I was trying my best to see the bright spots to this movie until the "That's why every Poison Ivy action figure comes complete with him!" line. I just... nah. Nah, I gave up at that moment.
I've thought a lot about what I would have done had I been in charge of the Batman features from 1989 on. There are many, many things I would have done differently but the most relevant to this video is I would have cut Bane at concept and just gone with Mr Freeze and Poison Ivy, played by Patrick Stewart and Julia Roberts. They were the obvious choices and they would have suffered if they had to share the screen with a superfluous third villain, which is what happened here
I actually think the worst portrayal of a Batman villain is black mask in birds of pray. I’ve never seen a villain handled so poorly then how black mask was handled in that movie. Second worst is calendar man in suicide squad he was an actual joke in that movie.
Batman & Robin had a TON of issues. not only with their version of Bane... remember Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr Freeze? LOL there's enough terrible content in that movie to cover, I'm sure someone has a 30 minute video on all the wacky fails in that movie.
Other than the sad fact that playing Bane in this 'poor-excuse' of a superhero movie is that this was Jeep Swenson's final film role before he passed away, I was told that he looked the part. However, I would say that if the Batman films of the 1990s were made better, I would have cast Jeep Swenson (RIP) for the role of Solomon Grundy.
I thought this Bane was more dangerous if you catch the dialogue between Bruce and Dick they talk about when Bane and Poison Ivy first arrive at Gotham airport ten security guards attack Bane who then puts all those security guards into intensive care
I didn't realse Bane was canonical villain when the film came out. Years later i found out that Bane had been in a film, it was news to me. Such a nothing role.
I'm pretty sure that Schwarzenegger was cast as Mr. Freeze because of his accent. It's clear from his design and writing that Schumacher was trying to ape Otto Preminger's performance in Batman '66, and Arnie had the accent to half-arse the heck out of it.
When they said Bane was going to be the main villain of Dark Knight Rises, I was like '...really?' That's because my only frame of reference for him at the time was this movie lol.
My sister dated a dude working at a video rental place back in the day and he got me that same poster and the demo vhs for store use only of Little Nicky. I thought both were cool as hell
“A laundry service that delivers. Wow.” Even if it’s ironic enjoyment, I kind of love Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Mr. freeze. It’s just the right level of cringe worthy comedy for me.
Uma Thurman was so fine, in this movie lol.. On another note, Bane (appearance-wise) was spot on, you need a pro-wrestler to match the imposing look of Bane, he has to be bigger & taller than the average man.. But they made this Bane into a big dummy & I was very disappointed cause Bane is my favorite Batman villain..
At this point I don't think that WB/DC will even attempt at Bane a third time, even with James Gunn more "comic book accuracy", which is a shame, but I'm willing to take this back if they do manage a Bane in the future (I am however pissed at the fact that we won't get Batista as Bane, which again, shame)
This makes me appreciate the dark knight rises version of bane so much more. That version wasn't perfect but at least he still felt sort of true to his character
I think it's more than some. The fact that they changed Barbara to be Alfred's niece rather than Gordon's daughter is the dumbest thing. Change just for the change is entirely pointless. Another really dumb is that traditionally Barbara keeps her identity secret even from Batman and Robin but literally the first this she does as Batgirl is reveal her secret identity. Also there's technically TWO actors who portrayed Bane in this movie and neither one of them were credited. Most of Bane's appearances were the larger drugged up version you mentioned in the video however there was another actor who had all of 2 scenes as Bane. The very first appearance of Bane was a much smaller skinny man who gets replaced by the wrestler only after the mad scientist dude injects him with Venom for the first time. He shows up again later in the movie when the tubes continuing to inject Venom into his body are cut. Michael Reid MacKay is the actor who plays Antonio Diego which is a name that's literally only spoken in the movie once by the mad scientist before reintroducing him as Bane. I don't blame you if you forgot that Bane actually had another name in that movie since it's very forgettable. Anyway, I don't think there is a good live action depiction of Bane at all. There's only been 2 versions of him and you actually have to combine those two versions in order to get one that works. This Bane LOOKS more accurate to the comics while the Dark Knight Rises version is totally unrecognizable as the character. They just randomly changed his design for no good reason. Supposedly it was to make him more realistic except the original design is base on a Mexican Luchador which is already a real thing and the Venom is actually a somewhat fictionalized version of steroids which are also a very real thing. They did exaggerate the effects for Venom and obviously changed the name. Dark Knight Rises wears a mask that's not based on anything and instead of being on drugs that make him stronger, he's on some kind of pain killers that are fed to him through the mask and would instantly stop working if he took the mask off which is also not a real thing. How can they claim to change him to make him more realistic when they took away things that were already based on real world things and replaces them with things that were entirely made up for the movie. My complaints about Dark Knight Rises Bane looks aside, the actual portrayal of the character is much closer to the comic book version with Bane actually being an intelligent character rather than a big dumb idiot. You have to combine the looks of the Batman and Robin version with the portrayal of the Dark Knight Rises version to get an actually good movie Bane. That said I'd much rather have a great portrayal with a terrible design than a great design with a terrible portrayal. So I prefer Dark Knight Rises despite how much I hate his appearance. I'm a little hesitant to actually call Bane the worst Big Screen Batman Villain though. There have been others who are much worse. Catwoman from the movie Catwoman which didn't even have anything to do with Batman... and despite her being the main character really didn't have anything to do with Catwoman either. The portrayal was wrong, the costume was wrong, the story was pretty much non-existent, it was just an excuse to put an attractive woman in a skimpy costume. The only some what interesting thing about the movie is that it kind of explains away the 3 different Catwomen from the Adam West series but the movie also takes itself way too seriously to fit in with that continuity. But yes the plot is so non-existent I remember watching it for the first time, the credits were still rolling and I was sitting there still wandering what the story was. I honestly had no clue who any of the characters were, what their motivations where, why they were fighting each other, I had no freaking what was happening the entire movie. I'd also put Scarecrow as a terrible big screen Batman villain. Johnathan Crang was actually in all three of the Christopher Nolan movies but there are so few scenes of the character that people still forget he existed at all. He played a major role in the first movie with the majority of his appearances being from Batman Begins. Even there though he's more of a plot device than an actual character. Ras Al Ghul is the one who ultimately uses his fear gas and that's really the only reason he was in the movie. I say he played a major role but his role was as a plot device so that Ras could obtain the Fear Gas. In the sequel he has except ONE SCENE where he's for some reason riding a horse and is immediately arrested. Where did he even get a horse in the middle of a large city? In the last movie he has exactly one scene where he doesn't even wear the Scarecrow mask. It's after Bane takes over the city and releases all the prisoners. Johnathan Crang put's the city's police on trial and banishes them to the ice covered waters outside the city. There's been several videos I've seen playing that scene who didn't even realize that guy was Scarecrow because that's how little of an impression he left that people don't recognize him after three movies as the same character. This guy is so bad a villain I wouldn't just call him the worst big villain but actually the worst Batman villain EVER! And Scarecrow, when he's done correctly, should not be forgettable. This is a character who should always make a lasting impression every time he's on screen. There are episodes of Batman the Animated Series where he's only a cameo that left more of a lasting impression than the movie version. Say what you want about Batman and Robin Bane being forgettable but we actually remember him enough to talk about him. When have you ever heard anyone talking about live action Scarecrow? Other than me. I'm pretty sure I'm the only person who remembers he exists.
Ironically, there’s are 2 Batman villains who would have fit the role Bane had in this movie perfectly, 2 brutes who are pure muscle without much brains, Amygdala and Blockbuster. Using either of them would have been fine and brought more attention to lesser known Batman villains
Elle Macpherson was a very famous supermodel, that’s why they put her name on the poster even though she’s hardly in the movie. It’s a celebrity cameo, not an actress in a small part.
It's funny that you mentioned that. Back in 97, my gym teacher took his class to see the movie, and I asked him, "Was Bane in the movie? Someone said he was." My gym teacher said, "His name was Vein, because of the vein in his arms" (or something like that). A while later, I was able to prove him wrong, but he didn't care, lol.
@@Thatguyyoudontknow594 In a way (especially for this movie) it would almost make sense. Thankfully I believed his name was always Bane, and when the BTAS episode Bane aired some time later, that was when I knew I was always right.

I will compliment the mask and them having bane played by a muscled up wrestler was great but everything else you could have just had solomon Grundy and it would be the same except for how they beat him. One thing though is looking at that figure the figure has a great design and had plant extending his arm which makes me want this team up in the comics. Have bane be very plant like with how he was so green in the movie and give him something like that plant claw. That way you have poison ivy causinf havoc from afar with her plants and commanding them while bane is up close and he is more of a weapon due to the plants. I think having comics bane with poison ivy helping enhance him even more would be a great duo threat
The depiction of Bane I grew up with... was the version from the Lego Games. As a kid, the Batman and Robin version was bad because he was green and too dumb. The Dark Knight Rises version looked boring. I didn't even care about the luchador angle I was introduced to through injustice (AKA his actual characterization.) "Whatever you build, I will break" was his personality, and I thought he was awesome.
Hardy is the best Bane. I loved his voice, even though many hated it. I remember reading it in the early 90's and thought he was a brilliant character. When I heard he was going to be in Batman & Robin, I was excited. That excitement quickly faded when I saw him on screen.

BANE
was a multiple murderer
that became a
PAID HITMAN
I like that.
They were the obvious choices and they would have suffered if they had to share the screen with a superfluous third villain, which is what happened here
The Bane voice lines actually went on longer than I thought, I thought half those were just grunts they're so difficult to understand 💀
LOL
there's enough terrible content in that movie to cover, I'm sure someone has a 30 minute video on all the wacky fails in that movie.
Keep ‘em coming Vee
I thought this Bane was more dangerous if you catch the dialogue between Bruce and Dick they talk about when Bane and Poison Ivy first arrive at Gotham airport ten security guards attack Bane who then puts all those security guards into intensive care
I know this movie for so long and actually just realised that Arnold Schwarzenegger plays Mr Freeze. How did I knewee know this
I always found it so funny that the action figures looked nothing like he did in the movie
With how they wrote Bane for Batman and Robin they shoulda used Solomon Grundy instead
When they said Bane was going to be the main villain of Dark Knight Rises, I was like '...really?' That's because my only frame of reference for him at the time was this movie lol.
Yes.
My sister dated a dude working at a video rental place back in the day and he got me that same poster and the demo vhs for store use only of Little Nicky. I thought both were cool as hell
Bane is feeling warm & fuzzy!
“A laundry service that delivers. Wow.”
Even if it’s ironic enjoyment, I kind of love Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Mr. freeze. It’s just the right level of cringe worthy comedy for me.
Clearly Uma Thurman understood the assignment. She knew in what kind of movie she was.
Thorough and fair balanced, another solid episode Vee 👍
02:50 To be fair, if Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy both win you get the world of After Earth.
He was pushed around by Talia Al Ghul and Catwoman, though.
@@dhenderson1810 Yeah but at least he wasn't a complete moron who could barely utter a word

BANE
for a moment had
JASON VOORHEES
body language
the way he turned around
and looked like an
angry monster
I get that.
Those ideas of future video ideas listened at the end of this would be fun to see.
I like the little bit from "I Think You Should Leave" 😂
I was doing a rewatch of the Batman movies, and I just imagined in my head that he was Solomon Grundy and i suddenly enjoyed it more.
4:19 I thought his name was Egghead 🤔🤔🤔
I thought that he was called Egghead too.
Feels like the only reason they put Bane in the movie was so that the villains and heroes had equal numbers
I thought his name was Vein as a kid because of this movie
It's funny that you mentioned that.
Back in 97, my gym teacher took his class to see the movie, and I asked him, "Was Bane in the movie? Someone said he was." My gym teacher said, "His name was Vein, because of the vein in his arms" (or something like that). A while later, I was able to prove him wrong, but he didn't care, lol.
@@KRS2000 that’s exactly the reason I thought it was vein because his arms were veiny
@@Thatguyyoudontknow594 In a way (especially for this movie) it would almost make sense.
Thankfully I believed his name was always Bane, and when the BTAS episode Bane aired some time later, that was when I knew I was always right.
"Alleged movie" had me dead 😂
Damn, I found out Jeep literally died in the same year this movie launched
This movie could've used Rhino, and I mean the guy who worked for Scarface.
I'd love to see you make a video on the new Twisted Metal series released on Peacock.
What was the bizarre clip where the guy doesn’t wanna be here anymore please? I can tell it was made for me
Here's hoping that the new Batman movie will give us a Bane that make sense, thats if they have him in the next movie. They did kinda teased it in the last The Batman.
Are you gonna make videos on all the villains in the Lego Batman movie?
I didn't even care about the luchador angle I was introduced to through injustice (AKA his actual characterization.)
"Whatever you build, I will break" was his personality, and I thought he was awesome.
His ring name was the final solution, something about some guy called adolf? sounds crazy
This bane felt like a parody of “Stars” from resident evil 3
Of course.
Did they base Kane from the WWE on Bane from Batman and Robin? was Kane already on the scene? B&R came out in 1997
Hardy is the best Bane. I loved his voice, even though many hated it. I remember reading it in the early 90's and thought he was a brilliant character. When I heard he was going to be in Batman & Robin, I was excited. That excitement quickly faded when I saw him on screen.
