Shogun: Anjin-San With Friar Domingo In Osaka Castle Prison - Longer Scene

Shogun: Anjin-San (Richard Chamberlain) has befriended Franciscan Christian Monk, Friar Domingo (Michael Hordern), in Osaka Castle Prison. Domingo tells Anjin-San that prison, to the Japanese, is simply a holding place until they decided a man’s sentence, and that sentence is always death. Only the guilty come to Osaka Prison. It is a “resting place between the hell of earth, and the glory of everlasting life.”
Shogun, The Millions-Of-Copies Sold Novel, was written by James Clavell. The Masterpiece Television Mini Series was Produced by NBC and Paramount Studios, Directed by Jerry London, Screenplay by Eric Bercovici, Director Of Photography Andrew Laszlo, Production Executive Frank Cardea, with Production Designer Joseph Jennings. Shogun starred: Richard Chamberlain (as Pilot-Major John Blackthorne), Toshiro Mifune (as Lord Yoshi Toranaga; Lord Of The Kwanto; Lord Of The Eight Provinces; Chief General Of The Armies Of The East; Head Of The Clan Of Yoshi; President Of The Council Of Regents; Shogun), Yoko Shimada (as The Lady Toda Buntaro Mariko), Frankie Sakai (as Lord Kashigi Yabu), Alan Badel (as Jesuit Priest, The Father Visitor Dell’Aqua), Michael Hordern (as Friar Domingo), Damien Thomas (as Jesuit Priest, Father Martin Alvito), John Rhys-Davies (Portuguese Pilot Vasco Rodrigues), Vladek Sheybal (as Portuguese Captain Ferriera), George Innes (as Ship Hand Vinck), Leon Lissek (as Portuguese Jesuit Father Sebastio), Yuki Meguro (as Samurai Warrior, Kashigi Omi), Hideo Takamatsu (as Lord Toda Buntaro), Hiromi Senno (as Consort Usagi Fujiko), and Nobuo Kaneko (as Lord Ishido Kazunari). Many people were involved in the making of this classic masterpiece. There was an A-List Cast, an A-List Director, an A-List Musical Score from Maurice Jarre, and A-List production quality with amazing sets and intricate costumes, detailed for that time era. Narration by the famous and powerful voice of Orson Welles.

Disappointed the 2024 version didn’t cover the important conversation here about the Japanese people and way of life. As well as the Portuguese Spanish business in Japan.

This important part of the story was barely covered in the rather poor 2024 remake. In fact, I can't think of anything positive to say about the remake when it comes to storytelling, casting, direction, etc. I'll stick to the 1980 miniseries.

I'm glad more people are waking up to the fact that this new 2024 version is simply not good. Initially I thought maybe I was judging it too harshly and so I decided to watch a few clips of the 2024 version it in the hopes that I could begin to like it, but sadly I didn't. There is nothing good about this new version and the people who initially thought it was good are now starting to see the cracks. The heart of soul of Shogun is lost on this 2024 top-heavy CGI mess they pass for a remake. 🤢🤮I am so glad that we have the 1980s version to fall back on. How anyone could like the 2024 version of 'Shogun' is beyond me.

​@@histman3133Shock horror I know but people can and do enjoy things differently. For what it was, it was incredible and has opened up the story for a whole new generation to appreciate and enjoy.
What were people expecting with the 2024 version? It never claimed to be a faithful retelling of the original. It's an adaptation. Be glad they didn't fully butcher this like they did to Rings of Power, Game Of Thrones, Toms Story etc.

@@ashscheesecakes2064 Yes, the 2024 series is of course another adaptation, but it's a very weak one with a lot of poor writing, dreadful pacing and mostly weak casting.
