Cursed Totem should be there in a tie with God-Pharaoh's Statue, because the game ENDED the moment it was gone. It single-handedly shut down both Kenriths and prevented Zack from activating his creatures for more artifact shenanigans.
For sure! The longer the game is, less valor you get from the statue i guess, because people can get mana to pay the tax. And it was a very long game, so i think the MVC was cursed totem
I feel it's very necessary for me to write this comment for all of you at Playing With Power (Regular players, behind the scenes people, and anybody else I may have forgotten to mention). I've been playing Commander for the last 5 years and cEDH/ Pauper for the last 3. I've been watching Playing With Power for the last few months now. I'm a person who doesn't build too many decks. But everything I build is my own idea, I do not net-deck. One of the reasons I need to thank you is because even though I had Competitive Decks built before I started watching PWP. You pushed my game to another level. First, by helping encourage me to play in pods more often. As opposed to the once a week games that became par for my course. Also, you made me very excited about joining my local area cEDH tournaments. I ended up winning first place a couple months back with my homemade Kinnan deck. Watching episodes off of your channel, I tend to use them as a playbook. Kind of like in football. Each one of you amazes me. From Ryan's warming introductions at the start of each video to whatever next-level-ridiculous plays Mike pulls off (Or has in his opening hand). Hearing any of your names brings a smile and great story I can talk about at my l.g.s., at a cEDH tournament, or elsewhere. Thank you for inspiring me, not just as mtg players but as people. To finish this comment, I'd like to share a little story about PWP I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with. There's a video from a while back on The Spike Feeders channel where The Spike Feeders (Jim and Bill) talk about how the PWP team (Folger and Mike) brought them to their area of Ohio. I'm also from Ohio. I thought that was a really nice thing to do. As well, it's something that brings a smile to my face from time to time. Stay safe everybody and keep up the Tier 1 work!
I have seen a couple comments talking about missed God-Pharaoh statue cost increases. I went through it a second time and checked but the ONLY time I was not able to find the mana for it was when Cal cast Intuition at 16:19 (Excluding the Simic Signet which was noted by the PWP team), he paid what looks like only 3 mana for tapping what appeared to be Hinterland Harbor, Rejuvenating Spring, and Chrome Mox for what should be a 4 mana spell at this point. A lot of the initial ones I thought were misses were by Cal and Adam which both have Carpet of flowers and were just using the carpet of flowers mana to cast which is not obviously apparent when just looking at the board state. Cal also has Baral, Chief of Compliance out in later turns and he reduces the mana cost of instants and sorceries by 1, so a free counterspell such as Pact of Negation which was cast would cost 1 mana not 2 since Baral reduction works on the increased cursed totem cost. If someone is able to figure out the Intuition please reply here I spent a bit of time trying and just could not explain it away. But other than that and the Simic Signet the god Pharaoh statue was certainly paid for every time.
True, I believe you are correct with that intuition. I count 7 available mana between lands and chrome mox, then -1 cost from baral which is still 4 and only 3 mana paid.
Basically we didn't want to say it every time something was cast, because it would bog down the narration. Thank you for taking the extra time to look through it!
At the very least it doesn't look like the Delay that countered Karn was paid for either. It looks like he only tapped the Signnet, the lantern, and tapped one land to pay rhystic. Baral reduced the extra cost by 1, but that's still one mana too few to also satisfy rhystic.
Love seeing Rashmi doing what it does, it's definitely my favorite commander. I saw Tyler's win coming from a mile away the moment the Totem left the battlefield. Such a great game!
Have to say, that Daretti deck is sick and I'm super sad it fizzled out due to totem :(. God-Pharaoh's Statue almost getting a kill was also amazing. Good win by tyler tho
I'm glad Tyler won, I am getting to a point where people who play Simic or Sultai strike me as weak tryhards who aren't good, they're just abusing the fact that Wizards wants Simic to be on an entirely different power level as other color combos, an entirely different tier
I definitely won’t say it fizzled. It almost popped off sooo many times only to get stopped by Cal. And that sick pyroblast to get God-Pharo into play was beautiful.
I wanna know the reasoning behind that windfall by Adam at the end there. With a smothering tithe and no ouphe on the battlefield, that couldn’t have been a good decision unless he forgot about the tithe.
Game felt like it was over as soon as Adam played the Windfall. Why would you do that with Smothering Tithe on the board? I thought maybe Adam would use the Spirit Guides to attack Tyler and try to kill him, but none of that happened. It seemed like this game should have ended much differently
I'd be interested to know what makes Telling Time worth it over Anticipate. I don't see any cards that particularly care about the top of the deck beyond Dark Confidant.
Yo that was a sick game! Hey Zack, is that mishra's workshop real? Like the ≈$3000 one? Cause that's some dedication. Also, the fact that intuition into narsets reversal happened twice was great! 😄
Super cool game! Kenrith seems cooler and cooler. Daretti seemed like more stable build of Magda, with way more options to tutor up the combo. Thank you!
Aside from the Intuition(Which was a weird one that was paid 3 mana for even though it would have been 4 and let Tyler draw off Rhystic so idk what happened there), every other spell obeyed the God Pharaoh increase, many spells were cast using Carpet of Flowers mana which is not clear on the board state but was indeed there and then when Baral was out it appears that Cal is paying Rhystic Study triggers but he actually isn't and is paying the God Pharaoh increase thanks to Baral reducing costs by 1 and letting Tyler draw instead, or just paying it after the spell resolves when Ryan notes that Rhystic trigger was paid for you typically see the players tap the mana afterwards and not directly on spell cast.
God-Pharoah's Statue feel s like a worse Rule of Law, but it does cost people 1 life per turn, and it's off-colour, and it's fetchable by Sisay, which is something.
Cal paid using the 2 mana from Carpet of Flowers he added to his mana pool. It is very easy to miss since there is not physical representation to signal it but in total he paid 4 mana, 3 for the sol ring(Chrome Mox, 2 blue from Carpet) and 1(flooded grove) for the Rhystic Study trigger.
@@adams333 Each was paid, Delay costs 3 was paid with Sol Ring+Signet and then taps 1 land for rhystic tax, Force was paid using Utopia sprawl which costs 1 mana thanks for Baral reducing its cost by an additional 1 using the second mana produced by Utopia sprawl to pay for Rhystic, I would have said these earlier I just didn't know when in turn 8 you were specifically talking about. My bad.

They did pay for it, Cullen Owen has a great comment about it and that he pain stakingly wen through the footage to check. Essentially, Cals board looks the most damning, but with carpet and baral a lot of God pharaohs statue can be paid for. There were only 2 misses with one being called out by PWP.
It can be but it’s a slow strategy unless you are playing godo which is technically voltron lol so you’re gonna have to slow the game down to give u time to set up and start taking your opponents out
It depends on what you call voltron. My definition of voltron is using auras or equipment to load onto a commander and kill with commander damage. By that definition, no I don’t think it is viable. It just sets you back too much when your opponents get to interact with you. If your definition is killing a table through commander damage, then yes I do think that is viable.
