As a fellow deicer with many years of experience in arctic conditions I’m not impressed. So many things done wrong. From not giving leading edge any treatment to how you apply type 2. This video should be renamed how to not deice an airplane.

Why are you doing it like this with outdated equipment? We have spray trucks with manual controls from inside of the cabin so you’re not exposed to the cold and it only takes 1 worker.
If it was my choice I would have been using new equipment.
Now I know the secret.. I will do that on my Boeing c 17 globemaster parked on the street by my house.

Why do you spray it on the wings?
Airflow is disturbed when the airfoil is not clean. If the wing has any type of contamination on it, ie: frost or snow or ICE. Then the wing cannot produce lift for flight.

Damn, I don't miss that shit...Thanks for the memories...I used to get headaches after being around propylene glycol... Also at the company I worked for, driving behind any aircraft while the engines were running was forbidden! We always started from the left side tail and worked forward around the front of the aircraft.
If there is anything I miss about line work it's spraying. I could spray all day with no complaints. We were allowed to have jets running but anything with a prop needed to be shutdown. Thanks for the comment!
I was about to de-ice my 747, but my de-icer iced up. How do you de-ice an de-icer?

Why the colours?
To see what parts are de-iced. And to see if you have used correft fluid for different weather. First liquid is to melt snow and ice, second one has longer holdover time and is more expensive. That is why it was only sprayed on a clear plane to prevent re-icing during taxi and possible hold before takeoff.
