  • If you remember X-Bladez: Inline Skater, then you remember that it's one of the worst PS1 games, and also one of the worst Inline Skating games of all time, due to the fact that it was very short, and had lackluster content and bad gameplay.
This time, it's going to be a game, that's even worse than X-Bladez: Inline Skater, but unlike that game, this game was only released in PAL, and as is already the case with most PAL only games on the PS1, it's absolutely terrible.
This game is called, X'treme Roller, brought to you by the company that already made the famous PAL-only abominations such as Iznogoud, Evidence: The Last Report, The Mission, Invasion, Warm-Up GP 2001 and Monster Racer, Microids.
Released on August 24th 2001, this horrible Inline Skating game, that makes X-Bladez Inline Skater look like a SQUARESOFT masterpiece, is plagued with horrible controls, bad graphics, dull and forgettable music, and very very repetitive, mundane and EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING gameplay!, as all you do in this game is this: Finish the Time Trial before time runs out, then race against an opponent by either get the high score and then finish first, or by simply try to gain more time by smashing through boxes to collect clocks inside them, and then race and try to finish 1st, and that's it, next level, until you come to a park level, where you must gain enough turbo wheels to open a new part of the level, and do the same thing until you come to the exit, and the same task is repeated for the next 2 rounds, but with a lesser time limit than before. And that's pretty much all there's to it.
Not to mention, this game was developed by the most famous company, that was known for the horrible Charlie's Angels game, which is Neko Entertainment, and this is by far their first and only PS1 game that they've ever developed before they developed Charlie's Angels.
The first level takes place on a green, blue and gray infested city street, and is divided into three rounds, much like for the 6 other levels in this game, except that they become even more harder and frustrating.
The characters in the game do deserve a special mention: Most of the characters that you play in this game (including the two characters that you play in Extreme Cup) are all very generic looking and they look like they belong in other games, Animes, TV shows or movies. For instance, Mae Wing, the girl that I'm playing as for the whole walkthrough, and that she is only playable in Extreme Cup, while she is locked in the game's other modes and has to be unlocked by playing through Extreme Cup, looks like a Gum (Jet Set/Grind Radio) and Clover (Totally Spies) reject.
NOTE: The Training hall will be skipped out entirely, due to the fact that the level itself is so dark, that it makes it hard to navigate, especially when you have to find and collect the arrows before time runs out in some of the rounds. The same thing also happens to some of the game's other levels aswell.
SPECIAL NOTE: While most of Microids' PS1 games are PAL-Only (With the exceptions of Dracula Resurrection, which got a US release by Dreamcatcher, Extreme Snowbreak, which got a Japan release by Atlus, but under the name Snow Break, and Evidence: The Last Report, which also got a Japan release by Shouei.), this game however had a US-release planned by Titus (Yes, Titus! of Superman 64 Fame! As this game was produced by the Canadian subsidiary of Microids based in Quebec, and not by the original Microids company that is based in France), but for some unknown reason, Titus cancelled the game's US release, even though it did receive an ESRB rating of an E (Everyone) (And the game's entry can still be seen on the ESRB website), right before the game's US Version got ever printed, which it did not, for unknown reasons. Nowadays, the leaked US coverart floats around the internet, serving it as some interesting trivia regarding the game's planned US release which never was. (And thankfully, it shouldn't be, because this game sucks ass!). I think this is probably because it did not get an approval by SCEA (still why?), but I'm not 100% sure about that.
OTHER SPECIAL NOTE: This game is also said to be on the N64 aswell, according to a site dedicated to this game (www.angelfire.com/pa3/pittskat..., but as of this video, no one has ever seen the N64 version of this game in real life. I assume that when it was being developed for the N64, it was likely cancelled for unknown reasons, but this has not been confirmed so far, as the fate of the game's supposedly existing N64 version is very unknown at this point.

ahhhhh yes, good times... until my dad came to me to tell me that my grandpa had an accident and he was very badly injured... that was the last time I played this game, around 18 years ago; today I was talking with some friends about this game and no one remembered it, just came for the soundtrack, now that I listen to it, it gives me nostalgia but isnt that cool lol, back then I felt it so amazing a futuristic. Not sure if download it and play it in an emulator but it was a good time to see this gameplay.

2:00 The "description" of Mae Wing says that she is "very fast and agile", while Big Buzz's "description" says that he is "fast and agile", just without the word "very". Big Buzz's specifications are full of everything, while Mae Wing's specs are indicating that she is not that "fast and agile". Consistancy, people!

Microids have always been shit during the PS1 days, and inconsistencies like that are surely not uncommon.
