    I’ve honestly grown to hate Nintendo as a company. Crazy because I loved the switch back in 2017. I’m likely not buying a switch 2 even for the BOTW sequel. After three pairs of joycons with drift at 80 a peice, they just don’t make a good product like they used to

  • @Linkchidori
    @Linkchidori 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    I think by this point, it shouldn't be a concern if the Switch keeps selling incredibly well or not. The console already has sold more than 100 million consoles, and its already a massive success in the gaming community. Yes, maybe some people that are looking for new AAA experiences may not see the Switch as a viable console anymore, but recently those experiences have not been the majority, with First Party/Indies/AA/Previous gen ports. While not having many recent AAA experiences, i think the Switch has still a quite good library with significant variety.
    In a way, while i do think a Switch 2 will be announced this year or the next one, if they keep making interesting games for the current Switch i think it will be okay. Also, i don't think we'll have an announcement until the chip shortage goes away, and i dont know how worthy would be for Nintendo to launch a console you can't even produce/sell.

    • @BrittleScarMusic
      @BrittleScarMusic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm a pretty new switch games you could say and I just love the game library, but I was always one who just adored the indie games and little quirky games. Most of the games I liked have moved to Nintendo's consoles recently (Bayonetta... I mean I loved the original was so glad Nintendo picked it up), I do love their exclusives. I also agree I don't think any announcement until the chop shortage passes at least and maybe then some (depending on when the shortage ends of course). I just hope they don't let their arrogance get the best of them like Rich said. One problem I think the steam deck has is that... well valves support is patchy. I also find a lot more games are relying a bit too much on high quality graphics compared to gameplay which I do think Nintendo does have going for it (so far but could be wrong) but that's just my opinion.

    • @Linkchidori
      @Linkchidori 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BrittleScarMusic Another problem with Valve is probably not even the software, which will be good as its basically a PC with Steam installed, but the capability of producing and selling units. For Mario Kart 8. I prefer the DLC with an additional 48 tracks. It’s only $25. If they brought out a new Mario Kart 9, it would be 60 bucks, have like 12 tracks and would NOT look much different than MK8. Your sarcasm is missing the point. The Switch is QUICKLY getting outpaced, and Nintendo is ignoring that. It was already somewhat underpowered when it released, but they managed a great showing with the first two or three years of software. But even some of Nintendo's own first-party titles have been struggling to maintain consistent performance. The latest Direct featured clips that showed some pretty rough frame rates and frame skipping. Yet, Nintendo seems convinced they can squeeze several more years out of current Switch hardware. Just no. I loved the Switch when it first came out, but when I see new games announced for Switch, unless they're first-party, I look to see what else they'll be available on, because I'm tired of the compromises on geriatric tech. Even first-party is getting less appealing.

With the new Mario Strikers, 48 new courses for MK8 and even BOTW2 to name just a few, Nintendo is showing no signs of slowing down even with the Switch. Besides, the Switch has become just this nostalgia system because of so many re-releases of past classic games that I think that's also one other reason why the Nintendo Switch has been so successful and will continue to be successful. Maybe the number of people moving onto the Steam deck isn't so steep as you think it could be but time will tell and we'll just have to wait and see.

The kid in me comes out 😁. Their sales speaks for themselves. Not everyone needs third party games meant for nutty 4K rigs with graphic cards costing 3 times as much as a switch or series S lol. They seem to be doing fine. As long as their development wizards keep pumping out the fun, I’ll buy. PlayStation games are too Similar n too story focused for my tastes, like playing interactive movies. Miss the ps2 era. Complete finished No day 1 patch no micro transaction 4 versions to buy at launch bs.

    As a Nintendo hardcore fan, I completely understand your point of view. And I’m glad there are alternatives for you with the competition! Me personally, aside from the obvious exclusives, I love the 3rd party support so far, like you. The fact that there are going to be fewer current gen games ported to the Switch is indeed something not to ignore. However, there are still older gen games coming to the Switch that you certainly have already played but not me. Seeing all the PS1/PS2/PS3 3rd party games that were never on a Nintendo platform and are now coming to the Switch is awesome! One fairly recent example is the Bioshock Trilogy. Never played them when they released, loved them on the Switch for the first time.
    And at the end of the day, beyond the reasons you mentioned, I suppose that the more devices Nintendo sells, the harder it becomes to please absolutely everyone.
    But I’m confident that once Nintendo moves into next-gen, as long as they do things right, we’ll be seeing you back with Nintendo as before, so to speak 😉

    One important thing you missed and a lot of things many people gloss over too is that the PRICE OF GAMES on the switch always stay high and rarely are on sale or end up reduced but yet how often is there a steam sale? While there is that initial outlay on the device itself it is the cost of games over time that is a big factor and the Steam deck has a MASSIVE advantage there because you can spend a bit more it but you can easily bring across your existing library if you have one or you can snap up a ton of cheap deals when the various sales happen throughout the year.

    I'm disappointed in the lack of worthwhile tech revisions to the Switch as much as anybody, but the Steam Deck still has a lot of proving to do. Linux can still be really hit or miss for gaming even with advances in Proton, the size still looks a lot fatter and clunkier than the Switch, making it less actually portable, historically valve has never had a great track record with hardware, and in general I'm not a fan of a lot of choices they made like scrunching the D pad and joysticks so close together to make space for these unnecessary touch pads. The Switch for all its faults still has a pretty significant advantage in just being straightforward, user friendly, compact, and easy to use while offering lots of nintendo exclusives.
    I personally think the Steam Deck is conceptually a good idea but in its current state still needs a lot of refinement and doesn't interest me.

    • @SaturnTubes
      @SaturnTubes 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The big difference is the style of platform. Steam deck is a PC. Yeah it has a custom Linux, but it still requires optimizing every single game to try and get them to play.
      A console, by design, removes most of that in favor of every port being developed individually. At this point, if Nintendo were to make a revision to upgrade the hardware they miss out on a massive chunk of that 103 million consumers who may not buy the stronger switch and in turn may not buy the games made for it. PS4 Pro and Xbox One X don’t really work as allegories because neither let games only work on them, and as a result you had games that barely saw any improvement and mediocre performance across the board. Even a tiny change to the switch would radically change how dev works, making that scenario impossible.
      The strength of Nintendo switch is that because of the weaker hardware, budgets for games made for it can be lower. This is why so many middle market, remasters, and indie games thrive in switch. Games that could always run well on it that work visually. I honestly believe most of the remasters we got recently have been because of switch sales, which has given us upgrades of some of the best games ever made, and in the case of the mana series, official translations we never got before. Switch was never meant to be the high end graphics machine and you can see that in battery life.
      Gamers nexus could never get the steam deck to last as long as a switch does, even with games like dead cells. In portable mode you won’t be using the strength of it for much. On top of that, it’s extremely bulky compared to a switch, which is designed to fit into any bag or even a large jacket pocket.
      Switch’s built in design for co op anywhere is also something steam deck cannot emulate without you walking around with controllers.
      They’re just two very different products and currently there is no substantial market for a steam deck style device.
      PC gamers have too high of standards for the steam deck, and casual consumers won’t want to learn how to adjust settings.
      Then you have Valve’s historically bad hardware quality. Even their expensive index controllers have had a near 100% failure rate

    Ntendo kind of reminds me of kodak were they let the age of digital photograpy pass them by. In this case it is with not upgrading thier hardware in a timely manner. Every one was waiting for a Ntendo Pro to come, instead all they got was an upgraded oled screen if I remember correctly. And then you have Valve inovating in the space. It is going to come back and bite Ntendo in the long run. True the steamdeck may have a few issues at launch and it may be a while before most of the games in the Steam Library are either verified or playable. But that happens with most new things. It takes a while to shake somethings out. But even with a few hiccups, it is going to be doing way better. Already just the hardware potential for not only playing most games people play now, it is open so anyone can chuck something on it as they wish. The repairablility and upgrade of this thing too is a big plus. Also the games in general are way cheaper too. And you can use it as a desk to too!

    I don't think Nintendo is too concerned at this time. It has an install base of over 100 million and if they continue to feed that install base with it's 1st party and 2nd party partnerships, they should be fine.
    I would love to see an upgrade to the Switch though. We'll see what the future holds.

    Rich, thats on you. I am getting the Nintendo Switch for two reasons: their Nintendo first party games and few imports .
    Nintendo, whether you like them or not, is a company that still has a lot of Nintendo games I go back to time to time. I still like them. But on their hardware, yeah, they do need to at least step up. I miss the PS2 to early PS3 era as it was an amazing time to experience then. So many fun titles on each console from 6th Gen to early 7th gen that'll never be ported.
    As for Steam Deck, thats a definite buy for me.

    How about portability size and battery life, that matters to some people.

      in that case the switch isn't good either seeing as how it's too big to fit into a pocket. if you have a switch and use it portably you most likely have a bag of some sort to carry it in. you can just replace the switch with the steam deck in that case. 3ds was the last gaming handheld that was portable enough to be taken everywhere easily in your pocket

The Steam Deck looks like a amazing contender and it will certainly command market competition hopefully pushing nintendo aswell

    I've never really cared about the power of a system. It's all about the experiences they provide. The one thing I'm not too keen on with the steam deck is the digital only format. I do download a lot of games, but there's just nothing to collect for the steam deck. Maybe I'm old, but I like buying physical games when I can. Probably still buying one though.
