  • Norisring Germany - History & Layout Evolution
In this Circuits of the past video we tell you about the history and layout evolution of the Norisring, a street circuit in the German city Nuremberg.
The history of the Norisring in brief.
In the 1930's the ground of the Norisring was the so called Reichsparteitagsgelände where Hitler's NSDAP held their rallies. A big landmark from that time is the Zeppelintribüne (Zeppelin Grandstand).
After the war the ground is used as a street circuit, among others. The old grandstand for Hitler is now tha main grandstand for the street circuit.
They named the street circuit Norisring. Norisring comes from the Latin name for Nuremberg, Noris. This name was choosen because Nurembergring would cause confusion with the name of another German race track, the Nürburgring.
But many people outside of Germany call the Nürburgring the Nurembergring. According to legend, a Dutch motorcycle racer once traveled to Nuremberg to fill in for a race at the Nürburgring.
We made a funny video about more name confusions and urban legends in motorsport. You can watch it here: • Top 10 Urban Myths and...
Today the Norisring is most known for its DTM (German Touringcar Masters) and Formula 3 races.

An interesting history of a once dedicated Norisring racing circuit that has been partially incorporated into the local road system. Glad to see it's still used on occasion for racing and not totally abandoned. Thank you!

Ciao Herman, it's a good video and the fact that the name is confused with the Nurburgring I find funny. 👍

I miss mentioning Csaba Kesjár, but I understand he is only our hero in Hungary, he wasn't well known internationally as he passed away way too soon 😥
