Winter Soldier is the only movie I have watched three times and which I will rewatch when given the opportunity. It has perfect pacing, relevance and characterization for an action movie.
@Seth Parris Most movies I don't care about enough for it or their pacing makes me go "I don't need to watch this". Also 3 is just a vaguely "High repeatability" value. Only a few movies have it
@@MentalStillness I thought the Black Panther character was badass in Civil War. It was a great introduction of a new Avenger. But I agree that the movie could've been better.
Ive only watched it 4-5 times but i watch a lot of movies so 4-5 times for a movie is a lot for me. My all time fav movie is Shawshank and I have watched that movie maybe 6-7 times
I’ve watched Winter Soldier 4 times. That’s 3 times more than I have with the other MCU flicks. It’s so serious and grounded like the Dark Knight and Netflix shows. I honestly wish the rest of the MCU was like this.
Winks it’s a different kind of dark, it isn’t the emo/gothic Batman dark (not that there’s anything wrong with that, ppl have their own preferences ofc) but it’s more of a grounded & serious movie that is a lot more mature and thrilling, which I as a 14 yr old prefer a lot more than movies like Ragnarok. It’s perfectly balanced from the edginess, humor, action, and the darkness which is winter soldier’s side of the story. It fits perfectly for the theme they were going for. I don’t think ALL the marvel movies should be that way, cuz they all have their own themes, but they could tone down the amount of modern trends they’ve been shoving in there recently (for example Thor playing fortnite.... **sigh** )
I recently watched through a repeat viewing of every MCU movie (haven’t got to Black Panther and Infinity War yet) and I wholeheartedly agree that Winter Soldier is head and shoulders above the rest. I would add that the movie sets up the absolute perfect conflict for the character of Steve Rogers. It’s basically a spy thriller with superheroes and it has all this deviousness and infiltration of SHIELD, while Rogers’ character is the exact opposite of devious. Rogers’ whole shtick is that he’s honorable almost to a fault and a real always-stand-up-for-what’s-right kind of guy, and then he’s thrust into a situation where he learns that a lot of the people he’s been allied with for years can’t be trusted. Then he’s forced to do a bunch of devious spy stuff himself in order to survive and stand up for what’s right. He has to change his whole outlook on the world and other people, but still maintains the heart of what makes him who he is: his honor. Absolutely the best piece of writing Marvel has put out so far. This conflict is like the Joker to Steve Rogers’ Batman.
This movie also has the best superhero theme song since the Superman and Batman movies of the 80's. Taking A Stand is everything a superhero theme should be.
Firstly, I agree that Winter Soldier is the best MCU film. Hell, it’s one of my favourite films of all time, but I do feel you’ve entirely missed the point regarding your criticism of Civil War. It’s ok not to like it, but your critique shows a serious misunderstanding of he film. You claim that the central premise of Civil War is baffling and makes no sense, but you only talk about the aspect of civilian casualties. Firstly, unintended casualties is NOT the main the reason governments are in uproar. It’s about the Avengers, acting as a rogue independent organisation, under no rule or supervision and can operate with ZERO accountability. General ross explains this, and it’s pretty understanding that foreign nations gets pissed off, yet have no one to respond to. It’s not like the American government is going to claim responsibility. But somebody has to, and thus the Sorcovia Accords comes into play. You also say that the UN is more vulnerable to infiltration by Hydra, since they managed to get into Shield. I personally don’t think so. I mean, They could probably infiltrate and operate as UN delegates, however those delegates work for their current governments, and can’t really make any decisions without their respective governments. Unless hydra manages to infiltrate key positions in multiple government, the likelihood that hydra is controlling the UN is slim. Also, Rhodes mention this to Sam, specifically stating that “this isn’t Shield”, meaning it’s the best choice and safest choice to t,e orders from. Also, you mentioned that Tony Stark selling weapons most of his life contradicts his decision to go suddenly submit all his tech and powers to a collection of world government. DUDE, Did you watch Iron Man? His clearly a changed man. And he’s still changing.he feels immense guilt over Ultron and wants desperately to make up for it. It’s called character development. And also, he has given a suit to Rhodes who is the American military. So it wouldn’t be the first time he’s handed over tech to a government. Your last point is correct. And that’s what is all about. The fact that the UN has a say in what the Avengers do or don’t do. If a particular mission is too risky, the UN could say no. I don’t agree with it, which is why I’m team Cap. Avengers should stay independent. Just to sum up, you focus too much on civilian casualties when criticising Civil War. It’s about accountability/culpability and control vs freedom of choice/independence . And Cap is the perfect representation freedom/independence since he took order from Shield that turned out to be hydra. He got burned working for an organisation and now wants to be independent “the safest ha do are still our own”. And Tony naturally represent the other side because he feels guilty of past mistakes like Ultron or his weapons ending up in the wrong hands, Sorry for the long rant, but this video was driving me mad.
Yeah I agree. He completely missed the point of Civil War. Obviously you're Team Cap just like I am so thats how you see it. Thats literally what the movie is meant to do. Both sides have their reasons and thats why for some people its hard to choose. For me, its easy team cap, but I can see why people would go the other way. People could see Loki coming to Earth as partly Thors doing because Loki wanted revenge on Thor, the people on team Stark didn't experience any of what happened in Winter Soldier, they just were told what happened, except Nat, which is why she's conflicted and ends up switching sides, Rumlow wanted to blow up an entire hospital and himself just so he could kill Cap, and most importantly, Tony Stark created Ultron. While I agree with Cap, Iron Man's motivations still make sense.
It's by far the best in the MCU. I was never a fan of captain America growing up and I wasn't a fan of the first movie either so I was totally shocked by how much I loved this movie. You could take out all the superhero aspects and you would still be left with a great spy thriller.
Heck yeah, Winter Soldier has been my favorite ever since its debut. Plus all the characters in this film have awesome chemistry together and you feel their connections to each other. Not to mention Bucky's the shit. Great Video!
How was Robert Redford's Alexander Pierce NOT Academy Award worthy? He was the best actor in the film, and his performance was amazing! The film is one of my favorite superhero movies.
This is my favourite MCU film. I love film this so much. I like that the writers took inspiration from 70s Political Thrillers which is why they cast Robert Redford in this film.
Ultron was created by Tony. It was not collateral damage it was directly done by the avengers themselves or a couple of them. The motivation is revenge, it's not collateral damage to zemo the guy who plans the events in civil war. Sometimes I think people dont really pay attention.
Chris Kucharski yeah the avengers fucked up once with ultron. Meanwhile the government created abomination, sent a nuke to NY and almost killed millions of people if it wasn't for iron man, they literally were controlled by nazis in winter soildier. So yeah the government has done worst things, the avengers just made one mistake and they had good intentions ultron was never supposed to killed people but the government new clearly what was going to happen when they sent their nuke to NY. Civil war isn't really that good.
@@lunatic4152 the point could be made that tony was trying to sign the accords to continue the avengers, he was worried about the earth being attacked by aliens. he could also sign the accords and then decide to ignore them if he felt that it was necesary. but captain america the boy scout refused to sign due to his personality and stuborness, combined with the events of winter soldier and his knowledge of the modern world. where ironman often does whatever he wants ignoring authority, captain america has always had principles and does not believe in prioritizing some evils over others. so that's the conflict.
jesus mora so what. It’s a terribly written film. I’m talking about civil war. Terrible motivations of dumb feelings and the accords were just an ex machina for a movie about superheroes fighting to exist.
jesus mora dude movies are about subjective opinions that’s the entire point of filmmaking and reviewing. The only thing that’s not subjective are visual effects and maybe cinematography. But apart from that everything is subjective if you’ve actually studied filmmaking you’ll know. Plus my argument is more valid than yours. Your saying that Tony signed the accords out of dumb fear why did the accords even exist. Tony signed the accords because of two reasons. Ultron and that kid that he died in sokovia. Ultron wasn’t the avengers fault it was his. Cap is already too responsible for himself to make mistakes like that even cap told tony that they aren’t perfect and tony should know that more than anybody. Second of all his second argument was “a kid died in sokovia cause we were fighting” in the middle of this movie he goes to Peters house and asks him to fight with him. How stupid does he look “ohh a kid died I feel bad I’ll sign the accords but I’ll also hire a 15 year old kid to fight with me” then like I said before signing the accords wouldn’t help with stopping another alien invasion give me a logical reason as to why that would help tony isn’t even following the accord, Tony’s head and ego is so stuck up his own ass that he has no valid motivation to sign the accords and “keeping the avengers together” is the stupidest motivation ever. Cap was dumb too not because he didn’t have a motivation at least he HAD ONE but he never fought for it he never mentioned anything about winter Soildier he just said “no I don’t agree”. During the entire movie it feels like two couples going through divorce fighting for who gets the house or the kids. All the characters have no motivation, I mean some do but most don’t. Why is Spider-Man in this film he made tony look like an idiot, why is Ant Man in his movie oh yeah didn’t he in his last movie promised his daughter to be a hero and not break any rules but when he sees cap he does for no reason he has no reason to join caps team at all besides “more characters make more money”. Black widow has no reason to change sides she’s just “I promised I would find them not catch them” but what is your motivation what is it is it?? Falcon is just caps friend, war machine is iron mans friend, black panther has a great motivation one of the only characters in this movie that makes sense, scarlet witch doesn’t. So she feels bad for being dangerous then she’s angry cause she can’t go out? I mean if she feels bad for hurting people why is she fighting with cap what is she fighting for? Her freedom? Why doesn’t she just fly away why right with cap? Hawkeye is in this movie mint he most forced way possible he just appears cause “fans get aroused by that shit”. And the movie has tons of problems, it’s not terrible but the script is terrible it’s just fan service without any depth to it just a bunch of heroes fighting each other with stupid motivation that marvel fanboys will accept just cause the movie has Spider-Man in it and kids wouldn’t use their brains to try and understand it.
They really hit the home run with The Winter Soldier. While watching that movie suddenly it dawned on me that it was actually masterpiece in the genre. And ironically Captain America was never a comic book character that I cared for. The story telling is great, the action scenes are top notch, all the actors brought their A game to the screen, etc. Simply phenomenal, and most likely impossible to surpass.
I completely agree with you LFM, Winter Soldier told a very deep, momentous storytelling that grappled you into the confliction of Captain America, his reasoning to being apart of S.H.I.E.L.D., him being a hero, and now someone that just watched a Ghost come back to life in Bucky: a.k.a. The Winter Soldier. To me, Civil war lost the whole thing for me when they didn't put in the "secret" of Tony Stark, Picture this: At the end of the movie, You have Tony sitting in an office and Senator Ross comes in and drops some papers on his desk and lays down a pen, "there you go Stark, everything is in order...For your continued support, you have the Support of the U.N Nations for Stark International..!" Tony looks at him, then at the paper holding the pen and its the same pen that he gave to Steve previously in the movie which shows a bit of unnerving on Tony's part. Ross' face turns to him, "Oh the pen, I thought it was a good present to Rogers and this is something that can't go to waste so why not right, Now you said you will sign it...so do it!" Tony signs the paper begrudgingly tossing this pen that was supposed to be a peacemaking event into the Brutus' knife into the back of Ceasar. Ross takes the paper smiling to himself, "Thank you Stark, Your Country thanks you!" As Ross leaves Tony turns to a profile side and states, "If I knew, how this would end... I wouldn't have done it!" This happened in the comics, Tony caused the whole Superhero Registration Act because his company was going under after the events of Avengers Disassembled to rebuild everything and show reparations, this should also show 2 things in Tony: 1. He did all of this, to get his company back to be back into the limelight and he believed that he could talk Steve into it, but deep down he also knew that Steve wouldn't have done it. The confliction in Steve Rogers is offputting but he stayed his ground. 2. This is a secret that comes out later in the movie that shows more drama that everyone is pissed, irritated that Tony did this. Did Tony cause all of this misery just to regain MONEY? Have power? Placing more friction into the group instead of coming together. We need to show to the audience that Tony Stark is the major cause of a lot of misery for the group and he also is not the perfect leader. He makes mistakes but tries his best to answer for them in the bigger whole but doesn't look at the bigger, wider picture. IF they added this to the end of Civil War, then Infinity War would have had bigger stakes because as the audience we know why Tony did this, We know why but no one else and when it does come out. It might completely break the team or it might help them solve the bigger problem and come back together.
@@corgigod5482 So he was not all concerned about a guy he does not know for sure is Not Hydra, who could be Hydra? Who maybe spying on him while pretending to jog and pretending to be friendly? 😮 I thought the Message was, "Trust no one." If he was going to take a risk, wouldn't it be better to take a risk on Iron Man or Hulk? Guys that almost died with Him(Cap) while fighting an Invasion?
As a teen width adhd, when this movie came out one of the main things I noticed was that I never got distracted. It had my attention the whole time. Infinity war and endgame did that too but that was out of curiosity for what happenes. Winter soldier didn’t have a plot build up so it was different
I watched Winter Soldier that year. Then I watched it again. And then again. I never see a movie more than once in theaters. Then I saw Guardians. Blew my mind. I knew that was the peak for the MCU. They were never going to make anything that good again. CA: TWS is by far the most flawlessly conceived and execute MCU film to date. I never get tired of watching. Great action, great story, real consequences, real characters and real development! You get to see it all unfold in a way that makes sense and is satisfying to watch and it cemented Captain America as my favorite MCU character. Civil War by comparison is trash and all the points you made were what I've been saying since the movie was released. The whole thing with the UN trying to bring the Avengers under than control sounded very much like the scene in Iron Man 2 where Senator Stern (Garry Shandling) wanted Stark to give the US government the suit. Find out in TWS that Stern is HYDRA and even after being defeated in TWS, we learn in Ant-Man that HYDRA is still operational (though crippled) and trying to by the the Yellow Jacket suit. Add to that General Thaddeus Ross who is responsible for Abomination tearing up Harlem, NY in The Incredible Hulk is now Secretary of State Ross, it seems like he could be HYDRA too! He shouldn't have been promoted like that and he's also the last person that should have been lecturing the Avengers when he made such a mess. Civil War is freaking dumb lol. Anyways, 100% agree with everything you said.
The part that annoys me about CW is that the fix would have been very easy. All they would have to do is shift the focus from the damage the Superheroes cause to the fact that Iron Man created Ultron which then proceeded to almost destroy the world. Then hammer down the fact that if The Avengers aren't kept in check, they might create more things like Ultron that pose a serious problem if in the wrong hands. That would have made what first caused the Avengers to fight feel far more natural
FACTS!!! This movie will Always be my favourite Purely for its plot and similarities to the world we live in... And I just love Cap's morality and looking out for the little guy... Oh, and his "Attention all Shield Agents... This is Steve Rogers" speech.
I wholeheartedly agree! I've stated this many times to friends of mine who questioned why I chose #TeamCap and you perfectly summed up why Steve's position on the Sokovia Accords was the correct stance to take 👍🏼 👏🏽 👌🏼
Great video and comments! Totally agree on 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier'. The best Marvel movie and by far. The plot, storytelling, emotional involvement and action: Fantastic. I enjoyed 'Civil War' but if I had to choose one word to describe this movie, it'll be: Mess! Not a complete mess, but often a mess. I think too many heroes in one movie isn't a good idea. We simply had too much of them in the Civil War and the same goes with 'Avengers: Infinity War'. You have an impression of emptiness after having watched the movie, lots and lots of action and very little of anything else.
I love Winter Soldier. One thing that makes the collateral damage discussion in Civil War work for me is that I never thought it was a genuine argument on UN's part. I took it as the usual excuse that governments in the real world make when they are trying to seize some power or take away some civil liberty. It's just PR to distract the masses who might otherwise be asking questions like why a group of unelected bureaucrats should be trusted to control that kind of power.
yup you are right.. well i've so far watched this awesome movie for the 7th time, and still i feel tensed and cheering as Cap is on process of mounting the last chip... and everytime i watch this movie, it feels more awesome....
Still true in 2019, almost 2020. This is the only Marvel movie I have watched and will continue to watch repeatedly. Great story, awesome action and a beautiful bromance that packed a bigger emotional punch than I ever thought possible for a superhero movie.
Before Endgame, this was my favorite MCU film. Also my favorite Cap film lol. But a big reason that I think you missed is that The Winter Soldier has a different tone than other MCU films, and that it has the tone of being a spy movie. Think about it. Replace cap with james bond, and replace shield with MI6, and replace black widow with some hot chick that bond met in the beginning of the film. It kind of is like the bond film Spectre a little bit. But yeah that's why I enjoyed it so much, it had a spy thriller kind of tone to it that other MCU films didn't have.
I am coming to this video on the 10th anniversary of the film, and this is a great video. Thank you for making it. Winter solider hands down is still my number one favorite MCU movie. Nothing they have done have lived up to it. Steve rogers is my kind of hero, and the Russo did a great job making him a bad ass, but not losing his Aspirational traits If I may I would like to also give credit to Sebastian Stan as the Winter solider. Much credit should be given to his performance as well. He did have much to say in this one as in First Avenger, but that does take away from his performance. " my heart still beats in the scene where he says " But I knew him" showing part of the old Bucky was coming back until they wiped his mind. The scene that does it for me, is Steve refusing to kill Bucky, out of love for him. We get the " I'm with you till the end of the line, falling into the river risking death , than to hurt his friend. We forget the great chemistry between Chris and Sebastian, in telling this story of deep friendship and Loyalty. Their story is the heart of the 3 cap movies. I also want to say I agree your part about Civil War I am glad I am not alone about that film, I feel the same way you do about g about Civil war I thought I was alone, I still feel Winter solider is far superior. Thank for making the video , I just see a lot of Captain America videos these days,
You are absolutely right! Winter Soldier is easily the MCU's best films. It got the regular movie going public to elevate their view of MCU movies, and created real buzz and excitement about subsequent movies. Sadly, Marvel has failed to live up to those expectations, and I believe that the movie going public is slowly catching on. Going to see the latest Marvel movie feels more episodic rather than a groundbreaking cinematic event. And, with Infinity War coming to a climax, most of the core Marvel characters will not be carried into phase 4, the MCU is trying to push the new (SJW approved) heroes of Captain Marvel, a wimpy Spider-Man, and Black Panther (with his supporting cast of the smartest people ever, who happened to do nothing to ever show or validate that claim throughout history, but it's true because it's easier to have bad writing than to take the time to create and build up characters that we care about and have actual validity in their abilities). Hopefully DC will be able to get their act together, otherwise we'll be left with a short list of great Superhero movies like Winter Soldier and The Dark Knight.
Yes that’s exactly what Tony Stark would do. The entire reason he stopped being an arms dealer is he saw the damage it caused through that guy imprisoned with him. He would obviously be in favor of being more accountable.
to the UN though? The UN has been soooo corrupted over the years. Stark is too intelligent to trust such a shady organization with such importance. Let's be honest, in real life, the UN is a joke.
I think the purpose of Civil War was just to split up the Avengers, especially Tony and Cap. So, divided they were conquered, in Infinity War, and together they will be victorious again in Endgame. It’s all about the characters arc.
This is my favorite MCU film because the central premise is by far the most believable to me. I can suspend my disbelief while watching movies, obviously, but I don't IRL take the threat of, say, purple-skinned aliens killing off half of the universe with just a snap of his fingers or Norse mythological beings sending an intergalactic threat to obliterate a city seriously. But government institutions being thoroughly corrupted from within, killing off untold numbers of their own populations and controlling the rest through fear? Uh, that sounds EXACTLY what can very well happen IRL. This creates a real dread in the movie in that Steve Rogers really doesn't know who he can trust, same as us the audience.
Yup. This is STILL my number marvel movie, Infinity War a close second. This movie CERTIFIED Cap as a badass. His speech at Shield, alone, will be the Best bit of writing and why I would've said "Captains orders" too. And I Totally agree with you about Guardians of the Galaxy... That's in my top 5. What a breath of fresh air that movie was. Sorry man, I'm typing as I'm listening lol. Another thing people don't appreciate: How Awesome Alexander Pierce was as a villain. He doesn't get the mention cos he's not superpowered and he was slightly overshadowed by Bucky in the end.
Black Panther was a better movie from Start to Finish.... the first half of Winter Soldier blows the first half of Black Panther out of the water BUT the second half of Black Panther is much better then the second half of Winter Soldier.
Actually the UN would act exactly like that. It has saudis talking about human rights and has been taking the sides of known terrorist organizations for decades.
i love the MCU and i generally enjoy all of their films, but to this day i still say that this film is easily the best written and best paced of all the MCU films. i have watched it many time and watch it many times more, and im certain that Cap became not only my favourite character from this but also proved just how cool the character can actually be. infinity war was pretty epic no doubt but this film is still easily my favourite and i think still in the top 3 best films of the series.
I *ALSO* gained a greater appreciation for Cap from this movie. Both this movie and the comic it was based on. I always thought he was that symbol and kind of a bland character. But Steve is a deeply complex character and Chris Evans manages to be _perfect_ for him.
Somewhere around the 8th rewatch I lost count, but I'm pretty sure I'm well over 20 at this point, and to be honest there will be many more. Definitely my favourite movie, not just in the mcu
I don’t think you actually understood Civil War... like, you miss literally everything the movie is about outside of Ross’s description of the Sokovia Accord. I’m not saying Civil War is better than Winter Soldier, but your description is literally the opposite of the “moral” Civil War posed. In fact, you’ve also missed everything actually good about Winter Soldier. Mostly you’ve been trapped at only looking at the surface level narrative of both movies and hence you fail to delve at the actually good bits of both movies.
(Yeah i know this video is old but i still wanted to comment dammit) I agree with every point you made except for the one where you explain how the plotpoint of civil war makes no sense. It essentially comes down to Tony and Steve, if you had only seen the first avengers movie you'd think that upon this issue, Tony would be the one discarding it completely (seeing as he has been weary of big organizations in the past, like he was with nick fury in the first movie) and Steve would agree with him. But instead, Iron man 3 and Age of Ultron set up Tony's "change of heart", its his guilt and fear that push him to comply with the government and sign the accords. On the other hand, Steve, who maybe years prior would have eventually agreed to sign the accords for the "greater good", is now forced to not trust big organizations after discovering Hydra's infiltration into Shield during the events of tws. Tony's reasoning is merely brought forward by his reoccurring fear that his actions will lead to the death of thousands of people and also, his friends. That's why when he realizes what Zemo has done, he puts down the weapons and tries to cooperate with steve to stop this bigger villain he failed to see at first. The turning point then is that Steve kept his parents' death a secret, making them fight once more before Cap ultimately wins and leaves us with a bitter taste in our mouth.
I've avoided watching the MCU movies until last week to finally just be "in the know." I just finished Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and admittedly, ive only really enjoyed iron man 1(as a guilty pleasure) and the winter soldier. I generally like superhero movies, but I hate the Hollywood/safe style the MCU has. The humor every 10 seconds, the overabundance of CGI, lackluster fight scenes, generic shot composition, etc. This film was quite different. The pacing was absolutely perfect, the choreography of the fight scenes and the set pieces are some of the best I've ever seen in an action film, and they knew when to use humor and didnt go overboard with it. Music wasnt anything special, but it was the first MCU OST to catch my attention for it being pretty good. Not to mention the plot was easily the best so far and that they actually made Black Widow and Nick Fury interesting characters. (Something they should have done BEFORE the first avengers). Im somewhat of a movie snob that usually hates action blockbusters, but even I have to admit this was a fucking well made movie. It really took me by surprise.
I think so. As much as I love Endgame, the pacing in Winter Soldier is much more fluid and not all over the place as seen in Endgame. The action also uses a lot less CGI making the fights more realistic and entertaining to watch.
It MORE than holds up. After watching Endgame today I am more convinced than ever that Winter Soldier definitely one hell of a Marvel film. Endgame is overhyped and quite disappointing.
fuck yes lmao, don't get me wrong when I was watching Endgame I even instigated the cheering and shouting and clapping in the theatre because it's hyped and entertaining. But still doesn't change the fact that CA: TWS is the better one, and my all time favorite mcu up to date
this film is amazing, and I love civil war but I have a slight rewrite that I think would fix the biggest problem with this films sequel without taking out or changing up any of the big set pieces except for the end. Basically I would reduce Zemos role through most of the movie and expand his role at the end. Instead I would have him working through a proxy while pulling strings from behind the scenes. Keeping his motives completely secret until the very end. Him framing Bucky would play out the same way, the real change would come during the interrogation scene. Zemo shouldn't have gone there himself, instead he should have had his proxy, dr faustus, go in his stead. If he had he wouldn't have need the red book to reactivate Bucky (Faustus being a master of hypnosis) and then he and Bucky could have escaped with the help of Zemo. Also let's all accept that most of the plot just conveniently fell into place for no real reason, a benefit of having Faustus in the movie is being able to have other characters do things they wouldn't normally do, like have Sharon Carter leak information to both sides to get them in the right place at the right time. The last and arguably biggest change is the ending, Zemos plan to have Iron Man and Cap fight was so contrived there was barely an end game at all. Not to say I didn't love the fight and the reveal at the end was emotional and beautifully acted, but one simple question, how did Zemo know about how the Stark's were killed and who did? I don't think they ever explained that. I think having him going after the super soldier serum would be a much better motive, something to help even the odd and actually allow for a fight between Zemo and Cap, the video of the Stark's murder should have been secondary if not totally unknown about. Something he finds while going through the records in the facility. After that he kills the winter soldiers in cryo sleep just like he did in the film but instead of him being separated from them as soon as they arrive Cap gets separated from Tony and Bucky and then the video plays. Now Bucky has to face Iron Man alone and Steve is trying to make a mad dash to stop 2 of his closest friends from killing each other while also trying to fight off the true Baron Zemo. Tell me this wouldn't have made the best MCU film 100% better.
This exact list, but with vol. 2 instead of vol. 1. Gotg2 explored the development of its characters better than any mcu movie IMO. Which is extremely hard to do when it's (mostly) a comedy. And thor ragnarok just doesnt give a shit. Sometimes it borders on parody but I think that's what makes it so great and number 3 in the mcu.
captain america winter soldier, the dark knight, and daredevil are the best pieces of superhero media (with the possible exception of spider-verse and spider-man ps4)
S.H.I.E.L.D was never breached by Hydra. The Strategic Defense Initiative was infiltrated, then became S.H.I.E.L.D. with Hydra already a part of it. It had Hydra in it, from the start. Also Peggy Carter, and Howard Stark (Hail Hydra) but it was never breached from the outside, until Loki hacked into the Tesseract. (That we know of.)
I agree with you on your criticisms of AV:CW , Tony's reaction to the Sokovia Accords is very out of character. I think this stems from the writers' want to stray a bit away from the source material, being the comics. I can understand wanting to do that, as an artist myself I pride myself on being original and creative and I don't doubt the writers feel the same, but leaving in the UN made the plot very inconsistent and the large shift in the focus of the characters from the Accords to Bucky confuses the audience. The movie would've been all around stronger if they just got rid of the Accords, and skipped the inconsistency. But I guess they needed a way to bring the Avengers together , other than the fact that they are all literally coworkers.
Everyone's opinion on things like this is going to be subjective but I did love the Winter Soldier. I also loved the first Avengers movie and Guardians of the Galaxy. Ofcourse being a huge Spider-Man fan also, I loved Spidey homecoming.
Please don't mind my question, but your accent is amazing and I need to ask where are you from? ( I'm not a native English speaker... but I really enjoyed your way of speaking, pacing pronounciation so I had to ask!) Have a great day!
the thing about civil war is simply this, what would government oversight of the avengers intail? well more than likely it would just mean keeping them up to date on what is happening and who is doing what as long as endanger lives... like maybe if they had told the in about the attack on sucovia, they might have had more help with the evacuations...
Took this with a grain of salt when this guy said Winter Soldier is the equivalent of DC's The Dark Knight. How dare you compare a masterpiece to an overrated, boring and inconsistent movie. * Masterpiece : Winter Soldier ** Overrated, boring and inconsistent : The Dark Knight
@@upon136 My drugs must not be as strong as yours, which clearly makes you delusional. All TDK has going for itself is one reason and one reason only : Heath Ledger. There's also Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine, but let's not kid ourselves, they're amazing actors in every role they portray. The movie is horribly paced, filled with inconsistencies, there's very limited character development, the story is clichéd and lastly, the whole thing is style over substance. Yet, DC fanboys can't even fathom that the movie is horrible. Even Batman Begins is better in every single way, but somehow it's the lowest rated out of the 3. So, tell me again how it's not overrated? Oh, that's right, you can't because you make love to it every night. It's getting pathetic really hearing how TDK is a masterpiece every single time you prove batmanites wrong.
6:05 Ok I'm gonna stop u there. It is the point of his arc. when he selled that guns and decided to not do it he never wanted it to happen again It is logic that he is on that side because he doesn't want his mistakes to happen again
I agree with much of your points, but the reason Tony wants to sign the accords is because he sees what happens when they are left unchecked. In the very first scene of Tony we see a mother telling Tony about how her son died in Sokovia during the events of Age of Ultron. He was in Sokovia helping the poor. In the very first Iron Man movie Tony sees that his weapons are being sold to terrorists and he shuts down the program. He changes his ways. In Civil War Tony and Steve both have valid points. Tony knows what collateral damage does to innocent people. Steve knows what happens when powerful people get corrupt. Also the final battle of Civil War is hands down the best battle scene in all of Marvel's movies up to that point. I do however think that Winter Soldier is better than Civil War.
Best movie of MCU in order 1. Not every 2. mcu movie 3. should be 4. compared 5. to one 6. another 7. because we 8. have different 9. preferences 10. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Winter Soldier is the only movie I have watched three times and which I will rewatch when given the opportunity. It has perfect pacing, relevance and characterization for an action movie.

Hands down! It is still number 1!! On my list!
Still my favorite. They came up short with Black Panther.
@@MentalStillness I thought the Black Panther character was badass in Civil War. It was a great introduction of a new Avenger. But I agree that the movie could've been better.

The Winter Solider story line went beyond a typical superhero movie, and I have been a comic book geek since I was 8 years old!
Winter Soldier was such a good movie! Made Captain America my favourite avenger
💯💯💯💯
I’ve seen winter soldier at least 20 times and I could watch it anytime and still enjoy it
Bruh 👊
Same dudee
True.
Ive only watched it 4-5 times but i watch a lot of movies so 4-5 times for a movie is a lot for me. My all time fav movie is Shawshank and I have watched that movie maybe 6-7 times
Im glad you still have time to enjoy this movie while your on the raggedy egde of the verse.............like a leaf on the wind.
I’ve watched Winter Soldier 4 times. That’s 3 times more than I have with the other MCU flicks. It’s so serious and grounded like the Dark Knight and Netflix shows. I honestly wish the rest of the MCU was like this.
3bood AE So dark...are you sure you don’t prefer the DC Universe?
**sigh** )
@@Idk-ud1pf I do wish Ragnarok was more serious and grounded
@@Idk-ud1pf I think they were referring to Deadpool 2
Not all mcu characters work with that approach as long as they are not made to look ridiculous
I have to agree that it's their best movie.
This movie also has the best superhero theme song since the Superman and Batman movies of the 80's. Taking A Stand is everything a superhero theme should be.
Well The Dark Knight trilogy has some really great soundtracks, too
Firstly, I agree that Winter Soldier is the best MCU film.
And Tony naturally represent the other side because he feels guilty of past mistakes like Ultron or his weapons ending up in the wrong hands,
Sorry for the long rant, but this video was driving me mad.
@Dare Devil replace civil war with infinity war
Tony Stark has always been driven by guilt. His turn in CW makes sense.
Anybody got a TL;DR?
Infinity war is way better
It's by far the best in the MCU. I was never a fan of captain America growing up and I wasn't a fan of the first movie either so I was totally shocked by how much I loved this movie. You could take out all the superhero aspects and you would still be left with a great spy thriller.
Same here, I could've posted that!😁
The soundtrack was also amazing.
Winter's Soldier is hands down my favorite movie as well. That car chase scene with Nick Fury was one of the best I have ever seen of any movie.
Heck yeah, Winter Soldier has been my favorite ever since its debut. Plus all the characters in this film have awesome chemistry together and you feel their connections to each other. Not to mention Bucky's the shit. Great Video!
Love your point of view. Just have two Marvel films. The Avengers and Cpt America Winter Soldier.
My Top 5:
1. Winter Soldier
2. Thor Ragnarok
3. Infinity War
4. Civil War
5. Iron Man
I don’t see the Ragnarok hype, enjoyed watching it but it isn’t nearly as good as the other ones you mentioned
How was Robert Redford's Alexander Pierce NOT Academy Award worthy? He was the best actor in the film, and his performance was amazing! The film is one of my favorite superhero movies.
How is Alexander Pierce Never considered a 'Good Marvel Villain', out of Loki and Kilmonger??!
This is my favourite MCU film. I love film this so much. I like that the writers took inspiration from 70s Political Thrillers which is why they cast Robert Redford in this film.
I lost count on how many times I seen this masterpiece
Same.
@@lunatic4152 that is not an argument, just your subjective opinion.
jesus mora dude movies are about subjective opinions that’s the entire point of filmmaking and reviewing.
Never looked at civil war that way rather refreshing
To me, Civil war lost the whole thing for me when they didn't put in the "secret" of Tony Stark,
Picture this: At the end of the movie, You have Tony sitting in an office and Senator Ross comes in and drops some papers on his desk and lays down a pen, "there you go Stark, everything is in order...For your continued support, you have the Support of the U.N Nations for Stark International..!"
Tony looks at him, then at the paper holding the pen and its the same pen that he gave to Steve previously in the movie which shows a bit of unnerving on Tony's part. Ross takes the paper smiling to himself, "Thank you Stark, Your Country thanks you!"
As Ross leaves Tony turns to a profile side and states, "If I knew, how this would end... I wouldn't have done it!"
This happened in the comics, Tony caused the whole Superhero Registration Act because his company was going under after the events of Avengers Disassembled to rebuild everything and show reparations, this should also show 2 things in Tony:
Nick Fury: "Don't trust anyone."
Captain America: Went to a guy he met once while he was jogging in the morning.
That was the point he was just random dude without any involvement in shield
@@corgigod5482 So he was not all concerned about a guy he does not know for sure is Not Hydra, who could be Hydra? Who maybe spying on him while pretending to jog and pretending to be friendly? 😮 I thought the Message was, "Trust no one." @@theemperor912 thank you the plot was fucking garbage infinity war was better
My n1 favorite of the MCU hands dowm, the 1v1 of captain and winter soldier under the bridge was one of the action sequences maybe ever in any movie.
Definitely my favourite Mcu Movie 👑
Glad to see someone giving CA:WS the props it deserves. Far and away my favorite Marvel movie.
Captain America The Winter Soldier. Best marvel movie. So glad I didnt watch any trailers for it either. Film was perfect
I love The \Winter Soldier. The action sequences are so well done they take my breath away no matter how many times I've seen the movie.
I watch this movie Everytime it comes on.
FACTS!!! This movie will Always be my favourite Purely for its plot and similarities to the world we live in... And I just love Cap's morality and looking out for the little guy...
Oh, and his "Attention all Shield Agents... This is Steve Rogers" speech.
I wholeheartedly agree! I've stated this many times to friends of mine who questioned why I chose #TeamCap and you perfectly summed up why Steve's position on the Sokovia Accords was the correct stance to take 👍🏼 👏🏽 👌🏼
I'm glad people agree with me on this
Great video and comments!
Always enjoy your commentary/opinions. Thanks!
yup you are right.. well i've so far watched this awesome movie for the 7th time, and still i feel tensed and cheering as Cap is on process of mounting the last chip... and everytime i watch this movie, it feels more awesome....
I know it's not MCU, but Marvel's Dark Knight to me is Logan. They're both just so real.
That shows that they put a lot of effort into writing a good story. So good that the main character being a superhero is icing on the cake.
Thank for making the video , I just see a lot of Captain America videos these days,
After all of the Marvel movies.. this is still my number 1. Writing, characters, music, even the god damn outro .... Perfection 😍
Still number 1 on my list I stopped counting how many times I've seen it. Its only downside has to be Peggy's CGI lol
I am in agreement Left Foot Media👍🏾👍🏾
I think the purpose of Civil War was just to split up the Avengers, especially Tony and Cap. So, divided they were conquered, in Infinity War, and together they will be victorious again in Endgame. It’s all about the characters arc.
Totally agree! WS has always been my favourite MCU movie 😊
I can't argue with this.
Winter soldier is the best marvel movie ever #1 at Marvels best 🙌🏽🔥❤️
Indeed my friend you speak the Truth
I’ve seen Winter Soldier five or six times and I love it even more with every rewatch. Someone finally said it 👏👏
I don't understand the ''STAKES'' part, can someone explain please??
Actually the UN would act exactly like that. It has saudis talking about human rights and has been taking the sides of known terrorist organizations for decades.
Yep, true.
This feels like more like criticism of CA:CW than a praise of CA:WS
i love the MCU and i generally enjoy all of their films, but to this day i still say that this film is easily the best written and best paced of all the MCU films. i have watched it many time and watch it many times more, and im certain that Cap became not only my favourite character from this but also proved just how cool the character can actually be. infinity war was pretty epic no doubt but this film is still easily my favourite and i think still in the top 3 best films of the series.
Agree with you. Civil War was a good movie and the conflict was also well done.
You know I like alot of the mcu movies and love to talk to a lot of people. But this movie brings many MCU fans together.
(Yeah i know this video is old but i still wanted to comment dammit)
I agree with every point you made except for the one where you explain how the plotpoint of civil war makes no sense.
You’re not alone - 20+ movies less than a handful are as good as they say
Infinity war is even better
Fuckin' aye right it is- glad to see I'm not alone in this assessment.
Great job. I’d put this as my second favourite marvel movie after civil war.
Does anyone else notice the grey colour pallet in this movie? Underrated part of the film.
it's the only Marvel movie I've rewatched probably over 20 times now
what is the backround music?
For those who have seen Endgame, does The Winter Soldier still hold up as the best MCU movie?
Endgame is the best entertaining movie, but winter soldier is the best film in general
The Russo brothers made both of those movies with different purposes
fuck yes lmao, don't get me wrong when I was watching Endgame I even instigated the cheering and shouting and clapping in the theatre because it's hyped and entertaining.
I agree. It is the best.
I've been saying since the movie came out that it is the best nothing in the MCU can match up to it.
I'd take it one step further: best comic book movie in general.
🤣🤣
LOL NO
1) Winter Soldier
2) Guardians Vol 1
3) Thor Ragnarok
This exact list, but with vol. 2 instead of vol. 1. Gotg2 explored the development of its characters better than any mcu movie IMO. Which is extremely hard to do when it's (mostly) a comedy. And thor ragnarok just doesnt give a shit. Sometimes it borders on parody but I think that's what makes it so great and number 3 in the mcu.
captain america winter soldier, the dark knight, and daredevil are the best pieces of superhero media (with the possible exception of spider-verse and spider-man ps4)
What about Logan
S.H.I.E.L.D was never breached by Hydra. The Strategic Defense Initiative was infiltrated, then became S.H.I.E.L.D. with Hydra already a part of it. It had Hydra in it, from the start. Also Peggy Carter, and Howard Stark (Hail Hydra) but it was never breached from the outside, until Loki hacked into the Tesseract. (That we know of.)
I'm not saying Howard Stark was Hydra, but he was down in the secret basement looking for Dr. Zola. Is all I'm saying.
100% correct
Late to the party but I agree 💯
I totally agree
Everyone's opinion on things like this is going to be subjective but I did love the Winter Soldier. I also loved the first Avengers movie and Guardians of the Galaxy. Ofcourse being a huge Spider-Man fan also, I loved Spidey homecoming.
completely agree, I have always said it was best of the marvel movies
Please don't mind my question, but your accent is amazing and I need to ask where are you from?
( I'm not a native English speaker... but I really enjoyed your way of speaking, pacing pronounciation so I had to ask!)
Have a great day!
Captain America winter soldier is my second favorite flim.
Behind?
@@kalux4305 behind Avengers Endgame
the thing about civil war is simply this, what would government oversight of the avengers intail? well more than likely it would just mean keeping them up to date on what is happening and who is doing what as long as endanger lives... like maybe if they had told the in about the attack on sucovia, they might have had more help with the evacuations...
I love the Bromance btween Cap and Bucky.
Winter Soldier is the best MCU movie. But marvels best film is Logan
Your review makes me want to watch it again :)
Took this with a grain of salt when this guy said Winter Soldier is the equivalent of DC's The Dark Knight. How dare you compare a masterpiece to an overrated, boring and inconsistent movie.
* Masterpiece : Winter Soldier
** Overrated, boring and inconsistent : The Dark Knight
Your on drugs if you think dark knight is overrated
It's getting pathetic really hearing how TDK is a masterpiece every single time you prove batmanites wrong.
intro song?
6:05 Ok I'm gonna stop u there. It is the point of his arc. when he selled that guns and decided to not do it he never wanted it to happen again It is logic that he is on that side because he doesn't want his mistakes to happen again
Best Cap movie no doubt!
It’s the best thing in the MCU
What if episode 4 is better
I do however think that Winter Soldier is better than Civil War.
as of 2021, this is still the best marvel movie to date
