Out of respect for Kevin Conroy Mark Hamill has vowed to never voice the Joker ever again. Now that Arleen Sorkin has passed away it seems Mark Hamill has absolutely no incentive to return to Gotham City. Perhaps it’s best this way. Other actors have voiced the Joker over the years. The future belongs to them.

I remember seeing the episode where Joker throws Harley out the window, and I was too young to understand abuse, so I thought, "oh, he betrayed her, she's gonna leave now and go on her own" but then I got to the hospital scene, where she comes back to him and it broke me as much as a cartoon can at that age.
I always liked that they gave Harley a moderately happy ending depicted at the end of Return of the Joker. After Joker's death she regained her sanity and went on to have a normal enough life even though her granddaughters carried on her legacy against her wishes.
I would love to see what she did in that time lol
Always loved Arleen the most in the role.
Many others play the role well but Arleen was my favorite.
Her voice is better than perfect for the character even if it wasn't pretty much her as a cartoon character that bubbly voice is perfect along side the Joker or on her own

This was great, Vee. I actually grew up watching Arleen on Days and I always thought it was cool that the show spawned the actors that played two of my favorite characters, Harley and John De Lancie as Q in Star Trek. Their scenes together on Days were legendary and far above what you’d expect on a daytime soap. Both were comedic geniuses and together they created some really funny moments together. That they’d later both be the originators to two epic characters was very satisfying for someone who both loved seeing them together on Days, but knew they belonged doing bigger and better things.
Great job honoring Arleen and her legacy.

As someone who loves Harley (especially Arleen Sorkin's Harley), I just wanna say that knowing Harley's accent and overall voice was just Arleen's natural speaking voice makes me despise the notion that Harley's voice was just an act she puts on around Joker. I've seen a couple appearances of Harley that kinda push that notion and it always left a sour taste in my mouth and rubbed me the wrong way in a manner that I never put into words until 2 minutes into this video.
Honestly, I actually really like that interpretation because it's impossible for any other actress to fully recapture Arleen Sorkin's voice. Some have come very close but there's a unique element that only she could deliver. Rewriting Harley as putting on a voice for the Joker doesn't feel like an insult or critique of her performance. To me, it feels like a compliment, as though everybody who knows anything about Harley Quinn acknowledges that Arleen Sorkin is the undisputed GOAT with a voice that nobody else will ever match. Harley HAD to change in order to give other actresses a chance of delivering authentic performances instead of just doing repeated imitations.
Arleen, you will ALWAYS be our Puddin. Rest Easy, Angel. We'll miss you. 😪❤️🖤❤️🖤

I thought the James Gunn movie got her best.

I rememeber once in the early 2000s, I was told to choose between two dolls. One was Batgirl and the other was this weird clown looking thing that terrified me for years to come.
It's funny now that the weird looking clown is my favorite DC character to date.

Without Arleen Sorkin, we would be without such a wonderful character that's gone beyond what she started out as. The Animated Series truly could be considered as the "definitive" adapation of Batman... Is to me anyway!

I love Harley Quinn so much and Arleen Sorkin played a huge role in my love for her. As you said the role was built for Arleen, I loved that while she worked for one of the most evil villains out there, she wasn’t evil. She was a victim to the Joker on the same level as the civilians he attacked. So it is more satisfying in more modern stories that Harley is able to move beyond the Joker and be her own woman. Without Arleen Sorkin we wouldn’t have a character like Harley Quinn.

Arleen is absolutely my favorite voice actor of Harley Quinn she was so rad and funny honestly.
Thank you for making this video. I was terribly sad when the news broke and its very important to talk about Arleen and her Harley because without her there would be no Harley at all. I love Tara Strong and I get that she is great Harley i can't Say that about Kayley Cuoco's Harley. She may be a good Harleen but not a good Harley. Arleen is a milestone, it's thanks to her that Harley Quinn even exists. Arleen is my Harley. She just had that charm that even when she was doing something heinous you couldn't help but stay by her side. And not only she made her funny but also someone tridimensional. So thanks Arleen Sorkin and thank you for your amazing work.
Arleen Sorkin set the bar so high that nobody could surpass her. Even if they're on the same level in terms of vocal range, she still had one crucial advantage that's impossible to overcome. Arleen Sorkin's approach to playing Harley Quinn was to just be herself. She was barely acting, which created a one of a kind facet to her performances. If you're just being you, there will always be unique nuances that nobody, no matter how talented, can fully understand or recapture.
With all that said, the most worthy successor Arleen Sorkin has ever had is Kaley Cuoco. And it's partially because she DOESN'T just try to do a direct imitation like most other actresses do. Her performance is smarter than that because her Harley had a habit of putting on a voice for the Joker, something that was hinted at in Seasons 1 and 2 and confirmed in Season 3. This allowed Kaley to occasionally slip back into Arleen's voice, usually when she was interacting with Joker, without limiting her vocal range by forcing her to try and mimic Arleen all the time. It helped make her Harley by far the most multifaceted onscreen incarnation since Batman: The Animated Series. And, from a subjective point of view, I actually like Kayley's Harley Quinn even more despite knowing there's a special je ne sais quoi that only Arleen could deliver.

Something I hate about most portrayals of Harley Quinn after Arileen, is how everyone portrays her as an airhead who is just a bit wacky. I feel it totally misses the point of the actual character. Very few people portrays the tragedy, the intelligence, and the childlike wonder that Airleen did.
It was weird, I knew that Callapy was Harley right away. Too much watching soaps with my mom and watching cartoons in college. R.I.P. Ms Sorkin. I'm sorry if I misspelled any of this. 🤡😢
The funny thing about DCAU Harley Quinn she actually got a little bit of a happy ending, I liked to believe that after Tim Drake killed the Joker she eventually got together with Ivy, became a reformed criminal, eventually married Ivy, decide to adopt children, and then eventually died happy in Ivy arms. RIP Arleen Sorkin.
Arleen Sorkin as Harley Quinn was the very first comic book character I remember seeing in my life at the age of barely five as she was the very first character introduced in the World's Finest movie (other than the shop owner they rob) from Superman The Animated Series which was my very first exposure to anything comic book related as a whole. I can hardly begin to comprehend that we lost Kevin not too long ago and now we've lost another legend. Many people played Harley Quinn since Arleen like Tara Strong, Margot Robbie, Kaley Cuoco (I really like the Harley Quinn show although the comedy I think has become a bit too repetitive and a bit predictable but I don't terribly like Kaley's voice for the character) and Hynden Walch who is my personal second favourite after Arleen but Arleen IS Harley Quinn and always will be. I basically grew up always with Arleen's voice always close by and similar with Kevin now that she's gone it's like a part of me has died too. May she rest in peace.

Aww yes the classic Harley I grew up with! Much prefer this version than the modren sexualised version these days.
I still remember finding out that Asylum was to be her last role as Harley way back when the Arkham series wasn't a series, man was that depressing. As you put it, she'll always be THE Harley because she WAS Harley. I hate what the character has become in the years since her departure from the role, and equally hate how they perversed her friendship with Ivy. You put their relationship perfectly, and it hurts my head that anyone would want to alter it, especially for lesbian/bi points. RIP Arleen, your Harley is and will always be one of my favourite DC characters.
Arleen Sorkin was indeed no doubt about the best Harley Quinn.....even Tara Strong who now days is the one people think when it comes to Harley, is doing all in her power to MATCH Arleen performance not adding anything of her.....and you can see pretty much everyone have done the SAME, to lesser and lesser degree of success, I can't say there have been an awful version of Harley I couldn't stand, all other actress have manage to keep Harley personality intact, but really all new we see of Harley in new versions is maybe look and designs, and just make her more of a good guy than a villain, and now is kinda boring to watch new Harley Quinn's versions because non of them really try to do something really FRESH with the idea of Harley Quinn, everyone just try to replicate Arleen and is because she was just PERFECT, she already perfected the role, there is kinda nothing to do with Harley other than make her ally or have new love interest and explore that and even that I think Arleen did better than anyone.

I will admit much as I do like Arleen's performance and yes it is because of her we have the actual character of Harley Quinn... I wouldn't personally toss around best and honestly I don't think I can even say she was the definitive because... quite frankly the character has evolved and become so much more over the years that Arleen ddin't really cover. I mean he pointed out how regardless of whether it was because of lack of continuity or because of just the idea of toxic relationships that Harley winds up back with Joker over and over again but I don't know to me the definite modern Harley that's been properly represented more in the last 10 years has fully left the Joker to strike out on her own adventures. The comics, the movies and yeah even outside the Harley Quinn show we've seen examples of that but it's an aspect that Arleen never really played. Likely because those ideas and that concept of the character weren't ever given to her when she worked on the show but yeah are an important part of the character so if a performance doesn't have them I can't call it definifeve.
