So glad to see these omnis back in print. Many of us prefer whatever art style was what we saw when we were kids and this is definitely my era! I appreciate subsequent art styles but this is like a time machine for me.
Vol 2 used to go for a lot before the reprint!
A must buy for me. I love this era of comics. I hate to beat a dead horse but these new spines are messing with my OCD.

Definitely getting this, as a Cap stan. I've also been waiting for some Hellcat in Omni format, so this is a start. I also have to say that it seems like Englehart is in love with his own creation of Mantis, since he loved to add her to a ton of stories, lol.
Really glad you're giving attention to Roy Thomas's introductions. These are great windows into the history of the comics industry.

I wish the Epic line were hardcovers. Its the only reason i buy Omnis! Them softcover books are aweful to keep mint

Nice seeing the ads at the bottom of the letters page. I wish both Marvel and DC would put all the ads for other comics in their Omnis. I always found these ads really exciting and I think it would help sell more Omnis if people see these tantalising previews for other titles.
Nice, this is an awesome comic era. I already have these in Masterworks format, but cool to see it available in omni format.
Some of the stories have been collected in Omnibus format. 141-144,147-149 were in the Squadron Supreme Omnibus.
I remember reading Hellcat introduction while waiting for a bus home one saturday after back in 78/79.
Printed in Black & White in the pages of Super Spider-man Weekly, it would lead me to the actual newstand distribution of Marvel US comic innthe UK and then to comic shops.
It's nice to see that we manage to get a 5th Avengers and hope does well to release a vol 6.
Now we need a FF vol 5. Marevl's first family does get a bad deal at times

I was going to pick it up. But I don’t have many avengers pre-modern collections.
I just had omnibus vol2 and the avengers defenders epic collection.
I found a book deal on the avengers slip case box set. And ordered it.
The modern avengers I am collecting though. Like Hickman 1 and 2, new avengers epic. And will get all new avengers / dark avengers / civil war epics or if they reprint any masterworks.
I’ll pick up the dark avengers epic coming out later this year as well.
The best of the 5 omnis, IMO.
Fun fact: the cover to George Perez’s first Avengers issue was redone by Perez in Vol. 3, issue 5. Can wait for this one to arrive!
As a Marvel comics reader from the era these stories were first published, a collection of them is a much needed purchase. As a kid, the work Sal Buscema did with Joe Staton was very underappreciated. Especially coming off Bob Brown's run, Sal and Joe's work was refreshing. I stumbled upon the new artist Mr. Perez and fell in love almost immediately. Almost. Vince Colletta inked those first issues (even in George's 1st FF issue) and I was so disheartened to see beautiful work being treated this way. As you can tell, I am not one of his fans.
I've seen Vince Coletta's inks destroy so many great artists ' work and replace it with dead eyed characters and weird textures that don't work. I always sigh and roll my eyes when I see his name in the credits of an issue. His bad reputation is well deserved.
TBH as a kid Ihad no idea how much Colleta was leaving out. Decades later you look back and feel cheated about what could have been.
@@nivekleveb8872 with so many innovative artists working some legendary inkers in the Marvel Bullpen one has to wonder if the Marvel editors had the artists pick a straw for Vinnie's inks.
@@uxm4life94 when I discovered that Vinnie would ERASE some of the King's work because he didn't want to ink it, made me ill. But apparently Jack liked him .
@@JayWoods483 Colleta had a reputation for being a really nice guy, who took on a lot of work and always made deadlines- which explains how he survived in the business so long despite his obvious short comings.

Sigh. This is Conan all over again. Binge purchasing all 5 books. Even worse this time since I have volumes 3 and 4 but want matching spines.
Waiting for this just got 1 to 4 and epic collection 9 and 10 next week will be a great fall read
Looking forward to this omni but I really hate the newer spine. The small font just seems wrong to me.

This is a great point in Avengers history and of course picking up the Hellcatless cover. Never much cared for her.
Off the subject here but, don't the Marvel Omnis seem to be getting anemic? I just finished DC's Great Green Lantern Corp Omni and man! It was thick. The last few DC Omnis I've purchased have had big page counts. It seems Marvel is gouging us with smaller books so we have to buy twice the amount of books that if bigger volumes were made could be done overall for less hits for the wallet. Each volume would cost a little more but in the end it would probably be cheaper for us once all the volumes where published. It seems to work for DC. I guess another case of Disney's evil greed.

They weren’t fooling anyone with these two page spreads. I worked out what they were up to at the time.

I've only been collecting comics since the New 52 era (2012-13ish?) & I can't recall Marvel or DC ever CRANKING OUT so many omnis of 1 series in 1 year till Avengers... Have you, Mr. Omar? 🤔
60th anniversary
Spider-man also got reprints of the whole thing with vol 5. X-Men also got 1-3 plus Inferno, Mutant Massacre and both Jim Lee omnis next to the release of vol 4.
I've been off and on whether I want to dive into these classic Avengers omnies. I am worried they are going read much like the classic silver age X Men omnies, where X men doesn't really become x men until the uncanny era begins. When it comes to the classic Avengers runs, when would you say the Avengers becomes "THE AVENGERS"?
For me, it's volume 3
Volume 2 when Roy Thomas starts writing and especially when he's joined by John Buscema.
This is probably awesome, but it just doesn't appeal to me. Of course, I will finally want it when the 5 volumes are OOP.

Why doesn't DC do this with their Justice League comics from the 70s/early 80s ? Jesus freaking Christ!
Uh They do? They're currently up to bronze age vol 3 and only a couple more books and it will sync up to the Detroit Era omnibus. Really it's the Post Crisis era that they've been dragging their feet on.

I like Perez a lot better on his Marvel work like Avengers that his work on Teen Titans.
I loved the Serpent Crown stories. Perez is at his peak here.
