  • A snowstorm left snow piled on top of this Norwegian 737-800 bound for Copenhagen, Denmark from Oslo, Norway. The video features pushback, taxi, de-ice, and takeoff. It's certainly not something you see everyday. Enjoy!

      I did it for the better part of 36 years for a major airline in the US. We didn't have those fancy trucks with the deicer in the cab. We were in open buckets with the wind, and glycol, blowing in your face. Great fun.

    • @chriscrocvlogs
      @chriscrocvlogs 4 ปีที่แล้ว +345

      Nicholas Matthews that would be dangerous. The snow and ice on the wings would greatly restrict the air flow over the wings and there would likely not be enough lift generated for takeoff. That’s why it has to be de-iced. The aircraft could overrun the runway or lose height, basically becomes harder to fly and more risky. Those black lines on the wing are to do with this. If there’s ice within the borders of the black lines, the aircraft wings don’t need deiced as it makes sure the ice won’t affect the wing’s lift generation.

    • @chriscrocvlogs
      @chriscrocvlogs 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Mergg No friend, you are not correct about the lines on the wing. Part of the lines which mark the way to go behind the wing rather than in front and the arrows are there to show people not to go off the wing in front of the engines. Of course I didn’t list all the effects of ice and snow, just some of them. I know about this, and the BLACK LINES ARE TO DO WITH ICING. They tell the pilots of areas where some icing is okay and will not affect the wings. Watch this video before you spout lies and dis my knowledge of aviation. My uncle’s a 737 pilot, I know what I’m talking about.

      i think mentour pilot had a nice explanation about it...
      its not the amount of snow...its the weather conditions that, sometimes, even when we, as passengers, see a tiny amount of snow, make it impossible for planes to take off safely, because there is no de-icing fluid that can keep the wings clear of ice in such conditions

    I love this video
    Watching this video makes me think of my past memory of riding a Boeing 737-800 operated by Norwegian Air Shuttle in December 2017. I can’t remember where our flight originated from, but definitely not Norway. We were flying to Copenhagen, Denmark and the flight took 1 or 2 hours. On board the plane, the screens (IFEs) came down from the overhead panels, the first thing they show was a 3D animated safety video (in English version). During the flight, IFEs showed 3 shows or more. I could remember a bit of this event, since that time we’re having holiday vacation in Northern Europe (November 2017 - January 2018).
