Oh my, thank you so very very much. I have never in my whole life done anything like this (and I'm 72).. You for true made my day. That was soooo fun. I have a great imagination and when Trish said it was like going up on the roller coaster I knew what it felt like. I'm a camper from way back and I could just feel and smell that cold clean night air and the great smells of the outdoors. It was super guys. I'm looking forward to next week.

I was born and raised in Prescott, but rarely get to come back and visit. Watching you drive through that town is so surreal to me, and was an absolute surprise when I clicked on your video. I miss hiking the Dells, Thumb Butte, and Granite Mountain. Fishing with my grandfather on Lynx, Watson, Willow Creek Res, and Goldwater were some of my fondest memories. I might have to venture back to go off roading sometime.

    First rule of off roading.
In any vehicle, never go alone! Always go with someone and let others know what and where you are going. Safety first!
    Have fun and enjoy Jeeping.
Safe travels, God bless you and your family.

Well said....I did that with my Honda atv many years ago, and was just relying on my past experience, which by the way helped out big time, as I got stuck in the snow! Knowing how to operate my winch, and having additional cable, allowed me to lasso a large rock, which got me out of the ruts I sunk down in. I've not ridden by myself since!

Personally, I use my Jeep to access very remote areas for solo hiking and mountain climbing. I do this alone because the solitude is a big part of the experience for me. I do let people know where I'm going though and I have a satellite text/GPS device (a Garmin Mini) that allows them to track my location. Even if I'm just going on a day trip, I always carry enough to remain out in the bush for a day or two.

I go solo in my 4Runner, always! Being and exploring alone is a big draw for me - TOTAL freedom in sweet solitude, self-reliance, complete independence. I have satellite nav/comms with worldwide SAR account, apps and maps, and full self-recovery (winch, TRED Pros, bottle and hi-lift jack, all straps/shackles, shovel, etc), with redundancy. I do my research and only take calculated risks. Have I gotten stuck? Yes. Did I get myself out? Damn right. Happy to be the exception to that “first rule”... :)

Most people pulling a Jeep behind their Class A do it because they are one of the few rigs that can be flat towed, plus they are easy to park and get around town. Very few even see a dirt road.

    • @dalewatkins9889
      @dalewatkins9889 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

True enough....as we flat tow our FWD Honda CRV, but really....I'd prefer a Jeep, but it's tough talking the wife into it! I had one as a company vehicle a few years back, and it saw a fair bit of time in the shop, and for their expense, she just can't see the wisdom of owning one for that reason. But, I loved driving it of course. :)

Awesome job driving the Rubi Trish, they are a nice truck and you did great. A common reason people tow Jeeps is they can flat tow with the transfer case in neutral and they can be a relatively light vehicle to tow. You can hook up a set of lights in the existing fixtures for brakes etc. and not need to do much to the tow vehicle, but you really should do a brake adapter at least so the tow vehicle brakes work also. You can get a front camera and set it low so you can see on the monitor when you cannot see over the front. I hope you guys are having a lot of fun and testing the Rubi out as much as you can. Be Safe!

Great video guys!!!! Thank you. We are long time watchers of the KYD channel and newer (2018) subscribers. As a part of the Jeep community, we are wanting the ability to become RV'ers. When we purchase a trailer this year (fall) we will use many tips and techniques you have taught us. This video is fantastic to be able to teach new off-roaders, also using your motto, "to get out there - if this is a daydream". Like RV'ing, you don't have to have $30K in upgrades for your rig, just some planning and a cup of knowledge! The examples in this video area great.
We are not, "Crawlers" but more of moderate- aggressive "Trailers." In So. Cal, the trails are vast and range from moderate to big time. We typically pick out a medium trail while on vacation "All trails" is a great app/subscription.
Cables break and become widow makers, so safety first! Also, we like to run our rig at 17 psi if necessary (local mountains have a lot of rocks, but are not terribly difficult) .... Highway runs at 34 psi on 33" - Falken A/T3's with 3" lift. We have a 17' Wrangler Unlimited JK with tow package.
Tip for picking a line (Highly overlooked): Looking for the most efficient path with minimal/no damage to your rig and passengers/cargo.... getting out to judge a "perfect line," is always advised. You have an investment and you want to keep it safe. If climbing over crevasses, advice will be to straddle both sides (Know your rig/math). If you cannot straddle, protect your differential! If the hole is too massive, try skirting around it (when possible). Steep hills: vehicle should be North/South. If you are moving East/West you may encounter a roll over. Pick lines that keep your tires high,. Again you will not need an excessive lift or over aggressive rubber. Placement "high" avoids bottoming out for "temporary" ground clearance. But always, when in doubt, get out and look (or use a spotter). Rules passed along to me: "Go as slow as possible, fast as necessary." AAA cannot always come to your rescue. Make sure you always have safety equipment on board, include a recovery kit, 1st aid kit, fire extinguisher and a radio. Cell phones may be limited in certain areas. Anyway, just tips from a long time Jeeper who's learned the hard way and the right way (at times) :).

Thanks for the video...some good info. I purchased a 2017 JKU Rubicon a few months ago. It's already had a lot of work done to it.... stubby bumpers, Rock Krawler lift, aftermarket steering, drive shafts, regeared to 4.88 and running 37's on beadlocks. I installed a winch already. I drove it from Texas to Colorado and played in the snow a bit. I'm looking forward to trying it out at some of the dedicated off road parks. So basically I'm new to jeeps, even though I've had 4x4 trucks before. I wanted something more off road capable, and after watching TH-cam videos, a jeep was the obvious choice. I'm also planning on joining local jeep clubs so I'll have people to hang out with, and also opportunity to learn along the way.

Great job driving there Trish. One word of advise while off roading do not have you thumbs on the inside of the steering wheel. If you hit something with one front wheel hard enough the steering wheel will turn very quickly. If your thumb is wrapped around the steering wheel, aka inside the steering wheel the steering wheel spoke can break or jamb your thumb. This will happen to you once and you’ll never forget to watch where your thumbs are.

Thank you Jessie 21:00 if you have it use it. I am the same way with 4 wd, when I am on a dirt road I use 4 high, until 4 low is needed. Don't wait drive around in 2wd when off road and then switch 4wd on/off as the obstacles warrant the need. Just use 4wd to start out with and enjoy the ease at which your vehicle conquers the terrain. Trish - when trying to read the trail for the proper place to be (left, center, right) just remember that you want to keep the vehicle as level as possible at all times. That is the best way to read the trail and to know where you should be.

I miss driving my Jeep in the winter soooo much! I had to laugh at the huge smile on Trish’s face sitting behind that wheel! It is amazing the feeling you get the first time you put it in 4 wheel and climb over that snow to get where you need to go! Climbing ramp that have yet to be plowed gives you great satisfaction! Great work Trish!

Love this series, we started with the Jeep and drove it to different places to go off-road. We toyed with the idea of getting a tear drop or buying something that could tow the jeep, but just never pulled the trigger. After seeing your videos last winter, we decided to just do it and bought a class C. Last year was just a few test trips, but the adventure begins this year. Thanks for the inspiration.

I've almost had my Jeep for a year (4 Months to go) still new to everything and not having enough time(working 3 jobs) or friends interested in off-roading (drift car friends)..I stick to light dirt and mud trails with 33" All-Terrain tires. I want to get 35" but needs a 2.5" lift and wheel spacers to prevent rubbing. Still confused and scared as well as clueless but I'm learning slowly.
Glad to be a part of tge Jeep community..if I can say that 😁

Lots of good advice and instruction. Many folks get a Jeep or other four wheel-vehicle and think, "I can go anywhere, I won't get stuck." That's a great big WRONG. Four-wheeling with that attitude will get you stuck, guaranteed. Wife and I have been "wheeling" since 1995 all over the country. From mud in Louisiana to Utah slick rock (btw, I hate mud), deep snow in Colorado and urban traffic and all the crazies. Go and have fun, but be careful. That's not my real picture, I'm a lot more grumpy.

I love this video. I really learned alot, especially the sway bar. I just a bought my first Jeep Rubicon but it's not new, it's a used one and it's a 2010 JKU Rubicon stick shift. I am still learning about it and your video really helped me. Now I know when to use the sway bar disconnect and also the tire psi level. Really interesting. I'm from island of Palau. We don't have big rocks like in the states, it's mostly forest and mud. I've been searching in You Tube for videos like yours to help me gain knowledge on the features of the Jeep and when to use them. Please keep them coming. Thank you.

However there are many females in the RV world that are concerned about driving either an off road vehicle, towing RV or driving a motorhome. Thank you for showing that even (fun size) females can drive all the vehicles.

Words of wisdom my Dad passed down to me that I passed down to both of my kids........."Drive as far as you can in 2 wheel drive, when you get stuck, put it in 4 wheel drive to get out and then don't go further". Doesn't cover all situations but I have only been pulled out once and I've done "heavy" four by four stuff as a hunter and off road enthusiast. By the way, that mentality will also keep you from breaking things. :) :) :) .

Another thing to remember is airing down does cause more grip, but also can cause you to brake axle shafts, especially if they're stock, being easy on that skinny pedal will help. The balance of not finding and finding the next weakest link in the 4x4 world. Glad you guys are getting out there and seeing awesome sights!

And it looks like you earned some "Arizona Pinstripes" to wear as a badge of honor. Those surface imperfections might toy with Marc's fastidious instinct for a perfect finish, but that is what informs other offroaders you are not driving a garage queen. And I must say this episode has reminded me of many fond memories of Winter nighttime 4xing. Something magical about only seeing the tunnel of light thrown by powerful lights. Very peaceful and relaxing. Thanks for the reminder. I must get back out there.

"4x4 Basics" Sway bar disconnect, Lockers, Winches. You just mentioned thousands of dollars in equipment that are not basic to 4 wheeling. I'm older and old school, I get the tech and the newest thing but I spent many years on the back trails in Colorado in a 48 CJ2 ( I still have it) when the hardships made memories.

We bought one last summer. A 2017 4 door. Not a Rubicon edition thou. That's okay as we don't plan on doing any hardcore off-roading. We're both in our 50's and the kids are out on their own now. We saved our money and now it's time for a fun vehicle to drive vehicle. We don't regret it for one minute. We plan to tow it behind our truck camper this summer.
