Greetings from Pakistan. It is always
delightful to hear Mr Gupta's insightful analysis. However one aspect that he has not mentioned is that there is a controversy regarding the appointment of the DG ISI. The ISPR had tweeted the appointment of the new ISI chief and the posting of General Faiz as Core commander Peshawar. But the notification for the appointment of this ISI chief has not been signed off by the PM. The current government intends to retain General Faiz as the ISI chief until the end of its tenure. This has created friction between the military and the government. So this is still in limbo. This was also seen on the Pakistani new channels wherein the ARY channel was describing General Faiz as the ISI Chief while another channel was showing General Nadeem as ISI chief.

Ordinary Indians citizens don’t remember or don’t care to remember about appointments to head any branch of the forces or any intelligence agencies because India is a proper functioning democracy
(Sorry, we neither asked for Kamala’s democracy certificate nor do we need it. It’s rightful place is the paper shredder).
In a proper functioning democracy those appointments are handled by the political class. That class has already been chosen by a democratic process so we trust politicians / govts to do the appointments without bias, honestly & efficiently.
In Pak there always a “TAMASHA” around these appointments. The common people think they (should) have a say in selection. It’s debated / discussed on TV panels on social media & print media similar to maybe cricket. It’s a “SPECTACLE”. In India these appointments are just courtesy FYI to the country. So & so succeeds this guy to become the next Air Chief. Nothing more than that (there have been maybe 1 or 2 controversies).
Conclusion - Ordinary people know about the chiefs in Pakistan because it’s a pale shadow of a democracy. Behind the scenes everything is as would be in a military dictatorship. Pak is Jinnah’s abysmal failed experiment & teetering on being a failed state & collapsing.
It’s downfall will be messy but swiftly exactly same as Gani govt. What they did to Gani & America will happen to them.
It’s just KARMA. The way life works. Earlier their suicide threats would instill fear in the west & they would cave in to their demands (ransom?). Now the west says you want to commit suicide? Please go ahead. Be our guest !!! What a shame & waste of a sovereign nation. The brutal partition was all for this? Really?
The charm of it’s good looking generals and classy articulation is starting to lose it’s sheen on western democracies. They are no longer buying what Pak is selling. Expiry date has passed. Sick !

A unique presentation by The Print (thanks SG) which throws light on major fault lines in Indian Defence strategies.
It is an indisputable fact that Pakistan is one of the two - the other being China - major adversaries of India. Whereas talks and diplomacy are ways to diffuse potentially explosive situations and overcome adversaries, one can win in these parleys only from a position of strength - meaning, to have a potent and deadly Armed Forces. While in Pakistan and China, with whom we have long borders of varied terrain and climatic conditions, the Armed Forces have a great say in matters of National security, unfortunately we cannot say the same of our great Nation. Since more than a couple of decades back, our senior military leaders are perceived to be administratively ( provide necessary equipment, keep the morale of the Forces up, not dilute dignity etc…., so essential to face adversities) weak.
Tailpiece: Are we (the people, the legislature, the governments, the executives and the judiciary) as a Nation taking our Armed Forces for granted? Just remember no other democracy except India has such vast and varied land & sea borders and air spaces to guard in order to preserve the sovereignty. The sooner the Nation wakes up to these facts the safer our future generations will be.
