One of my favourite 80s movies, and a shame it didn't do better at the box office as this could have been the start of a great franchise for Carl Weathers. Great work as always, Cecil.

I gotta thank you again for this video. This was on my Best Of 88 films in my school paper's new movie review column that year. (Trivia: I created the review column as a junior and, when I was supposed to move over to yearbook duties senior year, they let me stay with my column for that grade. I had dreams of replacing Siskel or Ebert when they left the air.)
Craig R. Baxley is an action movie genius. I Come In Peace is another one of my favorites.

Okay, so, check this out: Thomas F. Wilson's character worked his way up through the Detroit PD, finally achieving the rank of Detective. After an unfortunate incident, he was then transferred to East L.A.'s Narcotics division, where he was partnered with a young, hot headed, Marine by the name of Paco Aguilar.
So, yeah, Blood In Blood Out: Bound By Honor is technically a sequel to Action Jackson. Maybe not the sequel we wanted, but a sequel nonetheless.

Fun fact for you Cecil; After this film, Baxley and Silver were supposed to do an action sci-fi buddy comedy titled Man To Man, which would have been about repo man who picks up alien who's hitchhiking in Nevada desert and two of them then go on a search for his spaceship. It was written by writer of Tango & Cash and Baxley, and originally Schwarzenegger was going to star in it but then they went with Dolph Lundgren. But despite spending few million on pre-production and everything already set to start filming in Las Vegas, Silver and Baxley got into some arguments which lead to film being cancelled.

I *loved* this movie as a teenager. Discovered in on VHS and always told anyone about it I could, since it was pretty much unknown (especially here in Australia). I love how it also feels like a "best of" for so many 80's actors, especially Predator and Die Hard actors.
Speaking of which, Die Hard may indeed be the perfect action movie, but I'd easily place Action Jackson in my personal top ten, alongside huge classics like The Rock and Cliffhanger. It's just *that good*, IMO. It is indeed a crime that Carl never became a bigger star; he's not just a fun action hero but has decent acting chops too (he's great in his small Mandalorian role, I agree). He at least deserved his own action movie franchise!
