As someone who’s struggled with anxiety, panic attacks and depression, I can’t even imagine what this might be like. My heart goes out to all of those struggling❤

    Damn, this must be so hard to go through... I can't even imagine how horrible it must feel to be stuck in a body that doesn't fit your gender. Even though there is nothing physically wrong with these people, there IS a whole lot that feels wrong, and in the end, that's the only thing that matters. Of course there IS treatment, there ARE ways to change your body, but still, it means going through a process which I am sure isn't all easy and painless. Best wishes and lots of love to everyone suffering from this condition.

    I have a neighbour who has the body of a man but obviously feels like a woman because she dresses like a woman. As a man she's not hansom so as a woman she's a pretty rough looking woman. Whenever I see her walk by or ride her bicycle all I can think to myself is,"there goes an extremely courageous human being" Imagine how difficult her life must be and how much easier life could be if she gave up and dressed like a guy ? But she did that she wouldn't be true to herself. Now that's integrity taken to the extreme. My God that's brave.

    • @thebeatles102998
      @thebeatles102998 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Felixq78 She wears a dress but I don't see how it makes her brave because even as a man she'd be harassed for wearing dresses (and identifying as a man). You're implying that because she's a trans woman wearing a dress she must face a lot of backlash, so it begs the question why would she choose to transition anyway if she could have chosen to remain a man and not face backlash? The answer is because it's not about identity it's about the dress. If she were to still identify as a man and wear a dress she would be harassed in the exact same way as she would as a trans woman. Just ask any drag queen. But for women it's normalized in society to wear dresses. It just sounds like internalized sexism and unwillingness to accept one's gender nonconformity because society punishes non conformity. It's not an identity, it's a costume.

    The surgeries are only cosmetic. They cause irreparable scaring. And they can damage or destroy the abluty to orgasm, and definitely reproduce. All, rather than address the underlying issues causing self hatred? I agree that love and compassion are our main roles as a society. But, I didn't agree that changing the body so radically is actually a solution. I feel like we fail these special souls when that is all we have to offer them. It feels like a money grab for the medical community to me. It doesn't actually change ourcomes. It's a complex and saddening situation for sure. But we can at least try to be kind.

    The toxicity of this comment section shows how adverse our culture is towards accepting people who are different. Discrimination is a real monster and it's everywhere, not just hiding in the recesses. It makes me sad. I am a cis gender male that had a recently deteriorated relationship with a partner that identifies as they/them and is dealing with gender dysphoria. We broke up for more than a few reasons, gender dysphoria exacerbated our relationship. I wish I could have been there to help them more. These issues are hard to deal with, but burying them does nothing to help.

    The lack of helping them to understand WHY, from a psychological viewpoint, these individuals feel as if they were born in the wrong body. That’s because either purposely or unintentionally through lack of understanding of the issue trans people have to deal with a lot of horrible comments and treatment from others which could cause trauma. I have a trans friend who told me when she was in high school they teased her so badly about it then found cockroaches and forced her to stay still while letting the cockroach crawl on her. I mean this very obviously is a bad case of being bullied. I feel like this must be a mental disorder however all the rest of us need to treat these people with the same kindness and respect as everyone else. In addition we need to learn a little about it and know how to talk to them in a way that is not hurtful. I mean think about it. What if you were them and someone said something very rude, hurtful, alienating to the point that they began to hate themselves so much that they commit suicide. Im not going to lie, i don’t even know exactly what not to say. It is still fairly new that they have come out of hiding and secrecy. You know the golden rule, it doesn’t matter who u are u deserve respect and kindness always. They didn’t ask for this any more than i asked for asthma. We need to remember that. If we can do this we can decrease the high suicide rate in my opinion.

    I have GID and i am unofficially diagnosed by a psychiatrist since the insurance companies dont allow it in the DSM because there not enough research done on GID and honestly i dont experience much gender dysphoria at all unless i begin to integrate or take HRT(which i know i need to heal from GID) and associate with my actual gender. Other wise i mostly just suffer from dissociation similarly to people with DID and memory issues. Hopefully this will help people understand the difference between gender dysphoria and gender identity disorder because they are VERY different conditions to be diagnosed with. 🏥 I was hospitalized 16 times and put in a straight jacket & injected with medicine that made me unconscious at the beginning of my transition process but things have gotten better ober the past 12 years since then. ☺️🥳

    It’s funny how DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) is labeled as a mental illness but this isn’t. People with DID have many alters that are from one of the two genders and sometimes species. People with DID need help and most of them in fact do get help. How is this any different? You’re dissociating yourself from the truth.

  • @nitefox4411
    @nitefox4411 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    You are truly a human being as a doctor. Wow. So deep your compassion because of the suffering you have seen. I had to stop with lower surgery before I ended up with a permanent indwelling catheter... I had ten surgeries but it was time to stop... Was my need to stand at a urinal worth the consequence? I Paid for all of that myself and it drove me nuts to have a balance on my credit card because of "emergency" complications that required immediate costly intervention or I would have gone septic. NO REGRETS over 25 years now. I knew at 5 I would just fix it one day. I have never waivered. Wouldn't go back for all the gold on earth. You better believe I would have done the surgeries MYSELF if I could have. Weeds need to be pulled out by the roots. Transgendered and high functioning autistics are higher evolved than others. I have lived many years now. Something is to be said for how "suffering" turns people into better human beings. If they don't commit suicide from overwhelm or give into anger. My good mentor and friend Alecia Brevard did her own surgery with a knife on her kitchen table. Her book is so funny as she used "vet" materials to get the job done. I am a horrible skeptic about things in life and so are my parents...but my family knew this wasn't my fault and it wasn't their fault either. If "I" had not been the one to experience it first hand, "I" might have dismissed trans people as "mentally ill." There is a difference in someone who is mentally ill saying they are TS vs someone who is TS being classified as "mentally ill" strictly because of the trans issue. Anyone who judges us better "hope" there is not a God because judging people because of their gender diversity is not aware God allows such things to occur in nature. Medical science today can help us better fit into a surgically altered body and hormones allow us to experience life as we truly identity. I went through A LOT but it was nothing compared to Trans people in 3rd world countries. Look at how a country treats its LGBT people. It will give you an overall idea of just how wealthy or progressive and quality of life and living really is for the people of that country. Education or compassion is NOT generally something a 3rd world country has. Thank you doctor from one human being to another.

    Let’s make a comparison of this with body dismorphia. Both of the patients are obviously perceiving their body in an altered way, far different from reality. Both of em have that problem with their identity and how they are perceived. Isn’t this like incentivising those bigorexia guys to take more steroids and go deeper into their fake reality? I really have my compassions for those diseases but if I was a psychiatrist I wouldn’t treat it the way this gentleman does, I think it is even more cruel and it is just the “easier” path. People need to see reality and we should help them see that and try to make them self accepting and not enraged people with complete alternate realities. It probably is harder this way but it is the correct way to really solving the problem.
    We cannot ignore the problem and even worse legitimise the problem and propagate it. We are taking very bad steps for the future of our society and I hope there will be psychiatrists that really can treat the root of the problem for these people. Let’s wake up

    • @Frichilsasta08

      I don't think these are comparable. I don't think identity plays into body dysmorphia. Those that suffer from this are already in the appropriate body via gender. They have issues with their physical bodies (perpetually and irrationally feeling too small or too big) whereas gender dysphoria includes the physical and the mental. Those with gender dysphoria need the appropriate body first, and foremost, to feel less dysphoric and therefore, their mental health improves. With body dysmorphia, the battle of feeling as if in the incorrect body in regards to gender, isn't even an issue. Both struggle with body image, but trans face one more barrier in reaching a healthy state of mind.

      The reality is that my gender dysphoria symptoms are much improved thru my use of modern HRT therapy. The reality is that, after transitioning for almost two years, when I look in the mirror, my appearance matches who I actually see myself as. I tried psychotherapy in the past yet is was never effective. I don't see how psychotherapy alone could be as effective as HRT for easing my gender dysphoria.

    I take no issue with adults who have gender dysphoria. But hasn't our society gone over the top to affirm and "accept" to the detriment of children and their view of themselves? Totally get that they are people too, just would insist that children not be encouraged to choose their gender until they've at least reach the age of 18 or 21.

This talk is only affirming which certainly and quite rightly would not be the case with other types of dysphoria. People can't cure gender dysphoria for you. In your case, gender dysphoria is a result of some sort of trauma causing you to completely reject the male identity you used to have as a child. The only way for you to be mentally healthier is to work on yourself. You have to save your own self. It may sound harsh but it is true. If somebody were to try to save you, you would become dependant on them, and being dependant on a person is not healthy.

So I figured everything will be solved if I run away from these. Spoiler: it didn't work. After 5 years I snapped back to reality and I'm starting my healing process to accept myself and will untie all these negative associ cations
      And yeah telling someone who is so consumed by their belief it hurts to accept something you thought you could change, you can't actually change.

    There was a clinic (one of the earliest) that did talk therapy with youth and the majority (most) of the patients eventually decided they were their given gender. But then activists complained and the hospital didn’t want the heat because it was bad for business and so they hired people to spend a whole day creating a review containing tons of false information to get the clinic shut down. And that is disheartening. The patients and their families were overwhelmingly thankful for the help they received. But social justice warriors got it shut down. And the medical industry is taught to go along with it now. Big money maker for sure.

      This is untrue. Many of these so called "talk therapy" institutions have been shut down because they made a difficult situation worse for the patient. This kind of "therapy" is NOT therapeutic. It is dangerous and increases the already high risk of suicide in these folks. There is quite a bit of actual research at this point. Please read it.
