Fun fact, the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CV-6) was actually due to be in Pearl Harbor the day before the Japanese attack on the base. Enterprise and her task force ran into a nasty storm while they were en route and had to stop for a while so the destroyers could refuel. Enterprise did send a squadron of SBD Dauntless (dive bombers) to Pearl Harbor for what was supposed to be a routine patrol. This group of 18 aircraft ended up getting jumped by multiple Zeros (Japanese fighter planes) 6 planes were lost, 5 to enemy aircraft, 1 to AA fire. The main goal of the Japanese attack was to destroy the US Pacific Fleet (aircraft carriers were priority targets) Had Enterprise and her escort ships not run into that thunderstorm, they would’ve been pounded beyond belief. She also wouldn’t have become the most famous aircraft carrier in WW2. I bet her crew were thinking “That could’ve been us” when they saw the carnage (RIP USS Arizona)
My late grandpa has one of these stories. He was a trucker and one night he's sleeping at a truck stop when he hears someone jiggling the handle to his door, but it was locked. He was too tired to get up and see what the fuss was about, so he just went back to sleep. He woke up with cops all over the place. Someone broke into an unlocked truck nearby and killed the driver. Unfortunately, that's all I know about the situation. It was rural Iowa in the 50s-60s so chances of finding anything online about it are slim.
Not me, but a friend. He works as a signalling technician for the largest railway operator in Germany. Some of his colleagues were doing some on-site preparation on the tracks for an upcoming maintenance. Usually in this case, they call the signaller and ask them to close the track so they can go on it safely. But they didn't want to bother so they just went on the tracks. Until the first train came. One sadly died, others were injured. If it had been my friend's shift, this could have been him.
Anytime I see a super-entitled person either getting punished by the internet or arrested, all while making their situation worse, I think that could have been me if I never learned humility or compassion for other people. Yeah, I was that kind of kid.
I really am grateful for my parents raising me well and getting their points across in a way that stuck.
Not me, but my grandfather (he had my mom very young but was older when he went into the military). . .if you've ever seen the movie Black Hawk Down, it's based on a real military mission that went very, very badly. He was supposed to be on that mission but for some reason, I can't remember exactly why off the top of my head, was delayed. Four Black Hawk helicopters were brought down over Somalia--lots of soldiers were captured, 18 were killed in the stand-off, lots of civilians died. It was horrific. My papa could never watch the movie that was later made about it. It haunted him that a lot of his friends went to their deaths while he'd been delayed.
This just happened less than 9 hours ago. I spent yesterday afternoon into the late night with my new romantic interest. On the way home it started pouring rain and thunder storming so I continuously cautioned him dropping me off and returning home. I arrived safely, but 40 something minutes later I received a text saying he got into an accident. Scared the hell out of me because my anxiety and intuition was telling me something since before the storm something bad was gonna happen. I hope he’s okay, please pray for us

15:45 Same. When I first heard of the word bitcoin, but idk what it was, it's price was 8¢ (it's now $80). If only I just took a couple of minutes to google wtf it was, then bought ten dollars worth back then. smdh
20:25 Bulls***. They were tubes, not trains, and tubes on those different lines lets say average out about every three minutes. No-one catches an exact -train- tube, as they come so often, and never have had an _exact_ timetable.

Back in 2014 this kid tried telling me about Bitcoin. It was $15 a share at the time and I told him that sounds stupid…. Neither of us bot Bitcoin.
I could be getting beat daily in an abusive relationship but he was cheating with my "best friend" and his mask fell off and now she walks around with black eyes and I love that for her. Thanks for taking one for the team, bestie!
My middle school algebra teacher said she was on the short list to go up on the Space Shuttle Challenger in 1986 (the government had a program to put a schoolteacher on the Space Shuttle) but ultimately didn't go. We all know what happened to Challenger. :(
