Just ordered one for a backhoe. When you say you bent it a couple of times, I assume you were able to bend it back and what part bent (guessing the legs on the piece welded to the stick)?
I bought one from ebay. Cost about 170.00. It was a bolt on. I did weld it on. I put on sub compact tractor backhoe. When I need it it's there. It's a lot heavier than that one
Dave, is it still easy to dig with the thumb extended? I want to use a thumb for clearing trails and will need to bench the trails into side hills. Or, do you need to hop off to pull the thumb back to dig. I do have hydraulic hoses at the end of the boom so that’s an option but I’d rather stay simple.
I’m wanting to convert mine to hydraulic, anyone else done this yet I’m sure it can be done with a few mods or bushings to the weld channel and getting the cylinder size , throw and stops just right . I just don’t care for the restrictions if you need to reach and have it plowing into undisturbed soil having the relief of the cylinder & thumb to be less destructive picking and placing with out dropping or crushing the thumb floats like a hydraulic spring of sort. Haven’t found a conversation of this type yet .
Saw you welded across the dipper stick. Most people don't recommend that because it can weaken and cause the dipper stick to break. How's it holding up?
I guess Im asking the wrong place but does anyone know a trick to get back into an instagram account?? I was stupid lost the login password. I love any assistance you can give me.
@Enrique Charles thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and im trying it out atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
You helped me decide. For the limited use I will require from this, it's a no-brainer. THX

Great project!!!
Hi there what is the size of your bucket? Was considering picking one of them up

It’s not bad to dig with just move closer to where your digging, I have a video of it in action th-cam.com/video/WYCifk6zZE4/w-d-xo.html

NICE TOP WELD! 150.00 CANT BEAT THAT But that said you could have made it :)
Man! Don't weld with piston out! You can ruin chrome coating 💥
I gave you a thumbs up for your thumb . lol

Pretty good, I’ve bent the thumb a few times doing things I shouldn’t have been, but it hasn’t broke
@@TheMechanicDave hey not bad for an ebay thumb. I looked at that one as well. I ended up going with a gentec one. I'm gonna weld it on this weekend.
Nice
Thumbs are great and makes the excavator much more useful! What equipment are you welding with (Welder/electrodes) That top weld looked great!

@Enrique Charles it worked and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thank you so much, you saved my ass !
Wish we could get these in the UK
Cheapest is about £850
Good lord just make one. Or make 50 and sell them.
Its been a year. Still on there any regrets over a hydraulic one.
Not really it’s cheap and does the job
What size is that? 18”?
24”
It is a manual thumb. Not a mechanical thumb. There is no mechanical device that operates the thumb. 😀
You had the hole for a cylinder.. and it's a bobcat so probably already plumbed for hydraulic thumb why didn't u go that route?
That machine isn’t worth a hydronic thumb
@@TheMechanicDave You need to be more appreciative of that excavator, I would kill for a machine like that!
Hard to appreciate something that’s always broken
@@TheMechanicDave how many hours on it? I am looking for a Yanmar
Current cost on Bobcat brand thumb is $1,800 and 16 week back order. Hoses and fittings may be extra but 18 was the number they gave me as of 2-5-23.
Once you have a thumb you cant go back.
Once you have two you are really cooking with gas 😉
