    Does anyone else remember the distant days when Rolex would willingly change the dial on your OP during the first 12 months of ownership if your tastes changed ?
    What about that wonderful period where you could select the beautiful 3,6,9 dial ?
    Nowadays I will happily stick with my AKnight with its "Celebrations" dial which cost me £18.

    Had the black Milgauss myself from an AD at the time, had to sell it very quickly, liked the dial and the seconds hand in orange was a stand out however what i didn't like was the case thickness which affected the way it sat on the wrist it was very top heavy, secondly the polished middle links and the bezel while I didn't wear the watch too often it was a scratch magnet which for me was burdening, both issues could be eliminated in the case of the OP.

    Ash, well done. You nailed everything in this video. The Milgauss is a curio, albeit a very nicely executed one. The OP is an genuine classic that will never let down it’s owner. I also heartily agree with your decision to move into the Santos. A wonderful design from one of the original high-purpose watchmakers. Thank you for your excellent videos.

    The white Milgauss is the pick of the bunch!

  • @KeepingWatchUK

    Have both 😀
    If I had to pick between then I’d go the Zblue. The dial is just stunning.

    Concerning the ordinariness of the OP (8:50) one could argue that the here desired green dial counters this point, as it’s in the classic Rolex green. This however boosts it’s visibility in public which can be a pro or a con.

    Great advice as ever! I have given this video much thought, probably more than I should have(!)
    I associate Rolex with professionals such as airline pilots, divers, scientists etc who play golf at weekends. Whereas the Cartier suggests a gentleman of independent means, who flies his own aircraft as a hobby and captains his own polo team at weekends.

    I like that outfit. I have avoided green as a dominate color in the past, but that looks good.

    If you like the Milgauss colors and want something smaller, there is the old ref OP 34 mm, olive dial with orange dots. It is a beautiful watch, sportier with fun colors, ideal for the summer. Great watch.

    There are in total four modern milgausses: z-blue, black dial with the green crystal, white dial version and a black one without the green crystal. My favourite is the white one which I find suprisingly good every day white dial rolex.

    I agree Ash. The Cartier is an icon of its own and stands up against the Explorer all day long. You clearly enjoy wearing it all the more so that's the win in my book 👍🏻

    I wish the Cartier bracelet could align the screw heads all going the same way - it really annoys me, odd complaint ? that orange seconds hand is special . I am lucky to have the 41mm green OP - it is a handsome rolex. be safe TCG . ~ JDS/CT

      Because they’re actual screws. Most watches you see with aligned screws are just capped to look symmetrical.

    Hi Ash. Hope all is well at your end. Great video as usual and for me, I would go for the 41mm Silver dial on bracelet Oyster Perpetual. I would advise this gentleman to go to a Rolex Boutique or AD and actually try the watch on. That should eliminate any doubts he might have. 🫡🙏

    The Milgauss is less anti-magnetic than the 41mm OP. The OP has the 3230 movement with the silicon hairspring, whereas the Milgauss has the old movement with steel hairspring.

    • @cecaju9516
      @cecaju9516 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The 32XX series movements do not have a silicon hairsprings. They are made of niobium and zirconium.

    For me it's just personal choice,i prefere oyster perpetual but i understand if somebody prefer miglauss,i think the color of miglauss and the second hand in form of flash is a little to gadget for me for a rolex,but as i say before its just depend of you,...enjoy both

  • @wristopia4101

    The OP41 is very different to a Milgauss.
    The question from Andy was green OP41 V green/blue Milgauss, so mentioning the other OP's is pointless.
    The Milgauss is much thicker/heavier (as you said) with a bigger crown, but only 20mm lug width v the OP41 being 21mm.
    I think get an OP (green is very matt, and blue is overly sunburst!) and save up for a re release Milgauss which hopefully will have crown guards and 21mm lug width........ then again I would have got a Milguass at list pre deletion if I could have haha.

    OP all the way. If the question is limited to Rolex, no day or date complications and an understated appearance, that is the very definition of the OP. I have the Explorer but it sounds like that would be too distinctive for your viewer given its very identifiable 3,6,9 markers.

    Another great watch video. I wasn’t previously aware of the Milgauss. Do you have an opinion on Omega watches? I have an Omega CK859 and I’m sorely tempted by the Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M

    Funny enough, the Gauss rating of the Rolex Milgauss is lower than that of the Cartier Santos.

    I actually think the OP is the quintessential Rolex. The batons and hands are classic Rolex and the fully brushed oyster bracelet is hard wearing. Also agree you can wear the OP in any situation even diving for the majority of us. Also the OP 36 had a bit of a bling with the multi faceted white gold batons. Generic or under the radar, you can choose.

    Watch out for the notorious Caliber 3235. Precision and reliability is sadly not that one would reasonable expect.

    I’d just like to point out to those of you who, like me, have useless graduate degrees in philosophy that Ash performs the Hegelian “negation of the negation” in his discussion of the OP’s lack of complications at 8:14

  • @Santoshlv426
    @Santoshlv426 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The Millgauss has a specific application (hi mag environments), like a Submariner is for diving rather than bragging. The OP is the better choice.Word of advice is to physcially view the green dial. I wanted a green until I saw one and the green is not the vibrant "mint green" like you'd get on the Wimbledon. It's rather "dull". The blue is vibrant and the gold/silver is the best with a few unique accents. Either way you won't be sorry to own any of these.

    If i ever would be so stupid to buy a luxuary watch one of the candidates would be a Cartier Santos, the first aviator watch designed by Louis Cartier himself to aviation pioneer Alberto Sandos Dumont. The other would be a Panerai Luminor Marina.

    I understand your final comments re Rolex but I believe a similar point may be made in regard to Cartier, and particularly the Santos. As great a brand as Cartier is and as great a watch as the Santos is, neither is particularly exclusive. You could say there is something of a "hype train" effect for Cartier at the moment.
    I believe there is more value and more distinctive style looking to smaller brands and even microbrands.

    • @TheChapsGuide
      @TheChapsGuide  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Fully agree, the smaller brands offer much better value for money and Rolex are c=actually retracting from public view, with their cessation of contracts with Formula 1 and Wimbledon tennis.

    I agree with you, Ash, that the Oyster Perpetual looks a bit generic, and for me, is not worth its current retail price.
    I've never even heard of the Rolex Milgauss before you discussed it here.
    I bought my Rolex 16 years ago. Today I likely wouldn't buy a Rolex at all, considering how much they've increased in price, and considering also how the cultural perceptions of this iconic brand have changed in that time.

    An OP is a generic watch ,as you say, at a silly price.
    I had the red grape version at 20% off ,it had a fault so I asked for my money back. After it was discontinued the price rocketed, silly me.
    Always liked the green crystal Millgauss back when it was unpopular but I was a lab. scientist then.
