorry for knocking down that barn. It had to go anyway. Concentrate on the house's roof and by next winter it will be ready for living. I am kind of sure that this barn was built as a temporary building and that it was not in the house documents, or notary deed.

    Isn't it easier to push down all bad structures and start building a new house, not very big that you can enlarge in the future.
    You both are young and strong and can do much of the work yourself. Preserve the best old building to live in and start.
    Of course you must have some starting capital. I have done a lot of the work in our house myself. Is it possible such a plan?
    You are really doing a lot of work making your garden anew, cleaning the yard and many problems are going away. I wish you success.
    You are brave and hard-working people. The future is yours!

    • @OffGridWithTheUdens
      @OffGridWithTheUdens  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You're right, if we had the capital and the house was what we had bought the land for we would definitely be working on it. However, the truth is, the house is not structurally safe or viable, it is also not the house we have planned. As for the capital - we have none. We moved here knowing that our building process would be slow, mainly due to limited funds. But that's okay. We will continue working hard for a better life and we are absolutely loving every minute of the journey.

    Loved the plants. I have some acuba japonica (live in Scotland) and they're not a fan of being in full sun, so if the leaves start looking yellow and have brown spots they need a bit shade. The Oleander, I had in Saudi and when it flowers it smells beautiful but it is also known as "suicide plant" so worth checking out what parts are an issue with children and animals around? All the hard core on the drive as well as the drainage should make this winter much more bearable for you this winter 🤞🤞

    Don't have to explain yourselfs.
    I'd knock off the mud brick, clear a bit of the floor area, pull the rubble over the floor space, mesh it and pour a slab ready for the new build.
    I would have liked to skin the new build with the stone, but time and costs (don't know what you have to use) would have me whip up a TFC, American style framing roof on and bobs your uncle nice little housey.
    Tip of the day, try not to plan to far ahead. Things happen.
    It appears to be fairly common that there are not big foundations, I went looking and Mr fox had been moving himself in and so I could see the old house foundations... As the agent was telling me how they are a meter down... Lol..
    Hoping to find out Monday if the offer has been accepted!!!
    Fear and excitement.... Mostly fear 😅
    Now some moaning....
    Looks like you need to take a look the house roof back side as you're going to be losing tiles soon.
    I hope the solar panels are not in a Single string as the two angles will lower your output. You can do them parallel..
    I knew I should have came down to see you when I was over, if I go back with out my onslaught (lovely purchase) taking its toll I'll come give you a hand for a day or two.

      @radoslavtomov9121 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Keep in mind this is Bulgaria. A bit different from UK. We have moderate to high risk of earthquakes depending on the location. If you want to have a slab, which will last -> then you need some form of decent foundations. I personally don't find these old buildings to be safe, people back then did what they have to to survive. But the idea of an wooden structure is a good one. Also instead of concrete foundation, they can use earth screws instead. Does the job good and is very economical/fast.

    • @guywhoknows
      @guywhoknows 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@radoslavtomov9121 I would be concerned with ground screws as there is a lot of movement. A solid slab will move, and keep together what is on top, screws can move separately. If you use piles then that could transmit earthquakes or become unstable.
      I think there are pros and cons for all different scenarios, hill side building takes some consideration.

    • @OffGridWithTheUdens
      @OffGridWithTheUdens  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@OffGridWithTheUdens I bet, I've not even bought the place yet and I'm doing that already. What I do it gets a A4 pad, draw out the site and it's buildings a few times and then jot down various ideas , the copies are for the mountain of changes.
      The problem and I have this with clients is options. Because you're not limited, and you can have or do what you want, you will always lack certainty. Usually the first idea is the best idea.
