The Finale of Devastation/Narset Reversal/Veil of Summer interaction: Veil of Summer wouldn’t have mattered right? It says your spells can’t be countered this turn. Narset Reversal doesn’t counter spells correct? Just removes it from the stack and returns it back to hand.
@@MstrKipper Not actual standard, the Arena-only "Standard 2022" metagame that rotated the all the broken Standard sets like Eldraine and Theros:Beyond Death, but left the format without any non-red land destruction.Field of Ruin was later reprinted in Midnight Hunt for the actual standard rotation.
I don’t know the Oswald deck at all but I kept looking at Cal’s board like surely he can just win here with some shenanigans? I know in Historic Brawl I lose to Oswald typically on turn 4 but also that’s through a Paradox Engine line
Sisay Elk is a real cool deck, being able to use all rule of law effects is really helpful imo. I like non elk Sisay, since stuff like Esika and Nicol Bolas are really helpful

En el minuto 24:20, ¿Finale of Devastation de Mike podía ser protegido por Veil of Summer del Narset Reversal de Ryan? Tengo entendido que Narset Reversal no hace counter.
For the teferi loop in game one - he couldn’t untap both crypt and chain veil with teferi who slows, but he did have a bloom tender in play so that could replace it easily (cradle made enough mana by itself anyway)
Teferi, Who Slows the Sunset only untaps one artifact with his ability. His ability reads +1: Tap or untap up to one target Artifact, Creature, and Land. You gain 2 life.
24:24. Just pointing out that Veil of Summer wouldn’t actually effect Narset’s Reversal. Reversal doesn’t “counter”. It copies the spell then returns the original to hand. Reversal would still resolve just fine through a Veil.
I have just noticed something, as someone who just watches cedh but doesn't play I may be mistaken, but Angel's grace can be very good against certain decks, as it prevents you from loosing and the other players from winning, so you play it while someone is trying to pull a combo, and put them in a tough spots, as he may be beaten on the crack back if he does pull the combo, of he sotps it and try to avoid being ganged by the res of the table if he decides to stop his combo
@@noehonegger4624 @joaocisne556 there are decks that play it. It's not necessarily bad, it just depends on the context of your use for it. For example, it can be used in conjunction with an Ad Naus cast to safely draw your entire deck and not care about the life loss!
I'm so surprised to have seen Book combo at a cEDH table tbh, I figured the easy access to strip mine would be enough to incentivise against running it at all
I wouldn't say strip mine would disincentivize playing it, since I rarely actually see strip mine. There's also assassin's trophy, which I find to be much more common if you actually have the colours (so Sisay could have been running it). However, this is also why Cal played conserate land as some extra protection.
24:21 why would Mike cast Veil here? does nothing against a Narset R. I think Mike wanted to go on his own terms since he knew if Finale didn't resolve he was pretty much done for haha. ggs guys (also love how at 19:57 you guys are a "team" now hahah)
Consecrated land on Faceless Haven, animate it, then activate Book of Exhaulted Deeds targeting it. You now have an indestructible land that says you can't lose the game and your opponents can't win the game.
book of exalted deeds + faceless haven = you can't lose the game unless they destroy faceless haven somehow. something they came up with in standard, thats why it's banned there. you activate faceless haven to turn it into a 4/3 creature with all creature types, then you activate the book, putting an enlightened counter on faceless haven, since it is an angel, you then pass the turn and you can't lose the game until faceless haven is destroyed. Edit: Iforgot about mutavault, that works too :O
Small correction - Book was only banned in "pre-rotated" Standard, a format that only had ZNR, KHM, STX, and AFR. Once MID came out it added Field of Ruin to Standard and the combo didn't really take off. Faceless Haven *is* currently banned in Standard, but that's for its aggro role and not as a combo piece.
24:22 It didn't matter this game but Veil of Summer doesn't block Narset's Reversal. Narset's Reversal doesn't counter the spell and directly bounces the spell on the stack to hand. So Mike's Veil of Summer was purely to kill himself, or the 200IQ perspective would be to be the good guy and not kingmake Ryan by letting him resolve a Finale himself
