The only upgrades I would add are full fenders, rosewood dash, 2050 torque, upgrade the Alcoa's and add a deck plate. A VERY nice work truck Steve, Edited to add 36" turn outs.
Id have to agree for most applications this would be the cat's meow, but i personaly would like the 2050, with the upgraded trans and drop the rear to a 3.25, Get a bit better fuel, and still have the torque to pull stumps from the ground.
Peterbilt Steve what would be the price difference? Between what is on the truck and the upgrades? The ones that I mentioned. As well with an aluminium 5th wheel.
I have to say that it flew over my head until I read your comment. It's probably something to do with Daylight Savings Time starting at 2:00AM. Sunday.
You might have one of my all time favorite TH-cam handles, well done. Are you wanting the part number for the horns or the factory code for ordering them that way?
Hey Steve!! I'm down in sunny So Fla. We run Mack Visions with 48" bunk, bout 210 wheel base, mack power, but 10 spds and eaton rears for weight savings. We've been looking around at other makes around or under 17500 weight , not easy to do. Can Peterbilt pull that off?? Yeah,we all get on auto pilot sometimes, but how many times did you say early 140's and they kept asking, lol???
What is the weight of this truck? What are the weight differences from 10,13,and 18 speed transmissions? What is the weight savings on short hood vs long hood?
According to Eaton Fuller specs a Fuller Advantage 10 spd weight is 541 lb. FR 10 spd 592 lb, RT 690 lb. RT 13 & 18 spds 716 lb. Steve might be able to add to this. Not sure if that's dry weight or with fluids.
Peterbilt Steve someday When you have time I'd like to see the stamped weight on this day cab. Also Is a 579 much lighter than a 389? Appreciate all the videos. Very informational.
Great truck decent balance of power train and suspension for standard loads. If I ever bumped my head and wanted to buy or build a vocational rig this would be my platform of choice. In my area gross loads are heavier and permitting can exceed 100,000 therefore I'd want the 2050 torque and 44 or 46 rears with 3.90's and probably a double frame other than that this is a nice truck I hope however we are not seeing the last of a generation as the hard future of automation comes our way. Watching these videos for for drivers and owners alike gives plenty of satisfaction but my concerns are real and I would hope that a movement towards beating back the future could delay the inevitable for at least decade or two.
That 2018 day cab Pete doesn't have a fake exhaust. You can see the Y pipe @ 2:18. What's the deal? On your latest Feb 4 video titled "2018 Peterbilt 389 Day Cab Work Horse Lockers 565hp",,, you show a dummy LH exhaust, and say they come that way as not enough room to hook it up...Something fishy here????
Uhhhh not hundreds of thousands of dollars, the point is so you can pick out what style lights you want OR if this truck goes to an off road heavy duty application the purchaser may not want to hang lights on it. The option of having it pre-wired from the factory is $18, thats the real reason I do it.

Yes sir, that is about all she is missing to be in my personal dream fleet. Whats another 8-10k.....
Money well spent from a pride standpoint, not to mention resale.

That would be a great combo also!

Too bad the CAT's meow is an option of yesteryear.
Hey Steve.. cud u sometime do a video of a Pete 389 with straight pipes? I'd love to hear the roar of an x15
Good to know about the HD PTO bearing! Ever put CAT's in your new Peterbilts?
Thank you for info!
5:32 Artic insulation in the sleeper??😂 Wake up Steve 😉
I have to say that it flew over my head until I read your comment. It's probably something to do with Daylight Savings Time starting at 2:00AM. Sunday.
Very nice
Daylight saving not savings.
Haha! Yeah I get on auto pilot sometimes and random words just fall out of my pie hole. I guess people really do listen to my ramblings...
New invisible stealth sleeper!
black fenders would be cool. i like the bullet hole wheels better than the oval ones
I have two questions. Can you still hear the exhaust and, could you make a truck with a horizontal exhaust. One more thing can you start the trucks.
Yes, it is quiet but you can still hear it, yes I can get them with horizontal exhaust, I will try and remember to stat them. Thank you for watching.
I see the air horns mounted under the cab on the rear driver side. What Peterbilt part number do you use for those?
You might have one of my all time favorite TH-cam handles, well done. Are you wanting the part number for the horns or the factory code for ordering them that way?
Glad you get the joke (Talladega NIghts) LOL
Looking for the part number if you have it
I heard the X15 Cummins 500 efficiency was sick
day cabs are the best. what I drive # day cab life
I am never gonna drive a tractor trailer but you gotta start her up for me.
Ok Im on it

I can pull that off no problem. Call me if you would like me to spec one out for you. 918-808-5638
Beautiful, I drive a somewhat restored 1990 Pete all black just like this. Of course the interior is dated and destroyed unlike this one lol.
They sure can go forever if you have the time and patience
One nice daycab
sweet rig. beautiful color.
Missing a couple horns huh? I'm sure it has an under the hood horn, but love those Pete trumpets on top
Yeah they are mounted under the cab. This is my "slick top" look
Sweet ride
Appreciate it john
great daycab
Thanks

Thanks Wayne! Yes that is dry weight and short vs long is only 126 lbs. Great questions

16405 is stamped weight. A 579 specd apples to apples is only slightly lighter.
Thank you so much so hard to find this information online. I pull a hopper bottom so I am very weight conscious.
What's the pricing on this tractor? What about warranty just basic?
Early 140's, std warranty 2/250 CUmmins 3/300 trans 5/750 rears 1/100 chassis (Peterbilt)
I have seen 389's be used for heavy haul specifically 9 axle hauling. Would this work? whats the price?
yep
Used? This nice, you have to be asking at least $100,000.00 and over, those are new prices, how much?
great for fuel hauling.
Would be perfect for that.
Insulation in the sleeper??? What sleeper???🤣🤣🤣🤣

I agree and luckily no major changes mentioned for the near future.
Hello steve, can you do a glider dump chassis?
I have some on the ground and ready to go. Call me if you would like a spec sheet. These are rollers, no engine or trans.
That tractor would make a perfect grain hauler. If corn was only $7.00/bu., I'd be calling you up for a deal. Thank you for the video.
Thanks Mark, be safe out there.
love that truck! color is sexy , what kind of money I wonder?
Early 140's

You can get dual exhaust on a LONG HOOD not on a SHORT HOOD. Learn your product homie....
how much is this truck with light package installed
Early 140's
Is flex air better?
Not better or worse just lighter
Do u have gliders
I dont keep any
What's the down payment on something like this.
anywhere from 5-30k
Peterbilt Steve thanks for the response looking to get into something like this pretty soon for some coil hauling.
cmon!
DEF tank spoils the look. Rubber floor cover beats carpet any day.
Rubber is easier for sure
that peterbilt should be on air trac
Maybe for your application but the new owner said it was exactly what they wanted for their application. Thanks for watching!
Price
Prewired for lights? Why dont you put them in already! Whats the point. Im not paying hundreds of thousands of dollars for wires only
Uhhhh not hundreds of thousands of dollars, the point is so you can pick out what style lights you want OR if this truck goes to an off road heavy duty application the purchaser may not want to hang lights on it. The option of having it pre-wired from the factory is $18, thats the real reason I do it.
You couldnt wire it yourself for 18.
That's why I love my PACAR c'mon
Copy that!
insulation in the sleeper? hahaha
squint and you can see it lol......
