    Did you seal the cracks with caulking of some kind? You grinded the paint from boom and did not close the seam with weld, rain water will start rusting there and never drys.

    Are you using the petal on the left to control the thumb?

      Pedal*

      Yes! That’s the control for the aux on the boom

      @@StanwoodStudios awesome I have a vio27-3 and wanted to put a thumb on it I didnt know what that pedal was for but now I do haha thank you so much and awesome video

    Did you ever adjust the relief pressure on the auxiliary line? Not sure if you mentioned it in the video or not.

    • @StanwoodStudios
      @StanwoodStudios  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes we set it to a safe limit so it can’t overpower the bucket! I forget the exact pressure.

      @@StanwoodStudios Thanks. Do you remember where the adjustment is exactly? I have a Vio17 which I believe is pretty much the same machine. I'm plumbing my thumb tomorrow and would like to adjust it as well. It's kind of difficult to find the right hoses and where they enter the valve body.

      You’ll definitely have to refer to the user manual to find the correct relief

      Hi, Did you ever figure out where the relief valve was on the VIO-17? I have the same and can't see how to get to the valves inside. Thank you@@Sugarkryptonite

      @@prolificgarden4166I did. From the factory Vio17 doesn't have an adjustable relief for the auxiliary. You need to add an external relief, or run it like a cowboy like I do with no relief.

    Wire Welder FTW! And for those future comments that might ask "Why not stick weld it?"....if you look closely at the welds on various excavators, it's all Fluxcore and mig 😜

      It’s still connected ! Haha

      My son is a professional welder and he strengthened my trailer using his onsite gasless MIG on my 3 phase generator using a 240v tap off one of the phases (which is 4500w potentially). Let me tell you the welds are perfect.

    Does the have excavator have auxiliary hydraulics if it doesn’t the thumb
    is pretty useless don’t you think

    • @StanwoodStudios
      @StanwoodStudios  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure what this comment means, the excavator has aux hydraulics, the thumb can be seen working in this video.

  • @ThePaulv12

    The thumb pivoting around the bucket pin is called a Progressive Link thumb.

  • @tuju-
    @tuju- ปีที่แล้ว

    That’s too big for that machine class. It’s not about dimensions but it adds weight to that boom that hinders all the time and half of it you could have lived without.

    • @StanwoodStudios
      @StanwoodStudios  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do regret not going with a pin on thumb to save the weight. The thumb has been super useful and I am glad I installed it!

      @@StanwoodStudios I'm confused. How would that work since you do not have factory mounts for a hydraulic thumb? I'm in the same situation which is why I'm asking. Thanks for the video!

    • @StanwoodStudios
      @StanwoodStudios  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A pin on shares the bucket pivot pin! Simply get a longer pin to accommodate both. Having the bucket pivot on the same pin as the thumb allows for lighter weight and better usability in more positions. I guess the only benefit of the weld on is it opens a tad wider in some circumstances.

    • @StanwoodStudios
      @StanwoodStudios  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You still have to weld ears on the boom for thumb cylinder for the pin on thumb.
