PSA for beginner builders: If you have a hot swap board, when you put on the switches, make sure you support the back of the socket when putting on the switches because it’s possible to pop off the hot swap socket if you don’t. I never even knew this was a thing until I decided to buy a prebuilt mechanical keyboard. I didn't know about switch colors, keycap materials, stabilizers, nada. But just for the sake of deciding which keyboard to get I did a bunch of youtube research which I guess is how this video ended up in my recommended section.
Very cool, and even though I don't think I would build one from scratch just yet I can see myself tinkering with and customizing the one I just ordered.

    great video!
i also just finished building my first custom board today and its such a huge difference to every other keyboard i had before!
also the building process is so much fun!
    for anyone interested its a:
KBDFans Tofu 60% E-Yellow (Foam between case and pcb)
    HS60 Hotswap PCB (V3)
    MBUK Steel Plate
GMK Screw in Stabilisers clipped, sanded to get a perfect flat surface and lubed with Krytox 205g0
Moyu Queen Switches filmed and lubed with Krytox 205g0
HK Gaming PBT Keycaps Bee (same as Josie got for her board - good choice!!!! :D)
and tomorrow ill make a diy coiled usb-c cable with a orange sleeve so that it fits the case and the keycaps

I used to have a coworker that makes custom keyboards and a friend that was super into switches. I never really understood what either of them talked about so watching her be confused about it all just reminded me of my own confusion when they talked. I've never made my own keyboard and idk if I ever will (though as time consuming as it is, it seems like a cool and fun project) it was super neat seeing this from her perspective.
