I work in the facility that manufactures the de-icing fluid you are using here...Type 1...as well as a few other types. We all take pride in knowing we help get people and packages to their destination no matter how cold! Great work ground crew!
@@kylelovejoy5141 ....actually it's very eco-friendly. Without getting into detail the components used to make the finished product can be moderately toxic but when brought together they pose no risk to water tables or wildlife...it's why we're the global leader. Hope that helps ya my friend!

Also at the company I worked for, driving behind any aircraft while the engines were running was forbidden! We always started from the left side tail and worked forward around the front of the aircraft.
If there is anything I miss about line work it's spraying. I could spray all day with no complaints. We were allowed to have jets running but anything with a prop needed to be shutdown. Thanks for the comment!

Do you mind if I ask why you spray it from long distance? What would be the reason for not spraying it by getting very closely to the aircraft? Is it about the chemical danger of the substance or something else? By the way it is a great video.
Mostly just to keep the bucket away from the aircraft for safety and just to be efficient. If we're too close then it can be difficult to spray the wingtip or fuselage. The propylene glycol used in the orange type 1 fluid is basically harmless in an outdoor environment though it can be dangerous if it gets in the eyes or is ingested. Thanks! I wish I made more!
Jet blast. You cant get too close to it or the engine will send you flying. Thats the reason why the driver made those wide turn and kept its distance from the engines.
As far as I'm aware, it's usually Propylene Glycol in various mixtures. Type 1 is generally used as an actual de-icer (removes ice and snow already on the airfoils), while the other types (Type 4 here) are anti-ice, they last longer and keep the airfoils from icing up, ideally long enough for the plane to get off the ground where the engines are at high enough power to run the on-board de-icing systems properly.
@@champion7991 the first fluid is heated at a very high temperature which melts any contaminations that are already there and type 4 is just a chemical that prevents ice from coming back but type 4 usally falls off the plane after take off

You did not spray the tail correctly, you should never spray from the trailing edge to leading edge. You should have sprayed at the same way you sprayed the wings leading edge to trailing edge from the tip to base. The way you sprayed runs the risk of the glycol gunking up The control mechanisms for the elevators and the rudder.
This video isn't for instructional purposes. What happens in instructional videos and what happens in real life are different things. It was good enough for the pilots so it's good enough for me.
Why are you doing it like this with outdated equipment? We have spray trucks with manual controls from inside of the cabin so you’re not exposed to the cold and it only takes 1 worker.

As a fellow deicer with many years of experience in arctic conditions I’m not impressed. So many things done wrong. From not giving leading edge any treatment to how you apply type 2. This video should be renamed how to not deice an airplane.
Airflow is disturbed when the airfoil is not clean. If the wing has any type of contamination on it, ie: frost or snow or ICE. Then the wing cannot produce lift for flight.
It can be, a little bit isn't an issue. A lot can be an issue, there is the potential for engine damage but many of those jet engines are rated to take a LOT of fluid before they have major issues.

@@hulayhussain6714 I'm not sure about de-ice fluids specifically. De-ice sprayers avoid the engines and APUs as much as possible but occasionally some does inevitably get in. When that happens it mostly just smells bad and pisses off the pilots but an accidental spray doesn't hurt anything.
The fluids are glycol blends. Type 1 the orange fluid I sprayed first is to melt and blast off snow, frost, ice, and other contaminants. Type 4 is the green fluid I sprayed second designed to keep snow off the wings and sheer off along with collected snow and ice during take off.
Didn't work. My plane crashed on the flight home yesterday after I followed instruction. Please provide greater detail to prevent this from happening in future

To see what parts are de-iced. And to see if you have used correft fluid for different weather. First liquid is to melt snow and ice, second one has longer holdover time and is more expensive. That is why it was only sprayed on a clear plane to prevent re-icing during taxi and possible hold before takeoff.

Are those cage trucks common in US? In Europe, we see pretty often closed huts on deicing trucks and cages are very rare.

Both. First is to remove and melt the existing, the second is to prevent any further ice to freeze to the aircraft.
