I went to Caister back in the '80s. The North Sea is a little unforgiving though. I was really very young when I went to Porthcawl and don't remember it a huge mount. With all the expansions and revamping that has been going on since Covid popped up I imagine a lot of changes have been happening through the older parks so I guess they all deserve a revisit at some point
Another interesting and informative video, thanks Tim. Talking of buying a caravan / Park home. My late Father did excatly that. Back in the late nineties when he retired, he sold his house, paid off the small amount of remaining mortage and bought a Park home in Scarborough (He was from Nottingham, but loved Scarborough as he used to go sailing there as a younger man) He could only live in it 11 months of the year, and had to vacate it every February so as he had a decent lump sum left from the house sale he used to go to Cyprus or Italy for the month, sometimes even as long as three months of the British winter, and he managed to do this right up until he passed away in 2013 when the money had run out, so no inheritence for me!.....and that's how it should be, it was his money he'd worked hard for it at a manual job all his life and I'm glad he got to enjoy it in the twilight of his life.....Love the channel Tim, keep up the good work fella!
I think a problem is most holiday parks there is the pitch fee and a 10/12 year age limit on caravans, though you can relocate your caravan often to the "2nd tier" parks for a bit more lease of life, then sell off for use as say construction site huts or go kart track control units ! Some really old caravans if maintained can be quite retro.
lovely story, but as said caravans are almost a life style choice....not many people have 60k to drop on a trailer van so get credit so say £500 a month, Then site fees another £500 a month plus water gas and leccy........its a thing of the past of them being cheap.......its almost only the wealthy that can afford them now.....And if you sell it....bang 20% goes back to the park as well...Move site? another 20%. My mate had two on a site in kent and tried making it work with renting them out when he wasnt there etc.......HArd work for nothing......Summer time is ok but out of season its very hard to rent..... Its more of a thing for retired people to do wh0 have lump sums .....then you only have the 500 a month site fees which are more manageable....
Love Porthcawl ❤live 50 minutes away, the place is totally different to when I was a 8 year old 50 years ago when we had our family holiday in the Miners fortnight!
I used to go to Trecco bay as a kid in the ‘80s lol. In my aunties non electric caravan with paraffin lights and a shower block and getting water from a communal tap outside.
Went there the summer enjoyed it. For an evening the pubs were full of kids so I went to a nearby pub for few peaceful pints . The Ancient Briton is fully recommended, 5 minutes walk !
You're right about the walk after a drink and the showdome being far. And about a real struggle for a seat, thanks so much Tim, really enjoyed seeing the aerial views as well
My ex came from Porthcawl, his mum had a caravan on Trecco bay and we also rented a caravan for holidays. In December There is a rock stock bands event which sells out very quickly. Good memories.
Wow. This has blown my mind. The progress made there is amazing. Hard to equate that park today with the same park I visited as a kid, with gas lights in the caravans, buckets for toilets in the caravans, which had to be slopped out in the mornings, in the community washrooms/toilets and nightly entertainment being the Dirty Duck and the Jolly Sailor.
We would all meet up in porthcawl from the valleys. And end up drinking in the Log cabin went drinking in the nightclub next door cannot remember the name of it now. My two mates Carl Turner and Ceri James ended up so drunk they had to call an Ambulance. They were mad times but happy times would not have changed it for anything. When your young you do not have a care in the world. Thanks for all the fun and laughter boys. Miss you both. Mark Jones😂❤
Tim you can live in the modern day caravans permanently depending where you go and all modern caravans now come with full central heating as standard and usb ports
Visited there back in 1999 to 2002 with sun holidays with my parents and sisters. It’s changed so much but somethings I remember when I visited had amazing time
My neck of the woods Tim. Live about 20 miles away. I did not know all that stuff in the center existed. Used to be very run down and I think that is still reflected in the Coney Beach funfair at the entrance. The nearby town of Porthcawl remains a nice place to visit with decent shops, eateries and pubs. Many thanks.
Most of my childhood holidays were in a caravan. Used to go to South Denes caravan park in Lowestoft. Used to have gas lighting and lots of earwigs everywhere! Used to be fun though, there was a beach nearby, lovely gardens across the road and the Sparrows Nest Theatre as well as a bandstand which used to do talent comps in the summer for the kids......nightimes were walking from the site through the town and along the front for a back of chips and a play on the pennies, then back to the caravan for a cuppa and playing cards.....great days
My Granny had a little caravan at Trecco Bay when I was a child. The park wasn't so big and I think it was privately owned. Loved my holidays their. Porthcawl a lovely town if I remember correctly. Thanks for taking me back there.
Hi Tim. I remember caravans when I was a kid mostly you had to walk across to the showers or toilets in the morning or of a night. Nothing much like today's ones. The holiday park is too big I think you could easily get lost after you had a few drinks if you weren't careful.
Hi there Tim thankyou for your reply I went to Scarborough and stayed at the grand hotel I felt the room I stayed in had a plastic frame over the wall no window what's so ever i told them at reception and I could not get another room did not feel good by end of the week
Hi Tim we have been going to Trecco Bay for years from when our children were small. They are all grown up now and they go with their children. Absolutely love this place.
Caravans have changed..back in the 60s down Brean Somerset as a young lad our borrowed caravan had no running water or toilet.had gas mantle lights..had to collect water from a stand pipe.the caravan always had that damp /gas light smell but it was a great holiday..not sure I'd want to go back to it now..maybe for the old arcades and greasy fish and chips with scraps remember them?😀😀😀
One of my family members used to live in a caravan in Trecco Bay. She sold her bunglaow and bought 2 caravans, one for rental and one to live in. If I recall she used to live there 11 months of the year and had to go elsewhere for 1 month, usually she went overseas for a cheap holiday, I think it was to avoid council tax? The rental caravan income used to cover the annual fees for both caravans and pay for her yearly holiday.
Thank you for this, cannot believe how much this place has changed in 20 years staying twice when the kids were young Still one of my best parks in the UK and I have been to most of them.
Spent a week there in August and was impressed, did have some faults. Limited menu's in the restaurants, the show dome looks like a dump by the end of most nights as it gets rammed. Overall they do make far more effort than many other operators and the entertainments included some household names. Private renting is available and they will sell you 'access' to the facilities and entertainment for about £25 per person per week. We got the boy band '5' & Joe Pasqale, you might be luckier ;-)
I also spent my childhood on caravan holidays (and Butlins/Pontins!), so these types of videos give me a lot of nostalgia! I dont know who is buying a £65k caravan...?! The price on the window says £950 a month, then you'll need to pay for electric and gas bottles which will add at least another £50+. In contrast, I've just come back from 5 days in inclusive in Spain for £1050 for 2 people. I could do that holiday every month for 5 years, and still not spend as much as that caravan would cost me! People like different things of course, but I'm just not sure what the selling point is for a lot of people. Great video as always! :)
After a while this caravan is yours,so you can sell it back for at least half price as it will be still pretty new caravan after 3-5 years and your money for holiday wont get refunded right? you can even upgrade it and sell it for more so what kind of way of thinking is it,dont understand, like you said everyone likes something else. Hopefully that explained selling point at least one of few selling points :)
Sometimes people buy caravans & use them for their own family holidays & then let them to others the rest of the time, which probably pays for the caravan, so you would effectively be getting your holiday accommodation free. I think that is what people do to make the economics work out.
@@sarahstrong7174 yeah totally hadn't thought of that! Makes a bit more sense if you can make a bit of income to cover the cost, then have free holidays. Thanks 😀
@@klopotynajmana5987 yeah I can see the benefits there. Hadn't thought of those. I still think it's a lot of money, but others have mentioned renting it out when you're not there too, which is a good idea. Thanks 😀
Brilliant video , I used to go here when I was a child. And how it's changed is amazing. I actually want to revisit now. I would recommend you go to seal bay resort was bunn leisure in selsey. There is 3 holiday entertainment parks in one park. Xxx
Still the area around is a deprived part of wales and 7 years ago when I went it was very busy and a lot of rough people there, plus the pool is open to the public so you would que with 30 people for an hour to get 30 mins in the pool when I had paid £1100 for the week! I wouldn't go this site again!
Another great video - a nice holiday camp - love the investment into the undercover pavillion area. The upkeep on a facility of that size must be enormous.
Hello Tim, Haven't been to that place in years, there's some nice pubs in the area around Nottage. For those of a certain age, there used to be a couple of boozers on site, the Merry England and the Dirty Duck. The caravans used to be a bit basic and the ground used to be covered in sand and stones. 👍
I have really fond memories of caravan holidays. Not as nice as the one you looked at; it has those fitted sofas in a corner. It was lovely to take my own kids on a caravan holiday and they loved it! Haha.
Love Parkdean! Went to Grannies Heilan Hame in Dornoch (in the Scottish Highlands) a couple years back and it was beautiful! We live near Glasgow so wasn't too far to travel, maybe 6 hours with a decent break part way, and was pretty cheap too! 7 nights for 3 people and a dog for less than £400. Planning to go back a bit earlier in the season next time though as we went at the end of September and it was so bloody cold! Still went paddling in the north sea though. Was the dog's first time being on a beach and she loved it too!
I lived there as a kid in the 70’s (Porthcawl that is) and used to sell the South Wales Echo newspaper on that site on foot I used to shout Echo and people would come out of their caravans and buy from me, it was the biggest in Europe even back then. Miners fortnight when all the mines shut it got really busy. It had an outdoor pool and a huge complex. Great playground in the winter for us kids. Oh the memories.
i remember the little chappal from the 60s and 70s as a kid and we used to do sunday school when on hols as we had no tech toys in them days think we were a more church going generation nice to see that part of history is still there it is a good place to visit even has an elvis weekend well worth a visit for sure
massive park very nice, as you mentioned Tim for a park that size I would have thought the clubhouse would have been bigger, I've seen bigger on smaller parks👍
Stayed here a few times and agree you would think venues would be larger but I think a lot of the accommodation is owned and they have to pay extra if they want to use the facilities so a lot stay in the accommodation or use the beach or go in to Porthcawl, it's a good thing they do or the venues would be completely mobbed.
I'd love to see this Holiday Park in person. I can just imagine being with you Tim & everyone in the live chats & your followers! It would be a great place for everyone to just go & do what they like. I'd be on the Crazy Golf & watching your team Bowling ( I can't lift them heavy Bowls or Balls whatever they call them) But be fun to watch with a Malibu & Coke! I thought the whole Park & the Caravans looked very clean & welcoming! And the Park Homes looked very snug & luxurious & so many at 2,000 like a small Hamlet I bet everyone gets to know their Neighbours. Lovely & relaxing video took my mind off my troubles 🥰
Your only there for maybe a week or two so you don’t get too really know your neighbours or the neighbours you’ve just started chatting too upon your arrival their going home in two days so a few days later, they have gone and you’ve got a entirely new family in there. I suppose the caravan owners get too know each other as they spend months living in them out of season, but holiday makers are coming and going all the time. Stopped in Skegness caravan park last year, got chatting too the dad that evening seemed like a nice guy, went too bed on the night, by the time I woke up in the morning about 9am they had packed and left😂 by 1am another family was moving in. I thought I won’t make friends we we’ll be gone by the weekend ourselves😂
Taking into consideration that you have to pay a yearly site fee from around 3,000 pounds for holiday homes ( previously called caravans ) utilities, self catering, insurance, incidental costs ( draining the holiday home down for the winter ) Can you sub-let when you don't use the caravan? What are the restrictions ( if any ) Depreciation, Is it a 12/10 month park? Whatever it is, you cannot stay there for as long as you wish, it is not a residential park and therefore before you even think about investing in purchasing one, make sure you read the contract properly and if you are not sure, seek professional advice. By the way, that caravan you looked at is by far over priced. Great video as always Tim.
Also be aware of the age restriction of vans. Some parks dictate a maximum age before the van has to be removed. They do this to keep the place looking fresh rather than filled with old worn vans which also inflates sales.
Various pitfalls to buying a van and letting the parks hire it out, its very low risk for them. Friend of mine did it lost a packet didn't make much from the park they charge fees take no responsibility for damage, my friend had 5 weeks a year he would use it, said he didn't make much money back and the only people making money are the parks @@graememckay9972
be going there in November. havent stayed there before. after seeing this. the park looks better and now having more items to use, like the place that has more food stuff and places to play games.
Another great vlog, like a lot your videos I’m seeing these places for the first time, after showing this to my wife and kids we are now thinking of this for a 2023 break in summer
I’m guessing you missed the chapel at Butlins Minehead when you did your tour? It’s at the back near the east car park..I don’t think it’s used anymore tho?
It was great seeing this Tim, went there Whitsun week it was packed. Managed to get around most of the park on one of the Go-Karts, I can honestly say my legs were feeling it afterwards lol....😄😄
Talking about walking back from a few drinks to your caravan reminded me of a time at Marton Mere near Blackpool, only a small site but we were hopelessly lost leaving the entertainment some time after midnight. The security guard ended up driving us back to our caravan 😂
Wow, that was hooge! Like a small town. Just shows that when you own something, it is looked after better and stays looking nice. Some of my extended family are big caravaners (is that a word?) and they have ones like the one you featured, on a static site. It's a big part of their lives, and they love it. I however, remember the grot of the caravans we stayed in, in the 1970s, and it kind of never went away for me! Cheers, Tim, for another great vid.
Hey Tim! I love just around the corner from Trecco Bay and go there on days out back when I was a kid. If you're not a guest the only place you cannot access is the Hypodrome which is great! Happy to see the investment made, it desperately was needed!!
Hey Tim. Theres actually another caravan site on the East coast called Primrose Valley in Filey. I've been going there for 17 years now since it was a tiny park although it now has over 3000 caravans to my knowledge (Possibly the biggest caravan site in the UK. Even bigger then this one). Its a very beautiful park with a even more beautiful town nearby being Filey. Its absolutely HUGE too and takes forever to get from one end to another even in the car. Great video as always!
I went to Primrose Valley when I was younger with my parents and it was one of the best sites we have stayed on. Hiring the 4 person bike things and pedalling to the beach was great. I have to visit Primrose again!
A big thank you for visiting South Wales, Trecco Bay. The park is an eye-opening holiday park, Great vlog on the park. You were lucky with the weather, this weekend and the next week it's a mixture of good, bad and wet days. 00:10 It's surprising Trecco is only a 4-Star park and not like Vauxhall which is a 5-star park. 3:15 there is lodgers for a healthy price of 120K. 4:30 Did you get to do a fish and chip review and see the price? 6:25 there use to be indoor dodgems there once. 7:15 great wall display of Cardiff Castle and skyline of the city. 9:45 The Showdome did seats 1.200 people. There is a church in Butlins Minehead, thank you again for visiting South Wales, Trecco Bay. Have done any other vlog out and about South Wales, or will you surprise us?
You were there the same weekend as me, beginning of October, not september. They usually have lots of ballroom dancing. A very nice floor to dance on. The food used to be a lot better !
I loved this video! I only live 20/30 mins away on the m4 and wow I haven’t been for such a long time! This was one of my childhood places that we would visit for the day! However, it did need an update and I’m so glad that they have updated it! I definitely need to visit here again soon!
I once stayed in a log cabin that looked just like that Chapel, Tim. On a different note - You definitely need Google maps to negotiate your way around Trecco Bay. Great place and a great vid. 👍
Im amazed at the size of the Park, l went with my brother and sister in law,to a park it was just like this, you needed a map or app to find your way round, after 5 days you know where you are, Caravans have alovely fresh and woody smell especially the ones, dont like bumps in the road,l know they are meant to stop speedy ones, so much to do ,keep the little ones, and older ones Happy ,loved the site , great video as usual
Another good video by our esteemed friend, Tim. You can buy a mobile home, a lot of these mobile home parks are in Lancashire and Devon and Cornwall. Some attached to holiday parks. The only and rare times one sees them on TV they are floating down a river. This is often due to where they build these mobile homes. These mobile homes one can live in all year round. So council tax still applies, unlike holiday parks.
Hi Tim, We love your videos (a family of 3 from Liverpool - two 45 year olds and a 9 year old) - we even watch them on TH-cam on our big TV so you must be entertaining! This was the first video of yours we watched a couple of months ago as we had already booked a holiday at Trecco Bay so wanted to see what it was like. Since then, my 9 year old keeps putting your videos on and we have all ended up getting into them. I love your videos of unusual places like the hotel in a prison in Cornwall, the tiny sleep pod in Gatwick Airport, the overnight train to Scotland, the motorhome (I've always wanted to stay in one) and the 7 star hotel in Dubai. Keep up the great work! x

That place is huge! It could do with a few less mobiles and a lot more trees though. It looks a bit like a storage yard from a distance.

You are joking? If you call people leaving rubbish and used nappies in the club, smart?
Still the area around is a deprived part of wales and 7 years ago when I went it was very busy and a lot of rough people there, plus the pool is open to the public so you would que with 30 people for an hour to get 30 mins in the pool when I had paid £1100 for the week! I wouldn't go this site again!
That was a very interesting video . The caravans remind me of Richardsons caravans but a bit more classy, the whole area a superb really nice.
You can’t beat a good old UK caravan holiday.
Another great video - a nice holiday camp - love the investment into the undercover pavillion area. The upkeep on a facility of that size must be enormous.
Great video Tim looks a fantastic place to holiday the facilities look great too and very clean
Thanks Tim great video it looked nice , enjoyed that look forward to the next Yvonne 😊
Hello Tim,
Haven't been to that place in years, there's some nice pubs in the area around Nottage.
For those of a certain age, there used to be a couple of boozers on site, the Merry England and the Dirty Duck.
The caravans used to be a bit basic and the ground used to be covered in sand and stones. 👍
Very nice video Tim, great stuff👍👍👍😎
Thanks 👍
I have really fond memories of caravan holidays. Not as nice as the one you looked at; it has those fitted sofas in a corner. It was lovely to take my own kids on a caravan holiday and they loved it! Haha.
Hi Tim Don't forget the Chapel you seen on your recent visit to Butlins Minehead 😀
Just watched your vblog another good one Tim I love caravan parks this one looks good
In Northumberland, there’s 3 Parkdean parks within about 10 miles of each other.
2 of them are within 2 miles of my house.
Great Caravan park, looks lovely and clean, plenty to keep everyone amused,
Absolutely
Looks lovely, they've got lots to do on site.
Oh the memories.
i remember the little chappal from the 60s and 70s as a kid and we used to do sunday school when on hols as we had no tech toys in them days think we were a more church going generation nice to see that part of history is still there it is a good place to visit even has an elvis weekend well worth a visit for sure
massive park very nice, as you mentioned Tim for a park that size I would have thought the clubhouse would have been bigger, I've seen bigger on smaller parks👍
more folk seem to stay in and watch TV now.
Beautiful park! Defo better kept than alot you've shown us Tim !
A very good Saturday morning to you all from Wellington Somerset
Looked like a great place for a family holiday.
Hi Tim ! Wow what a huge park love a good holiday park. Thankyou for sharing with us. Love to you as always Tracey 💕 xxxx
@@matty6848 your right people must come & go all the time!
Beautiful caravans. I couldn’t live in one I wonder were you would put anything. The caravan Park is very impressive.
Another great vlog, like a lot your videos I’m seeing these places for the first time, after showing this to my wife and kids we are now thinking of this for a 2023 break in summer
I used to go on holiday alot here when I was younger and that central area is completely different now. Good to see the chapel still there haha
I’m guessing you missed the chapel at Butlins Minehead when you did your tour? It’s at the back near the east car park..I don’t think it’s used anymore tho?
I did
It was great seeing this Tim, went there Whitsun week it was packed. Managed to get around most of the park on one of the Go-Karts, I can honestly say my legs were feeling it afterwards lol....😄😄
lol
There is a chapel at Butlins Minehead amongst the silver apartments in Holnicote Village
Great video again Tim, It helps give people an idea of what they are looking for before they book, especially pontins😂
Yaaayyy!! You did it
Talking about walking back from a few drinks to your caravan reminded me of a time at Marton Mere near Blackpool, only a small site but we were hopelessly lost leaving the entertainment some time after midnight. The security guard ended up driving us back to our caravan 😂
lol
Defo trecco bay in South Wales, I can see my caravan 🤣🤣
👀😂
Absolutely fantastic place for the family
Lol
What a lovely place. Well worth a visit. Maybe next year, who knows. Thank you xx
you are welcome
Like the look of this park, wouldn't mind buying one of those static caravans.
Happy to see the investment made, it desperately was needed!!
thanks for the info
@@scottwojcik2148 absolutely! Some of my best memories too :D
Primrise valley was awesome when i was a child in the early 2000s
@@scottwojcik2148 yes those little self peddle Rickshaw types bikes. They’re great fun especially when you’ve got the four of you on them😂
Great Park Tim thanks for the intro.
Have done any other vlog out and about South Wales, or will you surprise us?
yes for Halloween :-)
I was brought up on Pontins. Wallpark, camber sands, Broadreads went a few years ago to Maidenhead Butlins wasn't overly impressed but was OK.
I've always wanted to live in one of them,so cosy and modern and everything at hand
Love the camp all the family love it off again for a week in in August Happy days x
Love it there..been there loads of times..lovely beach and area
Kids of today dont know how good they have it!!! What a park.
You were there the same weekend as me, beginning of October, not september. They usually have lots of ballroom dancing. A very nice floor to dance on. The food used to be a lot better !
Thank you for going to Trecco Tim!!
Any time!
There is a tiny little chapel at Minehead Butlins.
Keep up the great work! x
Loved this video will be looking to book there it was so good
