      This seems like a pretty subjective thing. My brother would say it's Rush and he'd have a solid argument. I might argue ZZ Top. My ex would say it was The Police without even a moment's hesitation. My cousin would unabashedly proclaim it was Nirvana. Someone more metal-oriented might point to Motorhead. Who we think is the greatest, or finest, has a lot to do with what type of music we favor.
      The original point stands, however: Cream is certainly in the discussion, and probably a frontrunner.

    This tune came out while the radio was playing stuff like "I Want to hold Your Hand" (later but you get the idea) and in a lot of places didn't get much air time on top 40 radio. It was also about the time of FM radio playing progressive rock that helped bring this great music to the masses.

    • @jackattack2608
      @jackattack2608 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This was quite a few years before FM radio became commonplace. This album, when first released, was in mono, not stereo. Most people had really bad needles on terrible turntables before good stereo systems and components were starting to become widely available. For most kids who had Beatles albums and Cream, these good systems were unaffordable, at least in the States. These albums were normally torn up by the needles long ago. If you have the original mono in decent shape it could be worth a fortune.

    The riff was created by their bass player, and usually lead singer, Jack Bruce, with the words by his co-writer poet Pete Brown. Drummer Peter ‘Ginger’ Baker and on guitar Eric Clapton. Eric sings some lines on this if you listen closely. At the very end they alternate singing the last line ‘I’ve been waiting so long’, so you can hear their different voices. You reaction is similar to my own as a 13/14 year old in 1967 when this was released.

    Cream was a ground breaking rock band. One of Rock's 1st Power Trios. Their heavy sound & awesome guitar paved the way for Heavy Metal. They were one of rock's 1st & greatest "Super groups" comprised of musicians who were stars prior this union. Clapton was the 2nd voice in this song. Jack Bruce the 1st voice & bass. Ginger Baker the beast on the drums. This song was inspired by their friend & rival Jimi Hendrix. Their sound influenced Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, & pretty much all hard rock that followed. Clapton whales on the live version of "Crossroads". I also like "I Feel Free".

    Jack Bruce’s vocals and driving bass lines,Eric Clapton’s guitar riffs and Ginger Bakers thumping drums just doesn’t get any better,I was 15 when this came out and it still hits the spot.

    Their music spanned many genres of rock music, including blues rock ("Crossroads", "Born Under a Bad Sign"), psychedelic rock ("Tales of Brave Ulysses", "White Room"), and hard rock ("Sunshine of Your Love", "SWLABR"). In their career, they sold more than 15 million records worldwide.[3] The group's third album, Wheels of Fire (1968), is the world's first platinum-selling double album.[4][5]
    In 1993, Cream were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

    Cream was even earlier than 70s! They were only together for 2 years, 1966-68. I used to play this album ALL the time! Much love from an old hippie chick! ❤

    Sunshine came out in 68. It was Creams first hit that put them on the map. Jimi Hendrix covered this and played it for Clapton and the boys at a London night club.

    1967, Power trio that created the hard rock genre in just two epic albums. Try the song Politician, a Jack Bruce classic, super duper heavy, beat.

    I loved Graham Bond Organisation which featured Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker. When they formed Cream with one of the greatest guitarists, Eric Clapton, I was blown away. HOWEVER, listening today was a great disappointment. It has not traveled well.😊
