- My live jam rendetion from Orkidea's Epic Classic track, Unity.
This is by far one of my all time favourite tracks from the good old days of trance music.
I chose Solarstones Pure Mix as a starting point for this live jam.
My version is really thin and light when compaired to the original, but I just love the melodies and feel so I just had to do a jam with this track :)
Gear list :
MC-505 : Sequencing and choir, string and main synth sounds.
Bassline, pads, backing choir, sample triggering, crash cymbal sounds and all other parts run from MC-505 besides SH-101 main line.
Patch used (Choir : Patch B081 Brightness Strings : Patch B062 OB Strings Main melody : Patch A029 MG Square)
TR-707 : Kick, Snare, Rimshot, Ride
TR-606 : Hihats
SH-101 : Analog Main synthline, run through Lexicon MPX100 delay
(SH-101 runs main line programmed to its internal sequencer triggered by TR-707's rimshot)
SP-303 : Sampling. Vocal sample edited and chopped in ableton and then sampled to SP-303. Triggered via midi.
Jupiter 8 Clone : Bass line

SH-101 is like THE character of mid90s electronic music, together with Juno-106 and TX81Z. What a great sound for something that has only 1 VCO really
Yep! SH-101 is lovely synth for sure! It's simple but powerful and Roland really got it right with the 101. All the wave forms sound great, noise and sub osc are nice additions and that classic IR3109 filter

are you compressing or EQing the 707 ? it hits hardddd here
Hi Tim, when I made this video I didn't have a soundcard with multiple inputs, so all synths and drum machines were mixed in a analog mixer. The audio was recorded from mixers stereo outs so all the instrments where in one track. I think I put some EQ and compression on final "mix" but the 707 was recorded dry without any EQ/compression.
So you're using all the 'wrong' gear to make trance, but nail it. Kudos.
Thank you for the compliment. Well you're right. The selection here is not the common trance setup with modern hyper/supersaw synths and modern drum machines ;) I just started to jam along with the melody from Unity and it grew from there. I wanted to use old gear, like producers used on old trance tracks back in 90s.

This exactly the same gear that the pioneers of Trance used in the 90's, SH-101, Groove machines, 909's, 303's, I mean spot on! Phenomenal.
