as an apprentice I worked on the stage 1a of the wings on the Skyvan production line at Shorts, Queens Island factory in Belfast. I have bought this for my MSFS and loved taking off from Belfast City (EGAC) and flying over my home city. Thanks for the video - very helpful.
As someone that lives in Belfast and used to see Short 330s and 360s landing as a kid, it's amazing to see more Short planes in the sim, a bit more attention to these amazing creations, and our little country in a non-bombing related sense! I'm a big 330 and 360 fan, and love the Blackbox variants, not sure this would be worth the space it takes up, but looks pretty faithfully recreated. Great video as always!
Oh boy!!! I grew up in Kathmandu and Nepal Army would fly their SC7 Skyvan (RAN-19) when I was a kid around all the time. We used to live near an army training centre and they'd paratroopers on practice run once in a while. I'm gonna have to make a RAN-19 livery for this!
My dad worked for the Sultan of Oman in the ‘70s, he maintained the sole Huey on Masirah Island. I was lucky enough to visit for six weeks, I spent most of my time flying in various military aircraft, the Huey nearly every day, mostly in the left hand seat, but I was also dropped off in various parts of the island and then getting “rescued”, via the winch. This was before Health and Safety was a thing. I also got a few flights in Strikemaster, which was fantastic, however, I fell in love with the Skyvan, it was noisy and teeth rattling, had its own distinctive smell, the great thrill for me was how the pilots flew the aircraft! They threw it around and would rather do “Khe San” approaches and (very) STOL. They used it as Shorts intended. I was a very lucky kid.
Love your voice overs It's one of my favourite aircraft bought it early yesterday not to happy that the wipers don't work but apart from that she's great.
Another great presentation.... Thank you.... Quite a quirky little aircraft, I'm already enjoying the Black Box Shorts 330/360 version I think they are perfectly adequate for me... Roger... Pembrokeshire
Great video as usual! I’m on the fence about buying this add-on. Part of me wishes there were more Garrett powered planes in the sim. I’ve never flown the real Skyvan, but I have flown quite a few flavors of Garrett powered Commander 690s. We taxi those airplanes with the condition levers in low idle and regularly pull the power levers into beta to help mitigate that “running away” feeling while taxiing, so that seems pretty true to life in this particular add-on.
I have it. Stick and ruddder flying again. I also find it to be trim sensitive. One thing I am really disappointed with is… where’s the pure cargo version? That’s mainly what it was designed for. I would really like to see how much survey flying there is by the flt sim community. I think there are several freight dogs like myself who were looking forward to flying all sorts of cargo in and out of some very short, tough air strips. 😢
Skycan is my all time favorite plane to jump from Nothing like a rear exit. Now I gotta make my way out to perris ca and jump thier jet. Not sure model but commercial airliner converted for jumping. This year is forst year back flying in 10 years
So the Caribou is laughing, “Now, who said I was an ugly airplane?” I use to travel back and forth to Atlanta on an ASA Short 360-100 ("garden shed"). Never had a smooth flight.
If I and Homer S. built an airplane for our kids in the back yard to play with...it would be a plywood version which is what this looks like to me. Doh!
Love this 'plane, which is the best argument that to make a plane fly, somehow magic is involved. I do hope there will be a way to make the windows less teinted though, because it's a bit much for me :) Anyway off for another spin I go!
I just saw this in the store last night and was thinking "I wonder if AvAngel will review it". I'm not one for buying planes, but I might have to grab this just for the role play of shuttling people back and forth like Chris Farley
The clicking noise is due to a conflict with your Honeycomb. I have a preset where none of the switches and knobs on the base of the yoke are active that cured it.
Not all aircraft will have the same avionics, these are also a lot older and often lack the space for stuff like that. Nice to have ,but not essential.
I own the Blackbox Islander and the Miltech Osprey-both have enough windscreen tint that they’re not very fun to fly at night. This one seems to have even stronger tint. Oh well, maybe modders can fix it.
I never understand why Asobo aircraft don’t have visible internal pilots. I miss captain whiskers 😢 Is it possible to hide the parachutists to have a real cargo version?
@@AvAngel yeah it’s the ish that gets me. This ugly beast could carry tractors 🚜. They wouldn’t fit in the mil version but get rid of the skydivers and we onto a winner. If it wasn’t marketplace only, I’d have a go at removing them from the model 😂
Thanks! That's one ugly duckling alright. The scenery however is breathtaking. If you tell us from exactly which airfield you take-off from i certainly didn't hear it.... I do understand you're flying to Zell am Zee, right ? Can you please tell us your departing airfield ? Thank you very much!
I had one of these dropping parachute jumpers at my local airfield last week. Neither my eyes nor ears have yet recovered from this abomination (but it really is a handy little aircraft)

a magical old shed of an Aircraft , always loved these for their no nonsense usability... a truly practical work horse

“Even a boat that got most of the way across the Atlantic…”
🤣 Too soon! 🤣
Usefulness and utility have a beauty all their on, like a Ford Transit
After one evening this has become my favourite. Flying this brick around English airports in foul weather is the best!
…it just seems right.

I loved your intro... just as much as I love your videos. AvAngel you are a tonic to my flight simulation experience. Thanks for the entertainment 😁😂
Great video and a very quirky flying box!

Seeing the side door entrance and giant flight deck, I’d say you’re right - it looks like a Winnebago.

I think it’s a Fokker
@AvAngel I just searched it. DC9. Another kool plane I'd love to jump is the c16-Caribou. You did any skydives yet?

i personally think it looks nice, i would love to see Super Guppy though.

I cycled most switches which usually solves those. Weirdly If it’s started in sim it doesn’t click
Fun aircraft!
Where they've put that tablet they could have given us the option of a GTN 750 instead. Said the same about the Black Box 330/360.

Where is Captain Whiskers?
Not showing up today apparently
Good British engineering should be done by one weirdo in a flat cap and a garden shed. Sometimes they make a plane that doubles as a new workshop.
I never understand why Asobo aircraft don’t have visible internal pilots. I miss captain whiskers 😢

Aren't you supposed to take it out of the crate first before you fly it? ... lol
Ah that's the problem!
But will it bush??
Just how dose a stuck pig climb?
Like a Short Skyvan ... lol
So that livery is actually real? OH GOOD LORD!!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣
yup!

Ugly ? Its a beautiful plane. Its a very unloved work horse. It does what it says on the tin. . You want ugly look up some blackburn designs. . 😅.
Many Special Ops flights for the US Military and Government agencies in this ugly duckling.
It's beautifully ugly haha
Not pretty?…I’ve dated worse
That is the ugliest livery ever made.
I think it's so ugly it's amazing :D
