That's fantastic! I never thought about a fixed thumb. I've only seen hydraulicly operated ones. I have a big Volvo backhoe (BL60B). I wonder if I could build something like that for it.
interesting build! Are you making different length support arm so you can adjust the angle of the thumb? Also at 16:28 the thumb almost touches your hydraulics. Is there enough room with the spacers to completely bring in the bucket? Thanks for the video!
The thumb doesn't touch the hydraulics in anyway but it does look like it in video, and yes there is enough room to fully curl the bucket, watch my video of the finished excavator and you can see it do more work
I was thinking of making a longer or shorter bar or adding a higher and lower mount for the bar but I really like the position the thumb is already at so I'll probably just leave it
i Did some upgrades to the thumb including a extra angle iron brace in the center to really stiffen the thumb and I installed different pin holders you can see this in my newer videos so be sure to check out my other vids-thanks y’all!
Buy a plasma cutter well worth the investment.. Ask me how I know😅...I'm looking to make a thumb for my mini Excavator..a 2007..takeuchi tb016. I picked up at auction for 4,000$, with only 2,600 hrs on it...I painted it.changed all fluids...it's a really nice machine....
@TheHomePros6221 I'm tinkering with a few things I can make better on it now,,, but yup. I think I gotta pretty good deal. She ain't new, with only 2,600 hrs . I figure do the maintenance now a few pins , bushings , tighten things back up ..should keep it going trouble free for a few years.
@@TheHomePros6221 Your mini is a Rad little machine! I’m really impressed with the thumb, I saw one of your videos digging out smaller trees, I was surprised that it lifted the longer log no problem. You did a nice job fixing it up, I plan to paint mine this Spring. I didn’t want to mention the price of my excavator in my video, but I paid $11,500. Even with half the cost on the final drive I still feel fine about the price. You got a good machine and a good deal too 👍
Thank you so much yeah this little machine is actually really powerful it surprises me all the time I think I paid a little bit too much for it but it does what I need it to do for now I really wish I could've found the same machine that you have for that price but they were really hard to find around my area for anything under $20,000
Mike do do you have a email we’re I can contact you and ask you something? If you don’t want to put it out mine is Alberici.darrell@gmail.com thanks for the sub

You are a very good welder, the thumb looks awsome. Also love the broom-stick what u have to collect metal shaveings. that is a great idea.

Hi! What welder/stick are you using?
a Lincoln mig 140 and a Lincoln stick
you should wrap your magnet with paper towels, so much easier ti clean off the metal chips

Okay, hear me out. I think you need to paint evil eyes on the bucket, and bloody teeth on the thumb. 50% efficiency improvement, guaranteed.
Hahah 👍

Thanks man!! Rite now Im very sick from covid related problems but I will be making a bunch once I’m well thanks a bunch
