    I'm surprised the strings of Pasquale's guitar haven't melted from the heat of his lightning fast fingers!

    As an amateur it's clear these guys are incredible musicians within their own right, but wow Grasso is just something else. A rare example of someone who's managed to translate jazz language from a myriad of instruments and actually apply it to the guitar with mindblowing precision. I've never heard that level of musicality in a guitarist - i'd aspire to have just 20% of his talent, work ethic and musical sensibility.

    Pasquale Grasso is slowly proving himself as not just a legendary guitarist of the 21st century but as one of the jazz guitar heroes of all time. His musicality and lines when playing at burning speeds, and his picking hand! Holy shit! So relaxed and so fast!

    Thank you for another video of this amazing event to jazz guitar history!! off course Ari and Keith just as breathtaking as the legendary genius Peter Bernstein and bebop virtuoso Pasquale Grasso. Their styles go so well together, it would be magnificent if they make a record together.

    I think only now 7 years out of Philly I finally understand Chris's. I was always more of a Time guy, but Chris's is for touring national acts while Time is the "hip" and young jazz scene. Love watching these concerts, makes me feel like im back on Samson st!

    Bernstein floats over the beat like Lester Young. Grasso attacks it like Bud Powell.

  • @Chipgulbro
    @Chipgulbro 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    A question for the tone geeks. Pasquale's tone is much more muted. I am guessing this is a combo of his hands and the particular floating pickup as opposed to Peter's set in pickup which could be much hotter in db's. Thanks. Regardless its beautiful music. Of course Pasquale may have his tone turned way down too. Or the amp tone setting may be treble way low. I guess only Pasquale could clarify for sure.

    • @n1night635
      @n1night635 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I totally agree, Pasquale Grasso is a monster player and has great musicality, however his tone does seem kinda muted. I wonder if he has his tone knob rolled down a lot? That would for sure be a huge reason.

  • @jamessidney2851
    @jamessidney2851 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Pasquale was hanging on by the seat of his britches, IMO. (And that says a LOT, because we all can see that Pasquale is a monster in his own right). But Peter just shows what a couple decades of extra experience can do. His playing is so deep. And cool. And interesting without seeming busy or flashy. Two great heroes of the instrument. Pasquale may well be someday known as the best since Joseph Pasalacqua himself, but for now Peter Bernstein sets the pace.

    • @popsover9002
      @popsover9002 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You're kidding! Pasquale makes Pete sound like an amateur after his solo. You can take one fraction of Pasquale's solo and see more beautiful movements than in Pete's 3 finger solo. Man doesn't even use his pinky and you compare him to Pasquale!

    •  ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I couldn´t agree more. Pasquale is a master of technique and he burns like a mofo... Still i always find Peter´s playing much more appealing. He swings, he can burn but he always sounds more melodical, deeper, and with more things to say... One impresses the other touches your heart

    • @lgoler
      @lgoler ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Sorry, but I don’t think Joe Pass himself would’ve agreed with your statement. Joe was very humble and would’ve likely said that Pasquale is doing things on the guitar that he couldn’t even comprehend or touch. Totally different styles too, as solo guitarists and with a rhythm section. As for Peter, he always sounds great and clearly loves being there with such a swinging band. Just brilliant from everyone. Lastly, most of the comments put the two guitarists against each other in some kind of competition. Says more about their mindset than what is actually happening on the bandstand, which has not an ounce of competition.

    • @malachia8590

    I've been playing jazz for 30 years and I still don't know why some people expect me to wear a fucking suit and tie. Can I not be comfortable in Adidas. I'm not taking you out for dinner. The whole point of being a musician is you don't want to work in an office.

    • @eliaspietila_
      @eliaspietila_ 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      Because it's mature? If you're performing to an audience, then you're also expected to play the part by showing respect to those listening by appearing somewhat formal. I don't think a suit and tie specifically should be obligatory under most circumstances, but I personally feel like anything more formal than adidas is a no-brainer.

    • @acwatercolors

    • @guyamlegend
      @guyamlegend 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      If you have actually played for 30 years, surely you have noticed that people dress more traditional when they play more traditional music. The Sun Ra Arkestra also dresses to match their music, this is no different.

    • @ismaelescalante1949
      @ismaelescalante1949 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Brother in Christ, perhaps you should no longer play music. if the point is to be out of an office, you can surely do 1 million other things that don’t require anyone telling you what to wear.
      … I’m afraid that most professional working musicians usually have to wear a suit perhaps you are not at this level yet
