  • Going to the Qualifier, here is a quick video of our 445 point run.
    UPDATE 3: We won the So-Cal Championships and are now going to the Worlds. We need to raise a lot of money so, can you help us? Every dollar counts! www.gofundme.c...
    UPDATE: At the qualifier we scored 300 points. Lots of work to do before the So-Cal Championship!! :)
    UPDATE2: Thanks to team SWARM for pointing out that we can't score the rain on top of the other two waters. So we are at 435 until we fix that!

      The rules: "M04 - RAIN Make at least one Rain come out of the Rain Cloud. " I don't see anything about touching the mat.

      kelly7873 - when they put the rain the box target it has to be touching the mat am I right?

    • @kelly7873
      @kelly7873 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mindstorms Man - SWARM the rules say touching the mat but they also say "Water
      may be touching the target, and/or other water," I would say stacking a rain water on a big water is ok. Up to the Ref?

      In our area, there is a qualifier tournament, a regional championship (Southern California) and then the World Festival. Several teams advance from the qualifier to the regional, but only the single Champions Award winner advances to the World Festival from there. How does it work in your area?

    • @michaelfelise9863
      @michaelfelise9863 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same works here, I am in Utah. We have a qualifier, then state, then either nationals or world. We have a second award that goes to nationals. I have been on 2 different teams and both went to nationals. This year, however, the team that always got first isn't participating so we have a good chance. We are planning on posting our robot runs on youtube so once we get everything done, I could send you a link :D

      UPDATE : We didn't make it to world festival but we made it to Legoland. Also a quick tip for the water collection, try and use the rubber pieces to keep the grip on the two big waters.

    Are those 2 car in the start the pull back motors? R06 - NON-ELECTRIC ELEMENTS
    - Use as many non-electric LEGO-made elements as you like,
    from any set.
    Except:
    Factory-made wind-up/pull-back “motors” are not allowed

      We powered the cars with lego rubber bands that are wound around an axle. When the robot leaves base, it releases them by getting out of the way.

    Hi, I'm really amazed that you can get this done in such a short period of time. I was wondering as you brace the slingshot like shown in the video, does the slingshot have to be in direct contact with the mat like the water well? Thanks

    • @ftcteamcrashtest3729
      @ftcteamcrashtest3729  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      We think the rules say that the slingshot does not need to be in direct contact with the mat. It can be in a container above the mat as long as it is over the target area. Thanks!

      Thanks for your quick response! How reliable is your robot? So if you let it run 10 times, how often does it get the 445 points?

    • @ftcteamcrashtest3729
      @ftcteamcrashtest3729  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right now, perfect runs are about 1 in 10. 300 was our high score at our qualifier tournament. But we track consistency numbers for every mission and are focused on making things more consistent now. Our advice to teams is to definitely do as much consistency testing as you can, and when you see something go wrong, stop, figure out what went wrong, and ask "is there anything we can do to make sure that can never happen again?"

    • @jiw8773
      @jiw8773 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @ftcteamcrashtest3729
      @ftcteamcrashtest3729  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      We don't put motors on our attachments but we have 4 on the robot, two medium and two large. We use the two mediums to control our attachments. For more, go to our video on our TH-cam channel that introduces our attachment system. Thanks!

    You can't use your hands to pick up the robot. That's a penalty. :( Try programming the robot to go back to base by itself.

    • @brianwilliam
      @brianwilliam 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The rules only make it a 5 point penalty, but I think it should be a much worse penalty when the team intentionally abuses the penalty rule. Elsewhere in the rules, it says you can't deliberately try to break a model to achieve the mission. There should be a similar rule for picking it up because the robot accidentally crashed and is stuck vs. picking it up on purpose because it's your strategy.

    • @ftcteamcrashtest3729
      @ftcteamcrashtest3729  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The touch penalty is part of our current game strategy and computed in the points. If we can get down to 3 runs instead of 4, maybe we won't need it. The penalty does seem a little low this year. We saw a team at a qualifier take 5 touch penalties on purpose and score pretty well!

    • @brianwilliam
      @brianwilliam 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      FLL Team Water Works Yes, and I didn't mean to suggest you were doing anything wrong. As long as the rules are the way they are, it's entirely legitimate to use it as a strategy!

    • @x-platform7460
      @x-platform7460 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ctrl-Z (champions of St. Louis world festival) took a touch penalty last year, so they could do more missions in the time given, by saving time going to base.

    Damn that’s incredible.... Your programming was very neat even at 2x speed your transitions seemed smooth and well coordinated. Your cars were epic! I remember spending ages last year trying to make one for the shark, but nothing was as good as that. Mind if I ask how you did it?

    • @ftcteamcrashtest3729
      @ftcteamcrashtest3729  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. We have used two different designs for the autonomous missions. The first one we made was for the shark in Animal Allies and we used a pulley with a weight to pull the car along at a steady slow speed so the shark wouldn't fall over. This year, for the fountain and the flow, we decided to use rubber bands which wrap around the axle of the two back tires. We used rubber bands this time because we needed the cars to crash into the models to release or trigger the mechanism.

    Thanks for the video Great job! But how do you get your robot to move to locations so accurately? The only way we have been able to do missions consistently is to have the robot follow a wall with wheels touching the wall at all times. Otherwise the robot never gets to the same exact location. Especially when you do any type of turn it never makes the exact angle turn We only do missions along the walls never could do a mission in the center of the table We built a simple robot to test this like the rover bot tried the gyro, but still it either does not go exactly straight That is all we are attempting to do now is try to figure out how to go 2 feet turn 90 degrees and move forward another foot it comes close to hitting the same spot but that's not good enough hen your trying to complete a mission. Any help on this topic would be appreciated Thxs again

    • @ftcteamcrashtest3729
      @ftcteamcrashtest3729  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      First of all we have built our robot for accuracy by making stable and strong bonds, using hard tires, and supporting the wheel axels on both sides firmly. Even with all that we still have to constantly realign our position. We do this by squaring on lines, walls, and mechanical alinement on mission models. For example, on our second run, we use mechanical alignment by hooking our robot around the flower. In this mission we realign ourselves 11 times in the 38 seconds it lasts. Even with all of this our robot still drifts and doesn't go straight. This is why we realign ourselves so many times because the Ev3 robots aren't that accurate. Check out our TH-cam channel and you will find a video on how our robot is constructed and other videos that show exactly how we navigate around this years field mat. If any of your questions were not answered please ask again.
      And don't give up! Thx

  • @shahadalharthi2183

    How much box did you use other than the basic box to install the robot and do you have a model to install the robot

    • @ftcteamcrashtest3729
      @ftcteamcrashtest3729  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Our robot uses some tires that are not part of the educational kit and 4 light sensors. Everything else is in the basic kit. We don't have a model currently but we hope to create and publish one. If you want to know more about our robot, check out the video about it on our youtube channel.

    How does the water collection work? I mean, it's amazing how it does it, but I just wondered how the robot can hold two water and a rain, but drop it. Is there anything below the water?

    • @ftcteamcrashtest3729
      @ftcteamcrashtest3729  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you look close, you might see some small beams that hold the water up until they swing out of the way. They are geared together with the door so it all operates at once. It took us a long time to get this to work!

  • @thatisdepressing

    • @ftcteamcrashtest3729

      Yes we did. We use this as a strategic touch to save time to do more missions.

  • @loveablekat2547
    @loveablekat2547 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    this is dumb, there is only 315 points not 435, and the tripod was not fully placed in, did you change the score??????????

    • @thatisdepressing
      @thatisdepressing 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sherry Xu I take it you watched Hal's video? If you did, the reason they had "315 points max" is because that's the amout of points their robot alone can get if it did every mission perfectly. The max number of points these missions can total up to at all is 535.

    • @preyassinha0414
      @preyassinha0414 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The tripod does not need to be completely in the target, they just get partial score if some of it is. There is around a 500 max this year....

    • @ilya8914
      @ilya8914 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I assume they just got a partial for the tri-pod to save time

    • @ftcteamcrashtest3729
      @ftcteamcrashtest3729  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, and also we didn't want to risk pushing the manhole cover out of the target!
