So refreshing to see someone who takes pride in their workmanship.!! Not enough of you around unfortunately. ! I’d much rather pay someone like you a bit more to get a great job done. You are a credit to your trade, keep up the great work.
I’m a 63 year old builder myself and see a lot of crap work these days, everyone seems more interested in speed and as much money as possible and not quality workmanship, it’s so good to see 2 young lads putting so much care and passion into their work, well done to both of you you are an incredible team and do a really first class job 👍
Hi Izzy great workmanship you are about the only brickie who spreads a mortar bed the proper way enough for a joint keep going don't over do it like me
It's why a lot of people turn to DIY, faith in the trades has disappeared. Doesn't help that the last decade or more there has been a lot of stigma about going into the trades from families etc.
This job is the customers fault he has gone cheap. This lad said he gave a rake out price and they didn’t want to pay it went cheap and they haven’t completely removed the mortar , didn’t grind out the arch and cut into the bricks ! Should of paid this lad to do the whole job .
Great to see a job done so well and with attention to detail, and I hope the customers know how lucky they are to have found you! I have found that the small amount of extra attention to detail is always appreciated by the customers, and further work almost inevitably follows. Important too to walk the customer round and explain the defects and how you will address them - get them invested in the pride you feel at the end of the job😊
You guys are amazing! Really puts your faith back in humanity and an industry which can be hit and miss in terms of decent professionals. You guys are to be admired and imitated. Keep doing your thing and setting the example for everyone else!
Great to see you guys back with such an outstanding looking job. It amazes me that such a relatively straightforward job can be messed up by the so called “professionals”. There’s very little pride taken in workmanship these days, all these guys want to do is finish the job any way they can as soon as possible.
Well done guys for stepping in and sorting that out not enough good proper tradesmen out there today hope your client appreciated what you did for them job looked fantastic keep the videos coming.👍👍
Best to take a break every now and then, got to enjoy what you’re doing or there’s no point. That being said, great to see a new video, always a good watch - thanks Izzy.
Lovely job....looks superb....note to all, if using Boiled Linseed Oil, DON'T throw your dirty oiled rags into an enclosed container such as a bin or bin bag....BLO oxidises as it dries/sets and this generates huge amounts of heat which will very quickly set fire to anything in contact with it! Lot's of terracotta tile guys have been caught out with this one....Burn, wash or leave rags to dry in the open air before disposing of them....
Very good point, I used the same to restore a banister in my old house and it's very easy to just chuck the used rags in a bag and forget about them. They can and do have the potential to spontaneously combust.
i dont normally comment much on videos but what you have done here is nothing short of a miracle. quality work lads. talk about polishing turds. top job lads
After all the drama and bad work they've had done it must of been such a relief to have you and Drew in to rectify there home and even go the extra mile to make it look the best you could . So many tradesmen out there nowadays willing to rip people off and leave homeowners with a nightmare knowing they caused a misery and extra money needed to be spent
Izzy, good work man! Fellow brick restorationist here from MT, U.S. That was a pretty rowdy cut out and repoint you had to follow up on. It's a shame there aren't enough of us with experience to cover all the jobs and so let the fly by nighter's do a shit job. That "weather edge" and the overgrinds you patched up was pretty egregious. Good job explaining appropriate mortar hardness and compatibility too. I follow up a lot of "repair" where the harder new mortar ends up being a disservice to the wall after a few years. I also learned a new trick with the linseed oil treatment.... I have a tool suggestion: Arbortech 175 brick saw has paid for itself thrice-over for those brick removals. They are about $1900 U.S.D. but are worth every penny, especiallly if you are cutting out old soft lime mortar or need to plunge cut your heads to extract a full brick. Keep up the good work, I really enjoyed the video. Thanks.
Thanks so much for the support mate really appreciate it! I love these sort of jobs, real sense of pride in them! Thanks for the tip on the tool! I'll have a look into them mate!
Isnt it funny how they got cowboys to repoint, then cowboys to rake it all out 😁 However what a fantastic job Izzy & Drew, you could build a house for me anytime 👍 Congratulations Izzy you are in a league of your own 👍
Fantastic job! So nice to see someone taking pride in their work and respecting and appreciating the beauty of brickwork. Such a pity people often abuse beautiful brick walls by drilling holes and draping cables everywhere! Nice one! 👍
@@richmarsh5029 The country is has changed and not for the better unfortunately, look at all the cheap work with poor standards that we have allowed over here to screw folk like us
Excellent workmanship!! The work ethic you guys showed was fantastic. Never let your standards drop. You are a credit to the trade and your workmanship is a credit to you.
Pride before money!! These two bring a whole new meaning to the word 'Tradesman, dedication, technique, skill and honesty, what more does one want from a builder, as for the 'cowboys' out there, time to get on your horses and ride off into the sunset!! First-class job, lads...
Fantastic finish really well done And you have such a good attitude it makes all the difference thankyou for being so genuine and passionate for others ❤
Izzy is an artist! Superb work, taking other people's shoddy work (and going the extra mile blending in those score marks) I'm no bricky or builder but my god, I see crap raking out and repointing work all over the shop, and don't get me started on overshooting the perps...... Great work.
A job well done lads, and this is why you will get repeat custom! There's a chap in North Manchester who does repointing. I've seen his work and I recommend him because he does an spectacular job! He even does coloured pointing, a customer had bright white and the effect was superb!
Nice one izzy good job although I would only keep pre mixed nhl for 24 hours its the water that makes it goes off, lime putty and slaked lime goes off with air and can be kept for weeks
Literally all the stuff I get from clients. Come in and quote, they go for the £50-£100 cheaper option then end up calling me to sort it as they know I will do a good job. Glad to see that there are still some people out there with integrity. Awesome work.
Great to see you and Drew back on the job 👌it’s a shame you didn’t get the job for replacing those shite cotswoldy bricks someone put in when removing that door and window .
You get what you pay for........ Or at least you used too. It is a shame that people get ripped off by tossers. It's becoming more common as even the cowboys are busy these days. But this client seems to ask for it. They had a bloody good trades man give a price but went and got another shit one, still leaving work to be done. Good work as always 👍
Refreshing to see younger trades that know the difference between cement and lime and the correct application of each. Clearly switched on and considering the state of the grinding out, a decent finish.
I specalise in lime mortars and I have to say you have done a great job. I hope you don't mind me mentioning that your 3.5 NHL can be reused the following day, but not more than that because is will set in water due to the hydraulic component. Air lime (putty non hydraulic) can be kept for years when wet.
I'm a plumber and last week I had to refit a bath which had been installed completely wrong. Like the pointing you had to remove - its harder to repair work done badly than to do it right in the first place!
You didn’t say if you were charging for the prep work you had to do? The client has already paid cheap once and then they do it again and get another substandard job.
I came across this video and thought I would leave a comment. Great to see a tradesman actually care about the work they do and care about their clients rather than rip customers off like the cowboys did that did the shoddy job of the pointing before you guys sorted it out. Well done and can I ask where you are based and areas you cover? A job well done.
Izzy, you’ve done a top job that takes knowledge, patience and skill. Now if I was you I would work on honing your customer relation & business skills i.e making sure you get paid for every bit of effort / extra work. Don’t let the option be that a different contractor prep your work because they are cheaper. Be tough on yourself in business skills the way I’m sure your tough on yourself with your standards of trade skills. The customer relations and business skills take just as much time to hone as the trade skills, often making mistakes alone the way and learning as you go. People (customer) pleasing all the time can wear a tradesman down quicker than loading out a house full of bricks. Stay strong and stay well. All the best.
👍 good to see you back Izzy, mate you're becoming the one to watch. Keep up the good work. Should have asked for extra for repairing bricks you never raked out.
Fair play to you izzy. I’m a bricky and I literally hate fixing other peoples work.! I work in a 3-1 gang and I don’t even like the other guys joining my work… or vice versa.
What a fantastic job. That concrete mortar traps the moisture in but black mould can not survive on Salt water and any water going through bricks has salt in it. Probably the wet wall has made it the coldest point in the home and any internal moisture (condensation) is heading straight to that wall once the dew point is met, and can not get escape encouraging mould. I have an internal wall on a 18th century farm house that in the 60/70's concrete rendered and I have the same problem with condensation being drawn to the coldest point in the house. Again great job lads, and such pride in quality.
Awesome work! You popped up in my suggestions and have gained a sub. Quick question, why offer two prices? Surely it would have made more sense for one price which would then remove you having to rely on another tradesman's work before you can start the pointing. I work as a landscaper and have had several jobs in the past where clients want to use alternative companies for 'parts' of a job. I refuse as I cant be sure of the standard and ultimately the job has my name above it. Ill either subcontract directly or turn down the job.
Good question, they asked for two prices, so to be fair, I was quite honest and gave it to them But you're very right what your saying mate! Thanks so much for subbing
I'm not sure how this ended up in my recs, but what a great video :) It's great to see someone take so much pride in their work. And a really nice-looking result too !
wow wow wow!! You lads should be very proud of yourselves!! This is by far the best video i've ever seen on you tube involving pride and passion in your work!! 👏🏼👏🏼 That customer in your video must be thanking the gods that they have found you! You lads sound local to me! North Nottinghamshire.. Could you come round and brick our outside side door up? Door has already come out and inside has been blocked up! I even have the bricks ready. All i need is your expertise and the lime mix mortar and sand. We are in Ravenshead 😊
Thanks mate! I sent you an email last night with some pics attached. We've had a cowboy 🤠 come round and tooth out and started to lay several courses of bricks until rain stopped play thankfully! Anyway i've told him i'm not happy with his work and not to come back! He's not even made any effort to match the existing mortar and looks terrible 😞
Izzy and Drew. Heroes! Good to have you back! OMG! You get what you pay for! Cowboys! And dangerous cowboys at that. The mould internally! Terrible. Using the right materials and products vital. Not least on 50s, 60s buildings. How do these guys get away with it? Oh and please!! Protective eyewear! Any acid!! 🥹🥹. Thank You Both. And you are back!! 👍👍💪💪👌👌
I know nothing about building, but you really impressed me with your attention to detail. I wish you lived in Cornwall, I need some repointing doing lol
i got that engrossed in this video i lost my sh@t when advert came up and pretty sure iforgot to breathe lmao. Thats what its all abart' 😂 doing a job doing it well but loving the job your doing. Miss watching my lad with his bmx building that became plastering/rendering. tongue out for concentration purposes 😉 enthusiasm on face and the little dance they dont know they do ❤ . wasnt expecting that. been through alot of videos over few weeks having to reteach myself few things its been 20yrs since i built layed or drew up anything without my grandad hovering with a clipboard. #gbnf i gota rebuild what useless team of 6 builders "repaired" before its all just brick dust and rotten mdf lol. without my grandad saying..you know you can do it. dint think. do god im old lol. anyway. made my genuinely happy inside for first time in years. nice one lads xx my lads 27 na lmao
Fair play, you put a lot of ‘time-served’ trades to shame. You know exactly what you’re doing and you’re happy (and able) to explain it. The homeowners are lucky to have you on the job fella. When I told the guys who repointed our house (LBC rustic antique) that I wanted lime (to match existing) they told me they never used lime; only sand and cement. I insisted and they left me a shit load of making good - raking it out of the comb, knocking back the joints and cleaning up the mess. Jokers, but they claimed to know exactly what they were doing and got angry when questioned.
Find a lot of those nhl limes to be a bit hard setting and seem to dry to quickly great for building with but I would be hesitant to use 3.5 on softer stone/bricks
The big problem is that most customers do not want to spend the money, bearing in mind rpointing is not a labour of love and is just labour intensive but the customer just views it as budget job and goes for the cheapest.
Such a shame they didn’t get you to do all the rectification work, having to correct all the mistakes and damage you’ve probably spent longer on it than if you did the scraping out in the first place. Great work!
I used to do a lot of pointing , £25 a square yard grind out & re-point , supplied my own scaffold also ,Don't know what your total per mtr was but you must make very good money, i actually really liked pointing
Nice to see someone with passion in their job with a top quality finish yous two are a credit to the game 👍… by the way what bond is that I personally thought it’s 3 brick monk bond?
Well done guys you've done a really nice job 👏 as a recently retired contract manager, and please don't take this the wrong way as I'm only concerned for your health as you're both very young. You need to get a new scaffold contractor as that scaffold is really unsafe. Should have another lift as hop ups are a no no, open ends on the platform, and to much of a gap between the lift and the brickwork, and that's only what I can from the video. As I say, please don't take this as a criticism. I'm always concerned about people's safety. Keep going like this, and you'll do really well and looking forward to watching more of your videos 😂
Pay cheap, pay twice. Tough lesson for your client. You guys did a top job. Well done.

Anyway i've told him i'm not happy with his work and not to come back! He's not even made any effort to match the existing mortar and looks terrible 😞
Well done,what a good job you've done.
Nice to see someone whose dedicated to his trade.👍👍
Cheers brother
Izzy and Drew. Heroes! Good to have you back! OMG! You get what you pay for! Cowboys! And dangerous cowboys at that. The mould internally! Terrible. Using the right materials and products vital. Not least on 50s, 60s buildings. How do these guys get away with it? Oh and please!! Protective eyewear! Any acid!! 🥹🥹. Thank You Both. And you are back!! 👍👍💪💪👌👌
Thanks so much mate, really appreciate your support 🙂 happy you enjoyed the video
I know nothing about building, but you really impressed me with your attention to detail. I wish you lived in Cornwall, I need some repointing doing lol

My grandad used to say a bad word travels quicker than a good, but a good word is worth a 1000 bad, so always do right
Good job boys Beautiful done nice to see you again ,😀😀😀 .

Great video & even better work:). It’s nice to see some good trades for once!!!
Thanks so much mate
Great see someone take pride there job great video 👍
Another tip. Have two inner boards on your scaffold. Much easier.
Good to see you back Izzy 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Cheers buddy!
Really impressed with your work, top job,you should be proud off yourselfs
Thanks so much mate, Merry Christmas and have a great New Year
Fair play, you put a lot of ‘time-served’ trades to shame.
Thanks so much mate really appreciate the kind comment and support 💪 shame that people are out there doing this to people 😞
Great professional job.Done with integrity !
Thanks mate!☺️
And that is why you always use proven people even if they are a bit more expensive as it will save you loads in the long run
Amazing transformation
Brilliant work Izzy ❤
Cheers mate
Fantastic work and improvement - be proud
Find a lot of those nhl limes to be a bit hard setting and seem to dry to quickly great for building with but I would be hesitant to use 3.5 on softer stone/bricks
The big problem is that most customers do not want to spend the money, bearing in mind rpointing is not a labour of love and is just labour intensive but the customer just views it as budget job and goes for the cheapest.
You’ve really got the short straw lol 😂 been double lassooed 😅😅😅 yeeeeha 🤠
Haha cheers mate
@@IzzytheBricky it’s when they go for a cheaper quote . It ends up taking longer the second time haha 😂
Such a shame they didn’t get you to do all the rectification work, having to correct all the mistakes and damage you’ve probably spent longer on it than if you did the scraping out in the first place. Great work!
Great job fellas
Great work. Is he buffing the brickwork up at the end ( linseed oil ) with a sock? 😂
Nightmare boys! good on yah for sorting it out tidy
Cheers mate
Great quality with pride
That looks spot-on 💪🏼
I used to do a lot of pointing , £25 a square yard grind out & re-point , supplied my own scaffold also ,Don't know what your total per mtr was but you must make very good money, i actually really liked pointing
Nice to see someone with passion in their job with a top quality finish yous two are a credit to the game 👍… by the way what bond is that I personally thought it’s 3 brick monk bond?
@@johngarthwaite4051 hiya mate think it's some variation of monk bond...who knows 😂
