This week in Oracle of Ages we’re venturing through the opening of Oracle of Ages; exploring the past and present as we seek the Essences of Time. We’ll find the first essence this week inside Spirit’s Grave.
Legendary Adventures is a Legend of Zelda playthrough podcast. I’m exploring the evolution of the Zelda game series by playing through each game in release order, excluding spin-offs releases.

Corrections, I misspoke a couple times and said seomthing I didn't mean.
    1. The compass key chime was first seen Link's Awakening not A Link to the Past
    2. I called the essence the Eternal Spring, its the Enternal Spirit

Very very excited about these two games in particular! I rarely hear them talked about as much as the others.

I glad to get a walk-through for the Oracle games. I only had Link’s Awakening on the original GameBoy and Phantom Hourglass for GameBoy-centered Zelda titles.

I think the candle flame design of the first dungeon might also be a reference to how a soul is portrait in Japanese media, being that ghosts are the theme here.
    Great video btw ^^
I'm surprised of how much I like the music of the game so far, it sounds magical and childlike/nostalgic in some way

I can't believe it took me this long to make the connection between the artwork cut-scenes and Capcom, despite the fact that they were using this technique in Street Fighter all the time 😓

I remember in Oracle of Seasons you can easily sequence skip the 4th Dungeon and skip straight to the 5th (or maybe it was skip 5th and go to 6th?). No special tricks, just explore around with the tools you have.
If you do sequence break the dungeons, when you leave the 5th the Deku Tree will just repeat the message to go to the 4th. And then when you do the 5th, you get the message to go to the 6th. Thus the text saying to go to the 5th can become "lost content"

Found out there’s an emulator for the IPhone called “Delta”. I knew this was your next video so I started playing this last week. It’s nice to play along kinda at the same time. Currently playing wind walker too.

The size of the rooms was my biggest issue with ages and seasons. there is a lot of empty space in a lot of the dungeons.

Hah, a scene-setting "still image / cut scene" doesn't feel like ONLY Capcom could have done it, but it is an interesting way to show this isn't Zelda as we know it. That Flagship does their games story first, gameplay second feels pretty clear now... still, fun idea to go with a "ghost" temple first, of all themes. Wonder if it's meant to represent the horror of Link's Mission control this time around not only being hot for him, but she's an actual tree.... like... talk about being a "wooden" kisser. And the splinters alone would be too big an issue.

Are the Oracle games the first use of "Hyrulean" as a descriptor for people and things from Hyrule? I remember after Ocarina of Time (my first Zelda), thinking "Hylian" was the term, but then I started seeing (the IMHO much worse) "Hyrulean" instead at some point, implying "Hylian" referred to something else never quite explained. Did *these* games start that?
A tree giving you the means to burn other trees feels rather sinister...

Yes, the Oracle games do have the first use of Hyrulean.
It's unused, but maybe implied, in A Link to the Past. That game refers to the Hylia as a people who used to inhabit the kingdom, and suggests that to the extent that the bloodline of the Hylian people is still found in Hyrule, it has diminished. As you know Ocarina of Time is fully in with Hylian, but it's intended to be a prequel.
Anyway, based those games plus the introduction of Hyrulean here, it seems to me Hylian refers to a specific race or ethnicity. Specifically the humans in Zelda games with long elf-like ears. While Hyrulean would more broadly apply to any citizen of Hyrule.
As for the Maku Tree, I hadn't thought about it, but I think you're right.
