hi guys, i'm from (england) & i was a big big fan of "cream" in the 70s. the band consisted of (eric clapton) lead guitarist, (jack bruce) bass guitarist & singer & (ginger baker) drummer, who insidently was rated has one of the top drummers in the world at the time. next to (gene krupper) from the states.
Sadly, Eric is the only living member of Cream. They were together just 2 short years, but they made a major impact on classic rock during their time. Never get tired of listening to the first fantastic power trio
Many years ago I heard this song on the radio ( had already heard it many times), and whoever the radio announcer was told a story of Elton John saying he'd been passing by a studio (I'm assuming he meant recording studio) where he saw and heard the cream, and both Clapton and Jack Bruce were exchanging vocals. When I hear this song I can definitely hear the different voices exchanging lead, and the story that radio announcer told confirms that in my mind.
Amber is seriously one of the best music critics I've ever heard. Her love for musical sounds hits her soul deep down inside. Love how she appreciates so many genres from 1960's onward and seeks to understand what the songs are all about. Love it!

Eric Clapton's catalogue is so great, when he was with blind faith, loved In the presence of my Lord, with Derrick and the Dominoes, yes Layla, but I really also love Let it Rain. Love him with Steve Winwood, Dear Mr. Fantasy. Can't Find my way Home. Love his time with J.J. Cale and the Tulsa sound. J.J. Cale was absolutely awesome. Eric has been my absolute influence on the guitar. Badge is a great cream song.
Yes, this was a British group. Their first album, "Fresh Cream", came out in 1966; this song, off the "Disraeli Gears" album, a year later, changed the complexion of guitar playing forever, with Eric Clapton's brilliant solo work. The lead singer is Jack Bruce, the bassist, with Clapton harmonizing and singing intermittent lead lines in a "call and answer" manner. Ginger Baker does amazing drum work on the toms. Incredible, iconic song.
Ginger Baker was such an insane drummer he would tape his sticks to his hands when they played in concert. Now that you know Clapton was in Cream, you now have to react to Derrick and the Domino’s.
Ginger Baker, “The Fabulous Mr. Baker”, was a fantastic drummer! He hit them hard and hit them right. Cream was a fabulous band. It’s too bad they didn’t last long, but they did have some issues.
Yeah, they were so good as individuals, it was hard for them to play as a band...Plus Ginger and Jack would fight every other day...I'm actually shocked that Eric lasted 3 years with those phenomenal nut cases!!
They weren't called "The Cream" for nothing. They were THE CREAM, Ginger Baker (drums), Jack Bruce (bass), and Eric Clapton (guitar). Early on, Jack Bruce was doing all of the vocals, until Eric became more comfortable singing. The more powerful voice you are hearing is Jack.

Just those three and the music is so full yet clear. Love how the old recordings keep drums on the right, guitar and bass on the left, and vocals in the center.

Cream are often called the first 'supergroup'. Three amazing talents! They were around in the mid 60s and no one sounded like Cream at that time. They were well ahead of the game and paved the way for artists like Hendrix, Zeppelin, Deep Purple and the heavy rock explosion that was to follow in the late 60s and 70s. Jack Bruce, the bassist is the singer on this one, although Clapton harmonises at times. Bruce and Clapton shared vocals, with one or the other taking the lead, depending on the song. Bruce was lead more often though. Bruce was a fantastic bassist and Ginger Baker was one of the best drummers of all-time! Cream were truly groundbreaking and genre setting, as well as being hugely successful. Unfortunately Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker didn't really get on, coming to blows on occasion. Thus they were relatively short-lived, only producing 4 albums. Their influence, however, was enormous! :)
Jack Bruce (Bass) and Eric Clapton (Guitar) can both be heard singing on this song although Bruce is the primary lead vocalist. After you have spent more time with Eric Clapton you will be able to differentiate between the two voices. Notice that there is very little cymbal work by Ginger Baker on this song. The 2005 Reunion concert filmed at The Royal Albert Hall is a great way to see and hear them live.
@@johnathandavis3693 there is actually a lot of cymbal crashes in the chorus, guitar solo and in almost every down beat in the 3rd verse, it's just muffled in the mix but you can hear it in this video. The first two verses don't have them

Eric never thought of himself as a vocalist. But his bandmates here encouraged him to try, and much to his surprise, he could sing pretty well. He even sang lead on a couple of their songs, although it was usually Jack.
Ginger Baker is one of the GOAT drummers. Just incredible, driving, POWER. He's hitting his tom-toms alot in this. He was one of the first to use the double-base drum set up, and he was a master. "White Room" is a good Ginger song, if you like these drums...

Exactly right. When I was a kid I had a friend who introduced me to this band and told me Ginger Baker was one of the best drummers in the world, including Buddy Rich. My friend grew up to be a very successful California D J. So maybe he knew what he was talking about. Good selection.
It's fantastic watching you youngsters discover and appreciate music from a bygone era. Your generation seems to be more receptive to 'classic' music than most. I grew up in the eighties. Listing to music 50+ years old would be akin to me rocking out to Cole Porter. Anyhow...if you're into this style of music, which you seem to be, might I suggest listening to "Psychotic Reaction" by The Count Five. It's definitely a banger.
listening to the absolute garbage they churn out as "new" music these days, no wonder they are all looking back at when music was made by musicians who could actually play their instruments and actually perform live!
I grew up in the 60’s early 70’s and I enjoy stations like this for the same reason. In today’s crazy times, it nice to watch things that are just fun!
What's odd to me are reading comments calling Cream, and other rock bands I grew up listening to, a bygone era. I've never left and I find it interesting when I watch young people discover the music I listened to as a teenager. My daughters grew up listening to this, and now my grand kids rock out with grandpa!
Little story. In 1968, I heard Cream live in the basement auditorium of the San Diego Convention Center. Everyone sat yoga style on the floor. Before the band came out, the roadies carried out Ginger Bakers drum kit screwed to a sheet of plywood, and nailed it to the stage. I thought "that's pretty pretentious." I did not understand why until Ginger Baker, one of the greatest rock drummers of all time, started pounding on that kit during the concert. Holy Moley! During the concert he did a drum solo while Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce, the bassist, took a break. The song was titled "Toad". It is on one of their albums. Seeing them live at the onset of their careers in such an intimate setting is still a lifelong memory. You made me smile listening to this song.
The live version of Crossroads is the ultimate Cream track for me! This group in the late sixties were the first real “supergroup”, formed of top class musicians with backgrounds in jazz and blues. They opened the way for power rock with bands like Deep Purple following their example. Sadly both Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker are no longer with us, but their amazing legacy lives on!
One of THE monster riffs of all time. This one, along with "Smoke on the Water," are the riffs every beginning guitarist wants to learn to play immediately. Cream was one of the first (if not THE first) bands to be called a "supergroup." What's that? It's easy: Get your best all-star guitarist, your best all-star bassist, your best all-star drummer. Match 'em up and you've got what they used to call a supergroup. I think this was the first band to be called that. (Am I forgetting an earlier one?) The "supergroup" never lasted more than an album or two. Just too much ego all around.
Yeah, the ego thing. Roger Waters, Greg Lake, etc, etc. Their brilliance shown the brightest when they were together ususally and I think some of them regretted leaving.
I think Cream released three albums before they split. Only lasted about two or three years. Totally agree about Deep Purple with Smoke on the Water. Cream is definitely psychedelic rock, you can hear similarities with Hendrix.
Cream is the Cream of the Crop, to me. Jack Bruce was a monster bass player, singer and song writer, and Ginger Baker is deservedly regarded as among the best drummers in any period, ever. We all of course know Eric Clapton's name and everyone with any sense sings his accolades. This is also my favorite song by that band simply because I really dig the bassline and guitar riff. You picked the right sound to introduce yourselves to Rock royalty, with these fellas.
Eric Clapton-guitar, Jack Bruce-bass and vocals, Ginger Baker-drums. They were a supergroup, each of them considered among the best to play their instruments. PERIOD. Ginger plays a lot on the tom toms, plays a lot of rhythms that are like tribal type patterns, not like anyone else in rock. Clapton sings some of their tracks but this is Jack Bruce and Jack sings most of their records.

Ginger got turned on to African drum music early in his life and it shows in his style with Cream. For much more, check out the doc "Beware of Mr. Baker" if you haven't already.

Drummer is a maniac. He's got like three beats going at once. Clapton's solo is interesting - and I think Brad felt it - he's behind the pocket, almost lolligagging at first, then gets out in front of the pocket. Genius. There are two people trading verses singing. Jack Bruce and Clapton. They harmonize on the bridge.
They cut off the ending. It goes on a tiny bit longer. Also, hippies did like rock; hippie and rock are not separate, not at all, but during the hippie era, rock didn't only mean aggressive stuff. Cream's biggest hits were this one, "Strange Brew" (1967), "White Room" (1968), "Crossroads" (1968), and "I Feel Free" (1966). They were all over the radio back then.
You guys should check out Iron Butterfly- In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. It's from 1968. I first heard it on the radio in my Dad's car one morning when he was taking us to school. We ended up just sitting in the car listening to it before we pulled out to leave. It's about 17 minutes long.
Well, if you're a guy, I get it. Every guy in my senior class in high school, including my high school boyfriend, loved it. But as for me, not so much. I'm guessing most females felt the same.... Oh, but wait. Nowdays that's a P.C. politically incorrect statement.
I saw Iron Butterfly in 1969 at So Ill Univ - Edwardsville at the Mississippi River Festival. In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida lasted over 30 min., almost 45 min, and became very boring. Because of the lengthy drum solo they lost the concept of the song. Butterfly’s opening act was actually much better, Blues Image.
My favorite Eric Clapton/Cream song was "Badge" back in the day. Spent so much time dancing to all of Cream's songs at the local teenage live band hangout. That was over 50 years ago! Amazing how this song brings it all back!

That’s Bruce on the first and third part of the verse and Clapton singing the middle part of the verses . Listen close and you’ll hear the difference their voices. Cream was the first “Super Group” with all the best musicians. A trio of guitar , bass and drums playing blues/rock with improvised solos that sometimes lasted 15 minutes.
RIP Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker, among my favourite bass players and drummers respectively. Sunshine Of Your Love, Strange Brew, White Room, Tales Of Brave Ulysses and Crossroads are all worth a listen.
My hometown was pretty generous to young people in the late 60’s and built a cinder brick structure known as “The Bandshell”on a vacant lot downtown for local garage bands to play. I lived close enough to hear songs like this as I lay in my little backyard tent as a boy and for some reason Sunshine of Your Love was the only one stuck in my memory, since it was so iconic I guess. It was a great time to be a kid.
What jumps out to me is the difference in how drums sound then compared to now. Phil Collins changed the game in the 80's when he introduced gated reverb to drum kit. Things have never been the same ever since. Ginger Baker, the drummer, was one of the best drummers of the era.
The first ‘supergroup’, three gentlemen who play blues rock to psychedelia, sounding like a small army. Only lasted a couple of years to 1968, great live.
Hendrix was a HUGE Clapton fan and covered this tune in some live shows right after it was released. When Jimi first discussed going to England the first thing he asked his manager was "can I meet Clapton?!?" lol
Ginger Baker spent months in Africa and incorporated those beats into his drumming, which makes his playin so unique. The dual voices of Jack Bruce and Eric Clapton are so powerful!
Actually, his time in Africa happened several years after Cream ended. But yeah, he was the first Western Musician who actively incorporated African rhythms and collaborated with African artists. That album he did with Fela Kuti is just mind blowing.

He also teamed up with Ransome Fela Kuti from Nigeria,who was sadly killed by government agents because of his outspoken views on the Nigerian president.
Man, Cream was aptly named, they are definitely the cream of the crop. Or were, I guess I should say, since we've lost so many people from that era. I was raised on this stuff, and I have never been more grateful than when I watch people discovering this music for the 1st time, when it makes me realize how blessed I have been in my musical education. Cream - Considered to be the world's first super group. Formed in '66, they split up in '68 because of tensions between Baker and Bruce. though they were persuaded to make one more album and do a tour, with the final concerts at the Albert Hall.
At 3:57, Clapton's guitar line plays a riff from "Blue Moon", a standard from the 1930's that many jazz singers have covered. Love the way he snuck that in! OMG Yes! How come I never noticed that before? Blue Moon is covered a lot. My parents love the slow version of The Mavericks with the superb voice of Raul Malo.
Here's the story on how this song came to be: Bass player and main song writer Jack Bruce and Lyricist Pete Brown actively sat down and pulled an all nighter to write a song, ANY song because they just couldn't get it together. So having declared that writing session a failure, Bruce picked up his bass fiddle and from the top of his head started playing that riff. As he was doing so, Brown looked out of the window and remarked "It's getting near dawn." Within a few minutes, that song they were trying their hardest to write had written itself. So when Brown and Bruce went into the studio and presented to song to Eric Clapton and drummer Ginger Baker, it was Baker who suggested that they'd slow the song down to half its tempo and Baker, who studied African music (And would later work with legendary African musician Fela Kuti) began to play those tribal rhythms which gave this song it's groove. As for Clapton, he started to quote the old song "Blue moon" in the solo, which had the others laughing but it fit in so perfectly, they ended up keeping it.

My first album! Played and played this one! It was early, heavier, psychedelic sound. We played it LOUD! These THREE were masterclass musicians and creatively set a harder rock path that was SO INFLUENTIAL for subsequent rockers! Groundbreaking!
Clapton sang the one repeat line "I've been waiting so long" in the instant right before you paused it when you spotted him in the band. If you go back to that moment, at about the 7:40 mark, you can clearly hear his voice, distinct from Jack Bruce singing.

Cream had several amazing songs. “White Room” and “Crossroads” are fantastic, and definitely worth checking out. I also would have to recommend “Hideaway” by John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers to really hear what I at least consider to be Eric Clapton at his best.
If you've seen "The Breakfast Club" John Bender does this riff. "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" played Cream singing 'Tales of Brave Ulysses', it was Giles & Joyce's song. While Clapton does some singing bass player Jack Bruce sang lead mostly, they duet on this song. 'Badge' is another great one, Clapton wrote it with George Harrison. 'Born Under a Bad Sign' and 'I Feel Free' are other hits.
Actually it was The Yardbirds that catapulted Eric Clapton to stardom.. With Cream he skyrocketed but he was already famous for having left The Yardbirds because they had a hit song.. and Jeff Beck became famous as the guitarist who replaced Eric in The Yardbirds after having been recommended by a session guitarist named Jimmy Page..
And when Eric left John Mayall Blues Band, Peter Green replaced him until he left to form the original Fleetwood Mac. I keep asking them to react to the original Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green. Oh Well woukd be a great song to start with.

I'm ceaselessly amazed by the realization that my own foundation stones of music are new to younger listeners. This song is an iconic key to rock and roll. Cream was Eric Clapton's breakout group. Insiders knew him as a member of the Yardbirds -- Cream was the group where he emerged as a star. Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce were the very best in the business.
Jack Bruce, a Scot, is le4ad vocals, bass, and main song writer. Ginger Baker on drums; one of the really great drummers (but a difficult human to get along with at times), and of course E.C. on guitar. My personal Cream favourite is the Robert Johnson blues classic "Crossroads" with E.C. on lead vocals for a change.
Eric is so incredible, this band was absolutely tight, each one virtually the best at their craft. My favorite is White room, but I love all their music. Great comment Rocket.
"Crossroads" was one of Clapton's signature songs. There's a great slow and long version he did with the Dominos, and another favorite version of mine is from the Sandy Relief concert (12-12-12).

Both this and White Room are great, but the whole album Sunshine of Your Love came from (Disraeli Gears) is well worth a listen.

They weren't called "The Cream" for nothing. They were THE CREAM, Ginger Baker (drums), Jack Bruce (bass), and Eric Clapton (guitar). Early on, Jack Bruce was doing all of the vocals, until Eric became more comfortable singing. The more powerful voice you are hearing is Jack.

Cream are often called the first 'supergroup'. Three amazing talents! They were around in the mid 60s and no one sounded like Cream at that time. They were well ahead of the game and paved the way for artists like Hendrix, Zeppelin, Deep Purple and the heavy rock explosion that was to follow in the late 60s and 70s. Jack Bruce, the bassist is the singer on this one, although Clapton harmonises at times. Bruce and Clapton shared vocals, with one or the other taking the lead, depending on the song. Bruce was lead more often though. Bruce was a fantastic bassist and Ginger Baker was one of the best drummers of all-time! Cream were truly groundbreaking and genre setting, as well as being hugely successful. Unfortunately Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker didn't really get on, coming to blows on occasion. Thus they were relatively short-lived, only producing 4 albums. Their influence, however, was enormous! :)
Jack Bruce (Bass) and Eric Clapton (Guitar) can both be heard singing on this song although Bruce is the primary lead vocalist. After you have spent more time with Eric Clapton you will be able to differentiate between the two voices.
Notice that there is very little cymbal work by Ginger Baker on this song.

I was able to attend the 2005 Reunion in Madison Square Garden.
Cymbals were a no no in the studio back then. They hadn't figured out how to record them so drummers weren't allowed to hit them. ;)

Ginger is playing 8th notes on His floor Tom. That Is the drum giving that unique sound and accenting with His snare...Ginger was one of a kind just like Keith Moon with the Who ! Jack Bruce the bass player Is singing Lead vocals and Eric Clapton Is singing the backup vocals !
Eric never thought of himself as a vocalist. But his bandmates here encouraged him to try, and much to his surprise, he could sing pretty well. He even sang lead on a couple of their songs, although it was usually Jack.
Sunshine is pretty much a duet between Eric and Bruce though, they trading off verses back and forth.

It's fantastic watching you youngsters discover and appreciate music from a bygone era. Your generation seems to be more receptive to 'classic' music than most. I grew up in the eighties. Listing to music 50+ years old would be akin to me rocking out to Cole Porter. Anyhow...if you're into this style of music, which you seem to be, might I suggest listening to "Psychotic Reaction" by The Count Five. It's definitely a banger.

What's odd to me are reading comments calling Cream, and other rock bands I grew up listening to, a bygone era. I've never left and I find it interesting when I watch young people discover the music I listened to as a teenager. My daughters grew up listening to this, and now my grand kids rock out with grandpa!
Little story. In 1968, I heard Cream live in the basement auditorium of the San Diego Convention Center. Everyone sat yoga style on the floor. Before the band came out, the roadies carried out Ginger Bakers drum kit screwed to a sheet of plywood, and nailed it to the stage. I thought "that's pretty pretentious." I did not understand why until Ginger Baker, one of the greatest rock drummers of all time, started pounding on that kit during the concert. Holy Moley! During the concert he did a drum solo while Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce, the bassist, took a break. The song was titled "Toad". It is on one of their albums. Seeing them live at the onset of their careers in such an intimate setting is still a lifelong memory. You made me smile listening to this song.

The live version of Crossroads is the ultimate Cream track for me! This group in the late sixties were the first real “supergroup”, formed of top class musicians with backgrounds in jazz and blues. They opened the way for power rock with bands like Deep Purple following their example. Sadly both Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker are no longer with us, but their amazing legacy lives on!

One of THE monster riffs of all time. This one, along with "Smoke on the Water," are the riffs every beginning guitarist wants to learn to play immediately. Cream was one of the first (if not THE first) bands to be called a "supergroup." What's that? It's easy: Get your best all-star guitarist, your best all-star bassist, your best all-star drummer. Match 'em up and you've got what they used to call a supergroup. I think this was the first band to be called that. (Am I forgetting an earlier one?) The "supergroup" never lasted more than an album or two. Just too much ego all around.

Yeah, the ego thing. Roger Waters, Greg Lake, etc, etc. Their brilliance shown the brightest when they were together ususally and I think some of them regretted leaving.

I think Cream released three albums before they split. Only lasted about two or three years. Totally agree about Deep Purple with Smoke on the Water. Cream is definitely psychedelic rock, you can hear similarities with Hendrix.

Cream is the Cream of the Crop, to me. Jack Bruce was a monster bass player, singer and song writer, and Ginger Baker is deservedly regarded as among the best drummers in any period, ever. We all of course know Eric Clapton's name and everyone with any sense sings his accolades. This is also my favorite song by that band simply because I really dig the bassline and guitar riff. You picked the right sound to introduce yourselves to Rock royalty, with these fellas.

Ginger plays a lot on the tom toms, plays a lot of rhythms that are like tribal type patterns, not like anyone else in rock. Clapton sings some of their tracks but this is Jack Bruce and Jack sings most of their records.

They cut off the ending. It goes on a tiny bit longer. Also, hippies did like rock; hippie and rock are not separate, not at all, but during the hippie era, rock didn't only mean aggressive stuff. Cream's biggest hits were this one, "Strange Brew" (1967), "White Room" (1968), "Crossroads" (1968), and "I Feel Free" (1966). They were all over the radio back then.
You guys should check out Iron Butterfly- In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. It's from 1968. I first heard it on the radio in my Dad's car one morning when he was taking us to school. We ended up just sitting in the car listening to it before we pulled out to leave. It's about 17 minutes long.

I saw Iron Butterfly in 1969 at So Ill Univ - Edwardsville at the Mississippi River Festival. In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida lasted over 30 min., almost 45 min, and became very boring. Because of the lengthy drum solo they lost the concept of the song. Butterfly’s opening act was actually much better, Blues Image.

My favorite Eric Clapton/Cream song was "Badge" back in the day. Spent so much time dancing to all of Cream's songs at the local teenage live band hangout. That was over 50 years ago! Amazing how this song brings it all back!

That’s Bruce on the first and third part of the verse and Clapton singing the middle part of the verses . Listen close and you’ll hear the difference their voices. Cream was the first “Super Group” with all the best musicians. A trio of guitar , bass and drums playing blues/rock with improvised solos that sometimes lasted 15 minutes.
Jack Bruce did the majority of the singing for Cream.
RIP Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker, among my favourite bass players and drummers respectively. Sunshine Of Your Love, Strange Brew, White Room, Tales Of Brave Ulysses and Crossroads are all worth a listen.

I was a kid in the sixties, but we still had the Beatles and the Monkees on Saturday mornings. In December of 1969, I turned 13.
I've been feeling old lately, but the Rob squad keeps reminding me of the awesome music we have lived throughh
My hometown was pretty generous to young people in the late 60’s and built a cinder brick structure known as “The Bandshell”on a vacant lot downtown for local garage bands to play. I lived close enough to hear songs like this as I lay in my little backyard tent as a boy and for some reason Sunshine of Your Love was the only one stuck in my memory, since it was so iconic I guess. It was a great time to be a kid.
What jumps out to me is the difference in how drums sound then compared to now. Phil Collins changed the game in the 80's when he introduced gated reverb to drum kit. Things have never been the same ever since. Ginger Baker, the drummer, was one of the best drummers of the era.

Ginger Baker spent months in Africa and incorporated those beats into his drumming, which makes his playin so unique. The dual voices of Jack Bruce and Eric Clapton are so powerful!
Actually, his time in Africa happened several years after Cream ended. But yeah, he was the first Western Musician who actively incorporated African rhythms and collaborated with African artists. That album he did with Fela Kuti is just mind blowing.

Man, Cream was aptly named, they are definitely the cream of the crop. Or were, I guess I should say, since we've lost so many people from that era. I was raised on this stuff, and I have never been more grateful than when I watch people discovering this music for the 1st time, when it makes me realize how blessed I have been in my musical education.

Cream - Considered to be the world's first super group. Formed in '66, they split up in '68 because of tensions between Baker and Bruce. though they were persuaded to make one more album and do a tour, with the final concerts at the Albert Hall.

At 3:57, Clapton's guitar line plays a riff from "Blue Moon", a standard from the 1930's that many jazz singers have covered. Love the way he snuck that in! OMG Yes! How come I never noticed that before? Blue Moon is covered a lot. My parents love the slow version of The Mavericks with the superb voice of Raul Malo.
Here's the story on how this song came to be: Bass player and main song writer Jack Bruce and Lyricist Pete Brown actively sat down and pulled an all nighter to write a song, ANY song because they just couldn't get it together. So having declared that writing session a failure, Bruce picked up his bass fiddle and from the top of his head started playing that riff. As he was doing so, Brown looked out of the window and remarked "It's getting near dawn." Within a few minutes, that song they were trying their hardest to write had written itself.
So when Brown and Bruce went into the studio and presented to song to Eric Clapton and drummer Ginger Baker, it was Baker who suggested that they'd slow the song down to half its tempo and Baker, who studied African music (And would later work with legendary African musician Fela Kuti) began to play those tribal rhythms which gave this song it's groove.
As for Clapton, he started to quote the old song "Blue moon" in the solo, which had the others laughing but it fit in so perfectly, they ended up keeping it.

My first album! Played and played this one! It was early, heavier, psychedelic sound. We played it LOUD! These THREE were masterclass musicians and creatively set a harder rock path that was SO INFLUENTIAL for subsequent rockers! Groundbreaking!

Clapton sang the one repeat line "I've been waiting so long" in the instant right before you paused it when you spotted him in the band. If you go back to that moment, at about the 7:40 mark, you can clearly hear his voice, distinct from Jack Bruce singing.

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" played Cream singing 'Tales of Brave Ulysses', it was Giles & Joyce's song. While Clapton does some singing bass player Jack Bruce sang lead mostly, they duet on this song.
'Badge' is another great one, Clapton wrote it with George Harrison. 'Born Under a Bad Sign' and 'I Feel Free' are other hits.
Actually it was The Yardbirds that catapulted Eric Clapton to stardom.. With Cream he skyrocketed but he was already famous for having left The Yardbirds because they had a hit song.. and Jeff Beck became famous as the guitarist who replaced Eric in The Yardbirds after having been recommended by a session guitarist named Jimmy Page..
And when Eric left John Mayall Blues Band, Peter Green replaced him until he left to form the original Fleetwood Mac. I keep asking them to react to the original Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green. Oh Well woukd be a great song to start with.

This song is an iconic key to rock and roll. Cream was Eric Clapton's breakout group. Insiders knew him as a member of the Yardbirds -- Cream was the group where he emerged as a star. Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce were the very best in the business.
Jack Bruce, a Scot, is le4ad vocals, bass, and main song writer. Ginger Baker on drums; one of the really great drummers (but a difficult human to get along with at times), and of course E.C. on guitar. My personal Cream favourite is the Robert Johnson blues classic "Crossroads" with E.C. on lead vocals for a change.
Eric is so incredible, this band was absolutely tight, each one virtually the best at their craft. My favorite is White room, but I love all their music. Great comment Rocket.
"Crossroads" was one of Clapton's signature songs. There's a great slow and long version he did with the Dominos, and another favorite version of mine is from the Sandy Relief concert (12-12-12).
