I find all jobs want maximum output from employees and benefit through revenue attainment, while simultaneously paying or compensating minimally the employees. I do not know of a single employer that would pay me double wages for the work I do, even in instances where I benefit them through maximum revenue attainment. For this reason, among many others, employers have revolving doors.

I just don't get why people get upset... If you are a contractor and there's not an exclusivity agreement or something in your contract, you're giving you 100% and having great performance, why would your boss be upset?

I feel like it’d be because they felt betrayed or their trust was broken or even they are insecure or jealous that your attention and focus is with another company? Or maybe that their cushy manager job is now at risk because the one breathing down ur bosses neck wouldn’t approve. Something along those lines
The real open minded would have a results only work environment mentality ie as long as you get the job done and everyone wins they’re happy. Bonus points if they actually cared about whether or not your mental & physical health is in good shape

I worked in the office for many years then remotely for the same company when Covid hit. The targets were already sky high but once we started to work remotely they were then raised. In the end we were all stressed and working through lunches as they got even more target focussed and continued to increase them to unrealistic levels and make threats of performance plans if we failed to reach them. I won't be working for that company again. Sadly I have never worked for a company that didn't expect the full 37-40 hours they were paying me for. Hens teeth spring to mind.

Probably their way of doing layoffs is without being responsible for unemployment?
