  • Escaping the urban jungle is a mandatory weekend activity for me, and today I’m exploring Singapore’s Green Corridor: 24 km or repurposed railway tracks that cuts through the center of the island from North to South.
    I also venture into Clementi Forest - one of the most gorgeous bit of wilderness you’ll see anywhere around Singapore. And yippe! I brought the drone!!

    Despite being born in Singapore and living there for a decent amount of years, I absolutely didn't know these places existed at all. Now that I'm gonna move back to Singapore from Malaysia soon, I now have places that I wanna explore thx to u. Also ur video quality is top notch despite using a 5 year old ipad to edit. Props to you and I hope u get more subs cus of the quality that ur making.

    Buddy, you won me over with your comments about the rain forest. I grew up between NYC and the Colorado Rockies. But I was always pulled in the same direction. Ended up living in Indonesia for 15 years. I’ve been deep in it - in places like Sumatra, Sulawesi, Borneo, and even New Guinea. And there is truly nothing better. It is the most magical place for me. I wouldn’t just say that time spent there is precious, but it’s as if time away is wasted. And I desperately want to return.

    During national service (armed forces duties) we used to do topo-hikes through these dense forest (sometimes in the middle of the night). No walking on tracks, bashing though the vegetation and the equatorial forest can get pretty nasty on you.
    There are other similar hikes if you are interested, mostly in the central catchment reserves (upper Pierce reservoir for example) as well as big tranches in the west (used to be reserved for the military, not sure if they are open to civilian uses now)

    that canal you chanced upon @2:34 min into your clip, is a canal that, yes you are correct, diverts flood waters during monsoon season from the rochor river as it flows along bukit timah road stretch. you were at the exposed part of the canal running along holland green. in google map view you would see a blue line (ie, the canal) linking rochor river@bukit timah to pandan river@ulu pandan in clementi. in satellite view, much of the canal would be underground.

    Have you explored the ruins of Fort Serapong? The underground bunker is a must to explore and there’s a secret entrance to it very few people know about ;) It’s a must for you to go if you’d like to explore the ruins and the forested area of serapong hill. But if you make a TH-cam video on it, many will start to flock there then haha😂

    • @SimonSaysCanada
      @SimonSaysCanada  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are tons of videos on this place (much like Istana Woodbeuk, actually), that is why I haven’t been there yet... Trying to find things that other TH-camrs don’t show, or at least I try to show them differently.
      I’ll get to Serapong hill at some point - thinking of doing a video about all the remnents of WW2 and the tragic cost it had on SG... Will see!

    • @dodo5346
      @dodo5346 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SimonSaysCanada Fort Serapong is actually very large and it consists of hidden underground bunkers etc and the whole fort is built on serapong hill. A local guide said that fort serapong is only 30% explored and the other 70% is either hidden by the overgrown or its there to be explored and found. Serapong hill is a forested area and not many will want to explore other parts of the hill because it is tiring and it can get steep at some areas. They’ve recently put up signboards explaining the history of fort serapong and I think Sentosa has plans to convert it to a hiking trail and that will certainly destroy some of its rustic charm and fun of exploring. So I would suggest you go there asap before it gets converted to a hiking trail!!

    But the question is, how many of those 24kms did you walk? 🤔

    • @SimonSaysCanada
      @SimonSaysCanada  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I’ve seen it since. They also made one about Jurong Burd Park right after mine - but I swear we did not coordinate!

    Are you aware of the no fly drone zone in Singapore. Usually not within 5km from military camp; and MINDEF camp is just next to the Green Corridor. Please check the government website first else you might get fine, arrested, drone confiscated and more.

    • @SimonSaysCanada
      @SimonSaysCanada  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don’t you worry, I am very aware. That’s why I seldom use the drone in my videos - very few legal places to do it. Fortunately, Clementi Forest and its immediate surroundings are safe zones.
      And yes - my drone is properly registered! 😉
