Since I "rediscovered" the East Broad Top back in 2016 and began filming it, telling the story through video has been a goal of mine. The trailer I created for the launch three years ago was a start, but I have filmed rebuilding efforts since then. This video isn't just about the trains. It's about the people who made preservation of the railroad possible. Thank you Mark for this collaboration opportunity.
Folks, this video is Nick's masterpiece. I'm just happy I had a small piece of helping with it and presenting things to you all... It's fantastic to be able to collaborate with you on these things. These stories of preservation matter - and being able to share them in this way is fantastic. I hope everyone enjoyed.
Nick, thank you for doing such a fantastic job putting this together. With Mark as host, and featuring all of the people involved who brought back the EBT for the 3rd time. There’s not just coal in the hills of Pennsylvania-there’s a diamond. 🥂
The whole video was edited like an actual discovery documentary. Especially the walking and talking, and the zoom out to the station. HEAVY props to you, Nick and everyone else for this banger of a video
I completely second this. I don't often watch at 1x, but this was worth it. Nick, if you can make more and or longer content on the East Broad Top (or in general actually) I'd certainly watch it.
You really have to see it to believe it. You saw the machine shop, but there's also the locomotive shop, car shop, foundry, blacksmith shop, and several more buildings and facilities. I used to volunteer there untill work made me stop, but I plan on resuming.
This was not what I was expecting to see….. the first scenes made my jaw drop and the documentary style was perfect. And now I might start studying the EBT a little bit more…. This is amazing
that speech was amazing. ive always been called crazy for seeing steamers as living but its good to see im not alone. but damn, that place looks amazing.
My family and I live directly beside the EBT. We have since 1974 and we love the trains. We are so thankful for the East Broad Top Foundation and what they have done to keep the EBT alive and prospering. Everyone needs to come and enjoy this magnificent piece of history! You won't be disappointed! This is an excellent video and even though I have enjoyed the trains for many years, this video left me in awe of the East Broad Top Railroad!
This video is so good that the *only* criticism is the fact that the video is 14 minutes instead of 16 like the restored engine. It's a really nice video, good job!
Hyce, I’m not exaggerating when I say this meets if not beats Tom Scott. Nick is a magician and you are a masterful presenter. I am certain you could take this to any network as a pilot and get yourself a twelve-episode season. If you don’t keep it up I will see you in your walls.
First video about a railroads survival story that made me emotional. Great job to you Mr. Huber and the lads that helped produce this masterpiece. Long live the Broad Top!
This is better than most documentaries I've seen even on the major platforms. This will surely stay around for years to come and be a part of railroad History! Thank you and your editor for the amazing work.
Speechless actually, I didn’t want it to end! 👏 I had to watch it through before even commenting…. This is truly a masterpiece, the storytelling, the production, your music, the cinematography, the emotion, this is just everything. The EBT should come to you and ask permission to use this video for their promotion, it would be awesome to have this play in the ticket office or visitor’s center for people to watch. I do hope this video goes viral and you and your team get all the accolades you all so markedly deserve. And also that there are more videos like this to come, I could see this as a series of videos where you travel around the country and highlight steam preservation efforts.
@@NickOzorak . A semi-annual visit to document the progress of the restoration of the line South to Robertsdale would be good. There is so much more that remains covered by 60 + years of waiting to return to service. just a thought.
Truly an incredible video, I felt like I was watching a NatGeo documentary. Your presence in front of the camera was perfect, the direction and filming were spot on. The entire team created one of the most professionally produced videos I have ever seen. Seriously keep it up Hyce, everything from this to 3/4 of an Idiot are gold.
Ye gads. Talk about next level production. That's a hell of a story y'all told and I'm stoked for more content from the EBT. Fantastic job by Mark, Nick, and everyone behind the scenes, and huge thanks to the East Broad Top!!! 💜💜💜💜
Incredible Story! This is exactly what we too (as a railroad museum) aim to achieve! And the style of the video is just perfect! Thank you, Hyce, Nick, and the EBT for this masterpiece. I personally hope to visit the US one day and see all of this in person. Greetings from Germany.
Wow! You've outdone yourself on this one. The quality of this video is awesome. Brought tears to my eyes. Been going to EBT since 1980. Great to see you there during the spectacular. Many thanks for showing people the great treasure that is the East Broad Top.
I knew there were great videos in yours that weren't coming out of you yet, but this... this looks like a 15 minute 10.000$+ commercial kinda thing made for TV... this is INCREDIBLE
I think this may be the best video I’ve seen from the channel. The level of quality here is amazing. I can’t wait to see more quality content from Hyce and Nick! ❤️
Hyce I have watched you since 10k and I must say this is the best video you’ve ever made. I used think that American steam engines were inferior to British ones but you made me realise that the steam age is so much more than I once thought. Greetings form the UK
Sometimes you have to remind people that without the railroad they would never be where they are! Preserving and rebuilding something like this is a tribute of the highest degree! A big thank you to the volunteers and workers! Today many forget how much work it took to get where we are today. Although I wish I could go back to the old days. Wish you all the best and don't let this railroad die. My respects to all! Greetings from Austria (Vienna)
This is an outstanding and wonderful documentary film you created and I loved it all. I have to say thank you so much to the Kolvalchik family for all they did to keep this railroad preserved and now to its new owners and volunteers for all there work to keep it preserved. I look forward to the future of EBT and to restoring the whole railroad and all the locomotives. But most of all thank you to all the people who have made it possible to see this railroad preserved for future generations the East Broad Top is a truly unique piece of our nation's past and railroad history and its the only one I pray it will be around for as long as possible.
Man this is good stuff! I just got done with 8hrs of work and this is just so chill and we’ll made. Loving it from northern Italy! Great stuff good sir!🚀
What a nostalgia kick seeing a railroad documentary again! I haven't watched something like this since I was a little kid. I'm so happy there are people like you out there are able and more than willing to share this information and express your admiration and love for the railroad. Looking forward to all the amazing videos down the line!
As jealous as I am of the revitalized East Broad Top's deep-pocketed backers (those new passengers cars are 500k apiece!), I'm in awe of the story behind it. Thanks for producing this video, and here's to many more years of success for this gem of Pennsylvania.
Man, this looks big media-quality (I’m talking History Channel, Discovery Channel, National Geographic, etc back in their heyday) but without the soul-crushing shenanigans intrinsic to the corporate side of big media. Keep up the good work!
Absolutely stunning. One of the best documentaries I've seen on this platform. This quickly shot the EBT to the top of my "need to visit" list. Thank you.
you werent kidding when you said nick to a banger job. also even seeing over the internet 16 breathe for the first time in a long time was definitely tear jerking
Now THIS is some top-tier steam documentary material! Kudos to the Hyce team for sharing this story, and to all the fine men and women of the EBT's past, present, and future.
Wow! this production value is off the charts, always impressed with your longer form in person videos. Love the RO stuff too but holy cow this video is a real treat!
10 out of 10 that was a wonderful documentary, and I think this could be very good idea to continue with for other railroads. Have a good Sunday everyone
Hey there! Thank you for coming to Pennsylvania to make a video of the East broad top! There are so many of us will it back here in the east who grew up discovering and loving the East broad top railroad. Thank you for letting so many more people out your way know about it too. Take care! 😃
This is an amazing video. The EBT is an awe inspiring transformation from what it was just 3 years ago. Then it was an overgrown rail yard next to the trolley museum where I spent all of my time. Now it is a rail yard that you can actually see in its entirety with a functional steam locomotive and useable freight equipment. Then there is the immense work put into the shops. Most of the buildings were partially sunken into the ground now they all are level and don’t look like they are going to fall over.
I currently live ~1 1/2 away from the EBT, the railroad has so much history behind it! I remember the news about the #16 steam locomotive and I've been meaning to drag the family back up there for another train ride, always great fun! Love seeing videos like this Hyce, talking about train history and not only train history but what I feel is "my" train history just makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Thanks for the video, your the only channel I've joined on TH-cam, and content like this is the exact reason why.
This is easily on of my FAVORITE videos that I have seen, not just from you, Hyce, but over all of TH-cam! I love everything about it! Can't wait to see more!
Absolutely amazing that this reached 11k views in 11 hours, amazing job to everyone involved, has to be one of the best videos covering the east broad top!
Drove three hours from Philly on that Saturday and stayed in Altoona overnight because every hotel was filled. One of the best weekend trips I’ve made and I’ll be going back in August. Could’ve sworn I passed by you as I was going to my car Saturday night. Fantastic video for a railroad I love. Cheers
I'm happy to see her still up and running, I really want to see it in person some day. The care and love these people have for the EBT is the same care and love I have for my own local railroads.
Holy crap man, both you and Nick have totally outdone yourself with this one. I could easily mistake this for a feature film. Well done, to all of ya. ❤
Wow, Hyce this is amazing work you can really see and even feel the emotion of the railroad and how they all are working to save such wonderful and quite beautiful history
I'm so depressed I wasn't able to make it to meet you I'm glad you enjoyed the ebt and got to see my hometown area and did it much justice with the beautiful presentation you did on it... hope you have more video to share of yout trip
This is fantastic! Absolutely beautiful scenery, camera work, narration, the lot! Even the end credits is something to behold. You've outdone yourself here Hyce, and I'm not complaining one bit!
The EBT, C&TS, and NN (Nevada Northern) are absolutely incredible RR gems, frozen in time with original equipment and facilities. None of them would be possible without the people working hard behind the scenes to make it possible. I’m so excited for the current EBT. It’s going to be better and more expansive than the old tourist RR ever was.
I remember being a boy and salivating and imagining being here as one of the Model Railway magazines had a layout of the EBT. Thanks for sharing Hyce that we could see the real life thing!
Very nicely done you and Nick sure knocked this one out of the park. It brought a tear to my eye because it's always inspiring to know that a handful of individuals can do so much even when the odds are against them or it seems pointless. Someday I may make it out there and enjoy the Railroad in all it's glory.
Wow Hyce, way to up the production values... Great job on the video. It's a real shame that more people don't know about these little heritage railroads. I used to enjoy taking rides on the New Hope Railroad when I was a little kid.
Thank you Hyce for the honest and thoughtful presentation of my favorite railroad. This is only the beginning. Please keep this project in your sights. In 1956, the employees locked up and went home. The railroad had shut down several times before and always reopened. They left in'56 thinking they would be back......probably the main reason that everything remained, un- touched. Don't get me wrong, the operations in Colorado and New Mexico are awesome and well worth a visit. The EBT will always have the superior WOW factor in my book.
I’ve been to the EBT several times over the years…the thing that struck me when compared to other “tourist” railroads was the fact that there was “real” rolling stock EVERYWHERE! Every siding or unused bit of track had a string of hoppers sitting on it (some in very poor condition) but it really helped give the sense that this was once a real, hard-working railroad. Glad to see things are up and running again.
This is some of your best work I have ever seen your create, it is trully magical how you were able to tell the story in suck a aspiring way. Keep it up.
Holy shit Hyce this is better than anything History Channel has done in 20 years. Bravo to you, Nick, and any other crew that helped! And to the EBT of course!
Since I "rediscovered" the East Broad Top back in 2016 and began filming it, telling the story through video has been a goal of mine. The trailer I created for the launch three years ago was a start, but I have filmed rebuilding efforts since then.

Looks like a straight up documentary you can see on History channel or a science channel
I have no idea what you're paying Nick, but he deserves a raise. The whole video was a masterpiece, and the outro was just spectacular.
Nick is a master of his craft. Always supremely excited to work with him, and this just lined up and worked out perfectly.
This whole thing deserves a TV slot, i was BLOWN AWAY
The whole video was edited like an actual discovery documentary. Especially the walking and talking, and the zoom out to the station. HEAVY props to you, Nick and everyone else for this banger of a video

Yes, a very nice job. I’ve been in media and television production over 35 years.
So this is why East Broadtop gets so much attention. As much as I love locomotives, when I saw that machine shop, I think I fell in love.
We have me on the 2nd camera walking in for the first time, gasping, and saying "holy shit". Lol. It's incredible.
@Hyce that should be a members video clip then, some of the outtakes or unused footage from this trip

Wow, you've outdone yourself on this one. Truly epic. I hope you film more Videos like this!
Nice video Hyce. Are you planning to go to east broad top when they have restored the rest of the steam engines cause I might

This video is so good that the *only* criticism is the fact that the video is 14 minutes instead of 16 like the restored engine. It's a really nice video, good job!
Hyce for president :) the opening of the train running down the track leaving the trail of smoke and steam is so incredible, more than a work of art
Still can’t believe this railroad reopened 3 times and still survives today
Hyce, I’m not exaggerating when I say this meets if not beats Tom Scott. Nick is a magician and you are a masterful presenter. I am certain you could take this to any network as a pilot and get yourself a twelve-episode season. If you don’t keep it up I will see you in your walls.
Yet another TH-cam documentary that is light-years better than anything from a major production, excellent work from everyone involved.
That’s one hell of a story. Brings a tear to my eye to see how this railroad has stood the test of time and defied all odds.
First video about a railroads survival story that made me emotional.
Great job to you Mr. Huber and the lads that helped produce this masterpiece.

Glad to see things are up and running again.
This is some of your best work I have ever seen your create, it is trully magical how you were able to tell the story in suck a aspiring way. Keep it up.
Finally…the straight story. Well done!
What an utterly fantastic video, thank you Mark!❤
Holy shit Hyce this is better than anything History Channel has done in 20 years. Bravo to you, Nick, and any other crew that helped! And to the EBT of course!
Hands down the best video you’ve put out Hyce!
