Will it run? Will this 1972 GMC C20 get me 500+ miles home?

- I bought this '72 GMC C20 (though I accidentally call it a Chevy C10 in the opening shot). It does not run, the gas tank smells like varnish, the wiring is a disaster, and the brakes and clutch are untested. Uh Oh! Can I get it running and driving to make it the 535 miles home?

I love those 67 to 72 Chevy trucks. I was surprised you didn't investigate or grease the u joints and front wheel bearings. Since you're not using Dereks catch phrases on vice grip I don't think your copying him. Keep putting those trucks back on the road. Nothing sadder than seeing them scrapped.
You are right, I should have filmed me checking out more of the trucks. I realized after I got to editing the video that there was a whole lot I failed to film. I keep trying to get better with my on-screen presence and videography. I appreciate your feedback!

This is such a coincidence i actually looked at that exact same truck a few weeks ago in Cleveland Tennessee just didn’t buy it because it looked like a lot of work lol but great video👍

Thank you Jason! Yeah, I don't have a clue what the 5 lug rear end is out of. The gears are about 11-12% taller than stock (according to the difference between my GPS and the speedo. It's also narrower. The rear tires are super wide, but sit in the openings at a stock depth. I've not taken time to measure it yet. I'm guessing Nova-ish...What do you think?

Oh, I suppose...it's just easier on my back than leaning over the engine...my opinion.
You might want to take a closer look at the VIN. My 70 C2500 has extra lugnuts(D60).
Hi David, I have confirmed the VIN with the Ohio BMV. The issue with the lugs is that someone switched out the rear end. The fronts still have 8 lugs, but the rear end is narrower than stock and only 5 lug. The gear ratio is better for MPGs though. According to the GPS, the Speedo is reading about 11-12% slower than the actual travel speed.

Should have left regulator on I had an issue with mine the pump was putting out like 9 PSI way too much for any carb

If a guy could copy another guys TH-cam channel, i wonder what it would be called? Vice Grip Garage, try being more original, try teaching people how to wrench if you’re that knowledgeable! You basically swapped a gas tank, and charged a battery! The thing fired right up, you said the timing was off, I didn’t hear it! Did you change the timing? All and all what I’m saying is, you’re trying to be like him, and you’re not funny like him! Don’t try to be somebody else, be yourself, slow down when you talk, and talk your viewers through what your thinking, you have to figure out how to bring the viewers to you! That’s how to grow your channel! Best of luck my brother! You raise good points Darrin. I'm still trying to find my voice, so to speak. I think I've done a better job of that in some of my other videos. I've got a new one about to release where I pull the engine and trans from my '55 Chevy truck I built (because the trans went bad on me). I think it is slower paced and more instructive. For this one I was both super excited, because I have never done this kind of rescue, restore and drive video before; plus, I was super nervous about the time crunch. As I said in the video, I had to get home the next day. As I was reviewing the video, I was sad at how much I missed when recording. I didn't film any of the rewiring or tuning. Bad move on my part. But I thought it'd still be good to put the video out there. I'm not super familiar with Vice Grip, though he seems like a great guy and very knowledgeable. I watched his series on the Hot Rod Power Tour trip, because I'd love to make that trip. I also watched his video series on Drag Week, with the red, white, and blue Chevelle. I didn't know he did rescue/restore type videos as well...I'll have to check it out! I appreciate the honest feedback. That's the only way we learn and grow! God Bless!
No I hear ya! That’s how he got famous, doing revivals, it just seemed to familiar to his videos, with out the education, and the funny! I did watch your whole video though, because I’m a car and truck enthusiast! I was just hoping you’d slow down a bit and be yourself! I understand the excitement, but you have to remember that your viewers are just along for the ride! We might not be as excited as you, you have to get us there! You started a TH-cam channel, and I’d love to see it grow! I could personally never do a video on cars, as I actually sound just like Derrick when I work on cars, I say the same words, and have the same mannerisms as he does! Good luck brother!
