this is the kind of stuff I did as a teenager. churches, abandoned wineries, underground tunnels, bat caves (yes, real ones, they stink) I'm far too old now, but it sure makes me nostalgic. also, looking back I had zero self preservation instincts. that might not have been a good thing.
I was hiking in the desert a little ways outside Phoenix when I stopped for a break on a little hill and while sitting there I kept hearing what I thought were distant voices even though absolutely nothing or no one was around. I followed the sound and found a small ventilation pipe with a triangular cap at the top sticking up out of the ground basically in a little bush. It was painted brown. I dug down near the base of it and seem to hit some kind of roof and I could hear voices just barely coming from the pipe but there was no roads or anything leading to the hill or any signs that would make you think a building was in the hill. I tried going back about a year later but can't remember where it was exactly.

I was in a similar underground bunker in SC when going through SFQC. It was built for Regan and was at least 5 stories deep. We did a hostage rescue mission through it. I couldn't believe how big it was and you'd never know it was there. It wasn't stocked though, just used for Robin Sage training now.
Bet you didn't have to drag the hostages out through a pipe though!
The seriousness of that Russian bunker makes me realize how serious the Cold War threats were.

We were just as prepared, only difference is our bunkers are still occupied and maintained. So naturally they are still kept secret.
My area has a few small bunkers that where made for this but have now got turned into Tornado/Storm shelters.

Bad Gases normally just form from rotting wood, most of these bunker have very little of that in them so the Chance is pretty low, mines on the other hand, never go into one without a detector... never go in one in the first place, there dead trapps😂

yeah few years ago my friend was in the military and he snatched a mini medic gas mask and a MK gas mask and he gave them to me one thing i know is they are heavy as fuck
When I was in college I had a part time job with the university library. One day I was asked to go down in the basement and locate an extra cart. I had trouble finding one and during my search I opened a door to a stairwell that led even deeper underground. I was so curious about what was down there I went exploring. What I found was a nuclear fallout shelter but in addition to that a microfiche library. There was row after row of cabinets filled with microfiche (essentially these are documents that have been photographed and stored as negatives on a spool of film). The interesting thing was the cabinets were labeled with various technological categories. It was obvious that the library was an attempt to preserve all sorts of engineering documents - everything from steam turbines to airplanes. I would guess the library stopped being maintained sometime in the early 80s given the technology that was in the room. The amount of money and time that went into creating that library was mind boggling. But people really did believe that nuclear war was going to happen back then.

This complex seems more like it was some sort of storage facility as opposed to a safe house. It didn't seem to have provision for a huge number of people.

Unfortunately, it did happen in the Vietnam War. There is a secret point to refill ammo and food that have human live inside to maintain. Young people in America today have no idea how fragile our freedom is. I grew up during the cold war and it was a scary time that lasted decades. We could be right back in the same situation at any moment. I saw B-52 bombers every day, sometimes as many as 10 in a days time. They flew low over the mountain ranges practicing bombing runs and the techniques of nuclear war. There were often fighters and other military aircraft flying over. The news wasn't about bashing politicians that disagreed with each other. It was about the threats being posed to each and every one of us from the nuclear weapons pointed at us. Kids in schools were taught how to duck under their desks like that was somehow going to save them from nuclear war. I can see us heading back in the same direction every day, except this time we will be facing many more and stronger enemies. I hope America wakes up and young people somehow realize just how dangerous this world really is.

With the lack of lighting they had there its pretty easy to mistake one type of ammo for another, so its understandable if you would have mistaken it for something else. Although one is rimmed and the other isn't, 7,62x54R munition, which the Warsaw pact used, looks a lot like .30-06 ammo.

going into that vent, first, is what is my absolute nightmare and phobia, and i would NEVER do such a thing ever, especially since it's much easier when you're skinny built and well, i'm not at all fat, but....im definitely not 'skinny' build, so i would guaranteed get stuck. "you can, you can, bro, trust me, just double your spine 180 degrees." oh and THEN, yeah, there's also like a manhole cover blocking the way, so if you have to, just snap some ribs to pass. well done.

I once went on a schooltrip to the Ardennes. Me nd me friends being the rebels we where took some pot with us to smoke in the woods while on one of those walks where they drop you in the woods and fin d your way back. I don't know how but we managed to find our way back to the bus and when al the students where back we went to this survival area with ropes and obstacles. One of the obstacles was a pipe you crawl trough. Me being high as a fucking kite and a big boi, 6.5, got stuck and got the first panic attack in my life. I managed to crawl back and push like for people out that pipe. That start of the video just made my skin crawl and got me back into that pipe 20 years ago.
